to think that people shouldn't post about their political or religious views on Facebook?

I have my own views. Everyone has their own views.

I don't understand people that need people to know their views on this subject.

I'm all for people having whatever political or religious views they want, I just don't want either of them preached to me.

I don't like those posts 'if we get a million clicks our dad will get us a puppy'. Or the military as hero ones. Any of the sentimental, sanctimonious, lowest-common-demominator ones that get shared by tons of people. I get bored with those tedious ones about other people's kids doing what kids do. But do you know what? I can just flick past them in the news feed. It's up to other people what they post, I don't have to read them. They don't have to read mine. I probably bore other people too.

YABU.

YABU and missing the point of FB. If you don't like something then hide it or delete the person. I enjoy my mad vegan friends posts even if I don't always agree. I don't like racist posts but they show me who is an arse and who I can delete and ignore IRL. Control your FB and its an enjoyable thing IMO.

ChairmanWow · 22/03/2013 06:54

It's the chain mail/like or this kid will die of cancer/look what I've had for dinner stuff that pisses me off. Me and many of my friends have strong political views and I get lots of information from FB. If it bothers you then hide or unfriend. I have with people who continually post inane nonsense.

It's your FB feed. Control it how you want, but don't ask people not to post stuff that interests them (unless racist, misogynistic etc). That's just rude.

KatyTheCleaningLady · 22/03/2013 06:56

Facebook is for me to stay in touch with my friends and family. I am interested in them as people and I like hearing their opinions.

Kytti · 22/03/2013 06:57

lol hollyberrybush I'm always getting into trouble for wading in like that too! I love slaying the hoax chain mails too. Bit sick of seeing lost dogs & stuff too. More kittens please!

Cakethrow · 22/03/2013 07:04

YABU
The whole idea of having your own Facebook page is so you can post what you want on it.

weegiemum · 22/03/2013 07:05

Up until 2 days ago I was fine about the religious stuff, but then a "friend" of mine posted about the type of man she wants to meet. I did a lighthearted reply and she totally laid into me about my religious views. I'm standing quite clear for a bit now!

glamourousgranny42 · 22/03/2013 07:05

YABU. I often use my fb to publicise campaigns and political issues. I also use it to highlight the importance of questioning and challenging the monarchy and religion. I am a left wing republical humanist and I suspect some of my friends don't always agree with me. I love a debate and discussion and I know people will have different views. I can't stand blind ignorance or racism and those people are just deleted. If someone sat in my house and spouted offensive views they would be asked to. Fb is the same.

glamourousgranny42 · 22/03/2013 07:06

Oops. Asked to leave.

NewAtThisMalarky · 22/03/2013 07:09

I'd far rather read someone's political or religious views than what they had for dinner or how much ironing they've done.

Facebook is full of inane tripe. It's great to see some discussion-worthy topics sometimes!

And yes I use it, but it's a useful tool for me for work.

BeckAndCall · 22/03/2013 07:12

Exactly what katythecleaninglady said.

SoWhatIfImWorkingClass · 22/03/2013 07:21

Another one that's annoying is:

"Soooo fucking angry what a fucking prick!"

"Aww what's up hun?"

"I'll inbox you hun. I can't put it on here."

Cue lots of other people saying similar things an then the person is getting all the attention they intended to get. It would be quite funny if nobody replied at all.

RubyGates · 22/03/2013 08:22

YABU.
I have friends who have very different views to me, I like to know why they think the way the do and to have spirited debates with them. Surely you only don't want to hear others' views if you're not sure about why you think the way you do.

If the post is badly thought out or offensive: HIDE IT.
If the same "friend" keeps doing the same thing HIDE or defriend them

Feminine · 22/03/2013 08:24

I have hidden about 70% of my friends.

Even if I like them, I might not enjoy their interests...

now it takes 2 secs to scroll Grin

BackforGood · 22/03/2013 08:49

Surely the way FB works, is that you select whose posts you want to be reading ? Have I missed something ? Confused
If you don't want to read someone's posts about what is going on in the world, then don't have them as your friend.
A lot easier to filter than a site such as this, where of course anyone can post whatever they like (within guidelines).

Trills · 22/03/2013 08:49

YAB ridiculous

Beksybob · 22/03/2013 09:03

I hate the ones where couples write smushy notes to each other. Why would anyone want to see that?!

notimefors · 22/03/2013 09:05

I quite like reading my friends' views on everything. None of them are idiots although we don't all share the same opinions, so it's interesting.

I don't mind pictures of dinners either.

Hate the quotes. Gosh how I hate the quotes.

notimefors · 22/03/2013 09:07

Actually, thinking about the quotes, I may have to take back the 'my friends are not idiots' comment I just made.
Anyone posting those must be a bit idioty.

YouTheCat · 22/03/2013 09:16

I don't mind people's political and religious stuff really, unless they are being racist, homophobic etc - then it's time to pull the plug on them.
