So upset about a night out

One of my good friends has offered to take me out for my birthday. She asked me about 7 weeks ago giving me plenty of notice to arrange babysitters & save a little cash.
Despite asking all my family & friends I have been unable to arrange anyone to watch even 1 of the dc Sad.
I am sat here in tears. I don't ever ask people to babysit. I haven't been on a night out for over 2 years. I am a sp.

I know it sucks...but if you can't get a sitter is there anyway she could come round? Maybe get a takeaway, a couple of glasses of wine and a trashy DVD?

Not a night out, but at least it's something.

How many DC do you have? Can you afford a babysitter? Can you ask anyone else, maybe another single parent who might appreciate you doing the same for them? Alternatively, can you explain the situation to your friend, and invite her round to your house for a lovely takeaway / wine / DVD etc.?

I don't think rearranging would do much good. I asked everyone as soon as she gave me the date. I was trying to give people plenty of notice. No one I know uses anyone other than friends or family to babysit. Thanks for the suggestion though.
I am a long way from you but thank you for the offer. It made me cry again that a complete stranger would offer but none of my real life family or friends are willing to.

It is not the same but its something you could still get dressed up

How many DC do you have and how old are they? There must be a way for you to get a night out.

Yes that will be the plan now. I was just so looking forward to leaving the house all dressed up & not being in charge for one evening. Thank you all for your replies. I will now shake it off & stop bubbling Smile

I understand...it's a bummer when you've got something planned and you're all excited. I think you should still get dressed up.

Wear ridiculous shoes that usually hurt your feet, but they won't because you'll be lounging in them Grin

I have 5 dc 14, 7,6 & 13 month old twins. At a push it was really only the twins that needed watching. My 14 year old said he would be fine with the other two. That made me cry too. Think I may be crying a little too much! Grin

Can you ask around if anyone knows a reliable teenager you could pay? Just because everyone you know uses friends and family to babysit, doesn't mean you can't be a little out there...or could you change the date of the night out for a date you could get a babysitter.

You have to go out.....it can be done somehow, even if it isn't easy....

Hi, I've used a babysitting agency a couple of times, they were brilliant. They advertise in all the local parent magazines, all the sitters have been background-checked. Don't know where you are but am sure there must be an equivalent where you are.
