Dont want to cause some big debate but is anyone else on here getting sick to the back teeth of having to watch their p's and q's through fear of offending every tom, dick and harry.

OP posts:
noddyholder · 05/04/2013 11:26

Its umbrage

lougle · 05/04/2013 11:26

But do you do them the hard way now, TheBigJessie? That's the question Smile

TSH - that was a terrible response. I hope you regret it.

TheBigJessie · 05/04/2013 11:28

You called PTSD soft, diluted language just then, and you have been agreeing with George Carlin's point this whole time. Don't dodge the point.

Lougle

Reluctantly!

Simontowers1 · 05/04/2013 11:29

Noddyholder - what do you mean by stooping low? Explain?

EldritchCleavage · 05/04/2013 11:30

What is 'soft' about the term post traumatic stress disorder?

'Trauma' is not exactly fluffy, and 'disorder' is a pretty strong word. It's not catchy or short, but I don't see why it is soft.

Or is 'soft' being used as a euphemism for 'too complicated'?

lougle · 05/04/2013 11:30

I'm quite stunned, TSH. Really.

An IQ of 152? You could've fooled me.

Attacking people's kids is a bit low

Simontowers1 · 05/04/2013 11:32

Fanjo - she is an intelligent young lady. I'm sure she can defend herself like everybody else on here. Stop trying to fight her battles FFs.

noddyholder · 05/04/2013 11:33

AN IQ of 152? You could've fooled me. This is stooping low. To question the integrity of someone who has genuine life experience of disability and all that involves. Hope this will suffice Simon Smile

sudaname · 05/04/2013 11:33

I meant yours @ 10:03 Simon sorry, didn't realise you had posted since.

But on the subject of your last post people like my DGD do get used to a certain degree to being referred to by their disability rather than person first and to a degree grow a thick skin about it and pick their battles. Otherwise they just add another problem to their already significant ones l suppose. But l do know that what she craves more than anything in life is just to be 'normal' , be like her peers , not to be treated favourably, less favourably, in short just to 'fit in'. So l think maybe that's why she hates being referred to as ill first, one of the children second because her first wish is to be 'just one of the gang' and equally she would love not to have the condition she has. So to put that blasted condition first in her description is a double whammy to her l suppose.

I haven't second guessed her on all this either, she is a young teen now and we have had a few in depth conversations about this.a

Sunnywithshowers · 05/04/2013 11:33

How lovely Harpy.

You're free to use whatever language you like. Just as other people are free to judge you as racist / disablist / arsehole / whatever according to the language you use.

YouTheCat · 05/04/2013 11:33

Low blow! Shock

She can take it though, Shrieking. I get the impression DawnDonna's dd takes rather a lot of crap from people like you. And she always conducts herself with utter decorum and dignity, which is more than can be said for someone who tries to belittle a 16 year old.

BruthasTortoise · 05/04/2013 11:34

Harpy I didn't ask you, specifically, to give me an example of words you would like use. The copy and paste you used wasn't from one of my posts.

Re. Shell shock. Carlin (and you if you agree with him) argues that "rebranding" shell shock as PTSD has watered down the impact. I would argue the exact opposite. By giving shell shock a "legitimate" medical name it should force governments to provide long term care for their veterans rather than simply removing them from the war zone and saying "You'll be ok now." Shell shock affected many WW1 veterans for years after the events and that was not recognised. At least the ones that weren't shot for suffering from a medical condition which was trivialised as "shell shock"...

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 05/04/2013 11:36

Simon..I shall say what I like.

Stop trying to stir the shite FFS Wink

Lottashakingoinon · 05/04/2013 11:36

An IQ of 152? You could've fooled me.

Well I am guessing that would not be hard, but how on earth would you think this was odd when her post was eloquent, controlled, witty and more.

Or are you just being unpleasant for the sake of it Harpy

YouTheCat · 05/04/2013 11:37

bangs head on table

ginslinger · 05/04/2013 11:37

Has anyone managed to find something they can't say yet? Or are they just sticking to being rude?

Lottashakingoinon · 05/04/2013 11:39

Tempted though I am to report Harpy's latest for sheer nastiness I would rather see it stand as an excellent example of the sort of bilgewater that comes out when people don't censor themselves.

Simontowers1 · 05/04/2013 11:39

Not really noddy. She was questioning her intelligence not her integrity which is pretty par for the course for these boards. Again, why is pulled for stooping low?

Dawndonna · 05/04/2013 11:39

lol. I can take it. I'm used to so called people like you, you'd be lovely if you met me, kind, considerate etc. That's because you're too scared to do otherwise in a public place. An anonymous forum however, vent your spleen, it makes you look great.
As for my IQ. I couldn't possibly fool you, I haven't met you, if you don't want to take my word for it, that to is understandable, my place at university is guaranteed, already. That in itself says something. As does the incredibly articulate and adult argument of 'If she can dish it out, she can take it'. I'm sixteen ffs and wanted to stand up for myself. I'm not upset, I am laughing, but oh for heaven's sake, find yourself a valid argument with an adult, will you.
I'm signing off now, I've said more than once on this place that the internet brings bullying into your sitting room, and you are proof of that.
Bye.

TheBigJessie · 05/04/2013 11:39

There is a great deal of difference between what she said to you, and your response, which dodged all substance in her post, and concentrated on doubting her intelligence.

As I am a respectful person, I am sure that you are intelligent to recognise that. You were simply trying to be hurtful for the sake of it.
