to find it unbelievable when parents are busy texting/chatting on their mobiles and ignoring their kids at the swings when the poor things are obviously trying to get their attention! Helllooooo. you brought your child to the park to have some 'together' time didn't you?

Jesus, one thing I've learnt since joining MN is you get judged on absolutely everything!

Sometimes I have a wee look at my phone at the park. I'm sorry that I'm not watching my kids every bloody move. I might be a mum but I'm an actual person too.

You don't take your kids to the playground for "together" time. You take them to wear them out.

There are people that are glued to their phones all the time. Those people are annoying. You should supervise your child at the park. You don't have to watch and engage with them every second, but glancing up from your phone to see what they're doing is a good idea.

It makes me laugh at playgroup when there are a group of mums sitting in silence all staring at their phones. They're probably all mumsnetting about each other....Grin

*It's not just the park btw, it's the school playground, playgroups, soft play, a cafe anywhere your children could be terrorising other people while you facebook really.

I'm totally guilty of this. They are playing and I get 5 mins to myself!

If they want me to push the swing or help them climb, then I'm there, but otherwise its a quick shufti at facebook.

I used to hate taking mine to the park.

So I would read or play with my phone.

I have a theory about this!

A few years ago more or less everyone used to smoke, it gave us something to do with our hands. Nowadays nobody is allowed to smoke anywhere and we still need to do something so we play with our phones.

I am not some weird ex smoker btw, this is just a casual observation!

I hate parks they are boring. Luckily I have twins. They can look after each other whilst I MN ;)

Yeah, particularly now we're not allowed to judge anyone. That used to be a fun way to pass the time.

It's really only very small children who need you hovering interacting with them, they want to be playing with the other children there when they're a bit older.
