to think that people shouldn't post about their political or religious views on Facebook?

I have my own views. Everyone has their own views.

I don't understand people that need people to know their views on this subject.

I'm all for people having whatever political or religious views they want, I just don't want either of them preached to me.

You are perfectly within your rights not to post anything, yourself, pertaining to your political or religious views.

Other people quite enjoy using FB to discuss their views.

I have several friends with views very much opposed to mine - I like having my ideas challenged. It clarifies my own thinking & sometimes modifies it.

But if you don't like being preached at, it's a simple matter to ignore, 'hide' or defriend the preachy types, surely?

I don't mind them posting as long as I'm allowed to disagree publicly too. If they post about the new Pope, I should be allowed to post about what I think. Some people like the cut and trust of debate, some people want to spout unchallenged.

I'd rather they posted that than photos of their dinner.

Or even worse...photos of their DH cooking dinner like it's something so wonderful it needs to be shared with the world.

I just think political and religious views are different to that.

If someone was preaching on the street about God would you stand and listen to them?

I am not keen.

But I wouldn't say it shouldn't be done or they shouldn't be allowed because I agree with freedom of opinion.

I also believe that if someone posts something stupid on FB, something they have a right to post, then I have the right to tell them with a smile that they are twats. Or I can just delete them.

Recently I've rather enjoyed the arguments.

Worr photos of people's dinner (usually looks crap) is the ONE thing that stops me snacking inbetween meals, or even eating meals at all... BLURGH. They always look SO SHIT!!!

And nor do I read their FB status'....I simply scroll down the newsfeed which is the same as walking on by in the street.

YABU, but I don't like preachy types either. Neither do I enjoy debates ( they take up too much energy and really wind me up). My solution is to ignore and hide preachy people - stay clear of that negative energy. However, everyone's entitled to their opinion and have a right to express it on fb, as well (within the limits of legality of course).

It's useful to get and share links to articles. It's encouraging to know that anti-racist, like-minded people live nearby. It's very useful for organising meetings, protests about budget cuts, etc. if you didn't have politics and religious views on the www you'd be left with just kittens and porn.

I have one who keeps posting those god damed American pictures, you know, child in mini uniform saluting a coffin with 'click like if you think he's a hero' - I just have to argue the toss on that one along with the usual 'ex squaddies with no legs get X pound benefit, Immigrants with 30 children get Y pounds' - I can argue for hours on that one
