To think its not okay for dh to laugh at me

TrippingTheLifeFantastic · 29/03/2013 03:19

So DH and I were messing around a little while ago and he made out that he was going to throw the cat at me. I was lying on the sofa and he was standing in front of me. I laughed and he threw the cat at me! I put my hand up and the cat has given me three long scratches on my palm.

I laughed initially because it didn't hurt right away. Within a minute or two it started bleeding and really hurt. I told DH it really hurt and he kept laughing. I got pissed off and he told me I was being a drama queen and got pissed off at me!

I know I laughed right after he did it, but AIBU to be pissed that he kept laughing at me even after I said it hurt?

From clarifications it doesn't sound so bad but, as OP says he "threw" the cat on to her in the original post (yep it's there, in black and white) it's not unreasonable to infer that he then threw the cat on to her.

Nonetheless, people do throw cats, and cruelty to animals is an indicator of domestic violence.

Inertia · 29/03/2013 13:44

He is probably pissed off at you because he has since realised that he did a very stupid thing, and it's easier to get stroppy with you for over-reacting than to admit to (and apologise for ) his own stupidity. He shouldn't have laughed ; he shouldn't have thrown / dropped / whatever the cat in the first place, but clearly he's shown very poor judgement over the whole thing.

YWBU if you thought cat throwing was funny before you bled - but then on the other hand inappropriate laughter can be a common response to a shock / surprise .

RandallPinkFloyd · 29/03/2013 13:45

Oh for crying out loud.

The DH was a twat and the OP's first post was a bit melodramatic.

There's no need to compete over how insulting you can be.

OP, like others have said just keep an eye on your hand as cat scratches are easily infected. Bet it stings like a bitch too. Hope he's a bit more contrite now.

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 29/03/2013 15:17

I don't care how long you've been here or how many posters "know" you - both you and your DH sound idiotic tbh.

TrippingTheLifeFantastic · 29/03/2013 23:15

I have thought a lot about this post today and I completely own that it was a stupid thing to do, for both DH and me. We fucked up and I accept that. I still don't think there was any call for the name calling and insults but I will accept that in this case iabu.

OP posts:
aldiwhore · 29/03/2013 23:25

I won't call you a name, and I love cats.

But you were lying on the sofa.
I assume he didn't THROW the cat AT you, rather chucked it onto you (still stupid but a subtle difference between launching a cat overarm at a person who's standing yes?)

I'd be livid, because much as I love my cat, I'm allergic to it, so even if DH PLACED the cat NICELY on my lap I'd have not been particularly happy.

You were both daft. A silly time gone a step too far. Having been both the victim of a step over the daftness threshold and the perpatrator of the same in my time, meh... say sorry to the cat.

Had the cat been in any way harmed I'd be more harsh, but I don't think it's actually helpful or adds any value to the discussion to deal with if's and maybe's. (Apart from my allergy statement of course).

My cat did actually jump on my head today, and dug her claws in (obviously because she wasn't sure of my cranium as a landing pad) and to be fair, though it was a shock and did 'scritch' a little at the time, the pain came after a minute or so... I think there's possibily a timeline here that only you know? (Like cat-thunk, ow, stupid twat, REALLY fucking OW!)

TrippingTheLifeFantastic · 29/03/2013 23:44

Thank you aldiwhore. I appreciate now that posting while I was Gary was probably not the best idea. I blew everything out of proportion and, as someone upthread said, was overly melodramatic.

I know I have said it before, but the cat was absolutely fine. I have never and would never do anything to endanger either of our cats.

OP posts:
TrippingTheLifeFantastic · 29/03/2013 23:45

That should be "posting when I am angry". I have no idea who Gary is. Autocorrect fail.

OP posts:
anonymosity · 29/03/2013 23:51

I didn't read the insulting pages (too many pages to wade thru) but I wanted to say based on your original scenario, YANBU. Sounds painful. And I was hoping "Gary" was some euphemism for pissed or something.

EarlyInTheMorning · 30/03/2013 08:20

Who is 'Gary'?

Pagwatch · 30/03/2013 08:23

Gary is the cat.

EarlyInTheMorning · 30/03/2013 08:24

Poor Gary

RandallPinkFloyd · 30/03/2013 08:28

Arf at Gary being your slightly drama llama alter-ego! Grin

seeker · 30/03/2013 08:40

So nobody has ever "poured" a cat onto somebody? Or dropped a cat onto somebody's lap?

Ah. Blush

zippey · 30/03/2013 09:28

Life would be so much less fun if you didnt laugh at yourself or if people didnt lauugh at you sometimes.

b4bunnies · 30/03/2013 09:28

what a stupid thing to do.
and how foolish of you to go along with it.
poor gary lucked out living with you two.
why not rehome the cat, and leave the husband now, to save heartache later?

CSIJanner · 30/03/2013 09:42

Tripping - it would be funny if you did change the cats name to Gary now.

HWBU for throwing/dropping/chucking the cat and also for laughing instead of checking you were okay.

Flippinada - cats do remember! A friend stayed and thought it funny to fart on my old cats head. I wasn't impressed. Neither was the cat hence the large smelly shit in the slippers and wee on the underwear.

OP - be prepared for your cat to run away from your DH for a little while as even though he dropped the cat, it would have been scared. But all will right itself in a week or so xx

determinedma · 30/03/2013 09:42

Well I understood it as he was standing, she was lying down and he dropped the cat onto her.daft yes, but hardly the crime of the century.

TrippingTheLifeFantastic · 30/03/2013 12:25

I just knew everyone would latch on to Gary! :)

CSIJanner - the cat seems fine. He is a little bit...umm...simple so I really don't think it registered. This is the cat who will be sound asleep and will then leap up and run back and forth across the living room as fast as possible. This is the cat that wedges himself in the baby gate and then yanks back with all his might in order to open it. The cat who sees nothing wrong with curling up on my lap when I am in the loo. He's daft as a brush.

OP posts:
LividofLondon · 30/03/2013 13:56

YANBU. I'd have been upset about his apparent lack of empathy. But if it's not a habit of his then I wouldn't worry. As Inertia said, "He is probably pissed off at you because he has since realised that he did a very stupid thing, and it's easier to get stroppy with you for over-reacting than to admit to (and apologise for ) his own stupidity. He shouldn't have laughed; he shouldn't have thrown / dropped / whatever the cat in the first place, but clearly he's shown very poor judgement over the whole thing."

Viviennemary · 30/03/2013 14:03

He needs to be reported to the RSPCA.

TrippingTheLifeFantastic · 30/03/2013 14:19

He does not need to be reported to the spca. Did you read the whole thread viviennemary?

OP posts:
determinedma · 30/03/2013 14:22

Don't think the RsPCA operate in Canada.....

TrippingTheLifeFantastic · 30/03/2013 14:23

We have the SPCA but not the RSPCA.
