to find it unbelievable when parents are busy texting/chatting on their mobiles and ignoring their kids at the swings when the poor things are obviously trying to get their attention! Helllooooo. you brought your child to the park to have some 'together' time didn't you?

It's really only very small children who need you hovering interacting with them, they want to be playing with the other children there when they're a bit older.

Yeah, particularly now we're not allowed to judge anyone. That used to be a fun way to pass the time.

I have a theory about this!

A few years ago more or less everyone used to smoke, it gave us something to do with our hands. Nowadays nobody is allowed to smoke anywhere and we still need to do something so we play with our phones.

I am not some weird ex smoker btw, this is just a casual observation!

I used to hate taking mine to the park.

So I would read or play with my phone.

I'm totally guilty of this. They are playing and I get 5 mins to myself!

If they want me to push the swing or help them climb, then I'm there, but otherwise its a quick shufti at facebook.

*It's not just the park btw, it's the school playground, playgroups, soft play, a cafe anywhere your children could be terrorising other people while you facebook really.

There are people that are glued to their phones all the time. Those people are annoying. You should supervise your child at the park. You don't have to watch and engage with them every second, but glancing up from your phone to see what they're doing is a good idea.

It makes me laugh at playgroup when there are a group of mums sitting in silence all staring at their phones. They're probably all mumsnetting about each other....Grin

You don't take your kids to the playground for "together" time. You take them to wear them out.

Jesus, one thing I've learnt since joining MN is you get judged on absolutely everything!

Sometimes I have a wee look at my phone at the park. I'm sorry that I'm not watching my kids every bloody move. I might be a mum but I'm an actual person too.

You can get a snake app called snake97 or something it turns your whole phone into an old Nokia, it's fucking amazing.

I was on the tube the other day and the majority of people were 'on their phone'. We have gone far too far on this mobile marklarky! People have falled down potholes and been run over looking at their mobiles. What's the urgency....

So it's probably 10 years since you took your kids to the park? I'm guessing your phone back then was a Nokia 3210 and the best thing you could do on it was play snake

I want to play snake! goes to search for a snake app

Would you make the same judgement if the parents you saw were reading books or newspapers? I often read online news on mine when I get a spare 5 mins as well as go on mumsnet of course!

Just going on my own experience and things I've read on here chandellina, there are quite a few people at the park that I'd rather not engage with tbh (and I admit I'm making my own judgements on that one Grin)

Hahaha Astr0.

My phone is broken and cant get another until my "upgrade" is due at the end of April but it is quite liberating in a way. I speak to my children now and read books.

OP I think you should go and volenteer to play with people's kids at the park if you miss going to the park, the mum's would love they could sit and mumsnet whilst you play tag with their kids :)
