To think its not okay for dh to laugh at me

TrippingTheLifeFantastic · 29/03/2013 03:19

So DH and I were messing around a little while ago and he made out that he was going to throw the cat at me. I was lying on the sofa and he was standing in front of me. I laughed and he threw the cat at me! I put my hand up and the cat has given me three long scratches on my palm.

I laughed initially because it didn't hurt right away. Within a minute or two it started bleeding and really hurt. I told DH it really hurt and he kept laughing. I got pissed off and he told me I was being a drama queen and got pissed off at me!

I know I laughed right after he did it, but AIBU to be pissed that he kept laughing at me even after I said it hurt?

It doesn't matter how long the cat was stressed forBranleuse.

It was a cruel thing to do.

HintofBream · 29/03/2013 11:08

IneedThatForkOff I could not care less if you think I was 'rude' to call the OP vile, and I expect the poor cat would agree it is a very apt description.

Buzzardbird · 29/03/2013 11:11

I'd be laughing too...laughing at him picking his clothes up off the pavement covered in dirty kitty litter Hmm

flippinada · 29/03/2013 11:14

Yes countrykitten he was awful.

Just to reassure anyone who has read that my cat was ok and lived to a ripe old age.

As I said previously, it maybe OP was really distressed by this and was testing the water to see what peoples opinion was.

Cruelty to animals is just not funny.

TheBigJessie · 29/03/2013 11:32

If we had a cat, and my husband threw the cat anywhere, I would leave the bastard.

I am deadly serious about this. My husband is not perfect, and sometimes he even bloody irritates me, but he is not cruel to animals or people. Ever.

MrsRajeshKoothrappali · 29/03/2013 11:34

You need to put some Savlon and a bandage on your hand and then look into rehoming your cat.

He sounds like a very unkind and cruel man.

:(

squeakytoy · 29/03/2013 11:36

I very much doubt he hurled the cat a few feet across the room!

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 29/03/2013 11:37

Who the fuck throws cats?

catsmother · 29/03/2013 11:41

FFS - you're both a pair of ignorant twats. Oh dear, your hand got scratched - good - because it's a natural reaction for a cat to put its claws out if it was thrown - both because it would have been scared, and also to help it cling on to wherever it landed. The fact you're concerned about your pathetic DH laughing at you rather than the fact he threw a live animal serves you bloody well right. You should care about the cruelty - a cat is NOT a toy for god's sake - rather than your hurt feelings.

YouTheCat · 29/03/2013 11:49

What catsmother said. Poor bloody cat.

TrippingTheLifeFantastic · 29/03/2013 12:04

Jesus! I never expected this sort of reaction. How has everyone got the impression that he "hurled" the cat across the room. Read what I posted! I was lying on the soda and he was standing in front of me. Maybe throw was a bad choice of words - he dropped the cat on me I guess.

I am not vile, nor am I a twat or a moron. Our cats are well-loved as are our two children. I have been on MN a very long time and this has reminded me why I have been largely absent for so long. Not only does this incident make me a vile, stupid person, but apparently alcohol must have been involved too because of the time. I'm in Canada. It was 11:30 when I posted.

Wow. Thanks everyone.

countrykitten · 29/03/2013 12:09

I wondered about that as was being stupid and forgetting that people post from all over the world - you have my apologies.

I wonder why you would post on MN to inform others that your dh had 'dropped' a cat in your lap though?

foslady · 29/03/2013 12:14

Rather than getting pissed off by what people have written, re read your post

he made out that he was going to throw the cat at me.

There's a MASSIVE difference between dropping a cat 6 inches or so into a lap and throwing a cat - a throw implies that he forcefully chucked the cat, also you THROW over a distance.

zwischenzug · 29/03/2013 12:15

Even supposing anyone was to believe your revised version of events, I'm not sure why you think dropping cats on people is funny either.

TrippingTheLifeFantastic · 29/03/2013 12:16

countrykitten thank you for your apology.

The fact that he dropped a cat on me was never the issue, although it obviously was for so many other people. My issue was whether he was being an ass for laughing at me when I was hurt. I completely own the fact that I should not have laughed when he first did it. I was in the wrong there. But I didn't know what else to do. I was surprised that he did it.

It doesn't matter now. No point dragging this on when the jury has already reached their verdict.

OP posts:
TrippingTheLifeFantastic · 29/03/2013 12:18

It is not a revised story. It is exactly what I posted last night. Hmm

OP posts:
Salmotrutta · 29/03/2013 12:20

Well:

I laughed and he threw the cat at me.

That suggests throwing.

Hmm
Salmotrutta · 29/03/2013 12:21

And you stated the you laughed after the throwing of the cat - because it didnt hurt then so what on earth did you expect the response to be?

TapirBackRider · 29/03/2013 12:26

The fact that he 'dropped' the cat on you is totally the issue here, the fact that the poor bloody cat scratched you (and rightly so) is a side issue.

How in hells name do you think it's appropriate to throw, drop or otherwise move a living being like that?

Feminine · 29/03/2013 12:26

Like I said up-thread.

Some tales just don't work on here.

You should have just asked a friend IRL.

You have been here ages. :) I remember your old nickname ;-)

zippey · 29/03/2013 12:27

I do feel sorry for the cat, it would not have liked being dropped/thrown. That is not acceptable behaviour. It is cruel and abusive, and borders on bullying behaviour. Its as if your cat does not have feelings, or that you dont care about its feelings. I hope you and your husband are not as cruel to your children as you are to your pet.

Smetana · 29/03/2013 12:34

I don't suppose I'm the only one who thinks that the word "threw" is linked to the action of "throwing"

TrippingTheLifeFantastic · 29/03/2013 12:34

Oh FFS we are not cruel to our cats! How nice it is that you all live in a perfectly black and white world with no shades of grey. At no point did I say it was ok that he dropped the cat on me!

I had hoped MN had mellowed a bit - I was obviously wrong. This place has helped me through some of the darkest periods of my life and was always such a source of support. Something has changed though. You are no longer allowed to make mistakes and god help you if you post about them in AIBU.

Thank you to those who made their point without resorting to personal attacks and name calling. I may not agree with your perspectives but I respect your ability to make your point known without resorting to calling me a moron or a twat.

wwydmoney1 · 29/03/2013 12:36

Total overreaction from other posters, have none of you ever held your cat then dropped it on the sofa to put it down? It's hardly animal cruelty, he was mucking around and dropped it on the op instead.

OP yes he probably should've stopped laughing when he realised you were actually hurt.

TrippingTheLifeFantastic · 29/03/2013 12:36

Smetana - I have already said I used the wrong word, is there a reason why you can't let it go? I was on the sofa and DH was directly in front of me - hardly room to throw.
