So upset about a night out

Belini · 06/03/2013 21:46

One of my good friends has offered to take me out for my birthday. She asked me about 7 weeks ago giving me plenty of notice to arrange babysitters & save a little cash.
Despite asking all my family & friends I have been unable to arrange anyone to watch even 1 of the dc Sad.
I am sat here in tears. I don't ever ask people to babysit. I haven't been on a night out for over 2 years. I am a sp.

Ah I am so sorry :(

Could you rearrange?

Could you ask people to recommend a babysitter

I am sorry you have been so let down by your family and friends

hugs

MunchkinsMumof2 · 06/03/2013 21:48

I can sit for you if you happen to be in Berkshire? Try not to get upset.

rhondajean · 06/03/2013 21:50

Where are you Bellini?

Hiya cat I've been worried about you, haven't seen you for ages, how's things?

ScarletLady02 · 06/03/2013 21:51

I know it sucks...but if you can't get a sitter is there anyway she could come round? Maybe get a takeaway, a couple of glasses of wine and a trashy DVD?

Not a night out, but at least it's something.

MedicPeso · 06/03/2013 21:51

How many DC do you have? Can you afford a babysitter? Can you ask anyone else, maybe another single parent who might appreciate you doing the same for them? Alternatively, can you explain the situation to your friend, and invite her round to your house for a lovely takeaway / wine / DVD etc.?

Happy Birthday, I hope you have a lovely day Flowers.

OneHundredSecondsofSolitude · 06/03/2013 21:51

:( poor you. That's shit

Would having your friend over to yours be a rubbish substitute?

Some tunes in the kitchen, lovely cocktails or wine?

MedicPeso · 06/03/2013 21:53

I nearly said cocktails! You should come round to mine OneHundred Wink.

Belini · 06/03/2013 21:54

I don't think rearranging would do much good. I asked everyone as soon as she gave me the date. I was trying to give people plenty of notice. No one I know uses anyone other than friends or family to babysit. Thanks for the suggestion though.
I am a long way from you but thank you for the offer. It made me cry again that a complete stranger would offer but none of my real life family or friends are willing to.

Hi Rhonda :)

I am ok

Had a bit of RL stuff to deal with but am getting through it x

OP I like Scarlets idea of a night in with wine and a takeaway

It is not the same but its something you could still get dressed up

rhondajean · 06/03/2013 21:57

Glad you're okay cat. Can I pm you sometime?

Bellini, I'm sure many of us would babysit for you if we could.

ballstoit · 06/03/2013 21:58

How many DC do you have and how old are they? There must be a way for you to get a night out.

Does the friend have do/dh?

Belini · 06/03/2013 21:58

Yes that will be the plan now. I was just so looking forward to leaving the house all dressed up & not being in charge for one evening. Thank you all for your replies. I will now shake it off & stop bubbling Smile

The OP is in Fife. Any nearby Scottish posters around?

HollaAtMeBaby · 06/03/2013 21:59

Can you afford to pay someone?

ScarletLady02 · 06/03/2013 21:59

I understand...it's a bummer when you've got something planned and you're all excited. I think you should still get dressed up.

Wear ridiculous shoes that usually hurt your feet, but they won't because you'll be lounging in them Grin

Belini · 06/03/2013 22:01

I have 5 dc 14, 7,6 & 13 month old twins. At a push it was really only the twins that needed watching. My 14 year old said he would be fine with the other two. That made me cry too. Think I may be crying a little too much! Grin

Can you ask around if anyone knows a reliable teenager you could pay? Just because everyone you know uses friends and family to babysit, doesn't mean you can't be a little out there...or could you change the date of the night out for a date you could get a babysitter.

You have to go out.....it can be done somehow, even if it isn't easy....

Bluelightsandsirens · 06/03/2013 22:03

Are you friendly with a neighbour? We are on hello terms with ours and she has baby sat for us in the past?

Where are you, I'll do it.

What about sitters.com?

catgirl1976 · 06/03/2013 22:03

PM me anytime Rhonda x

HighBrows · 06/03/2013 22:04

Bellini if it's a thing that you have to have the night out in - get dressed up!

Dereksmalls · 06/03/2013 22:04

Hi, I've used a babysitting agency a couple of times, they were brilliant. They advertise in all the local parent magazines, all the sitters have been background-checked. Don't know where you are but am sure there must be an equivalent where you are.

catgirl1976 · 06/03/2013 22:05

OP there is an agency advertised on here sometimes if you have some cash

Or a neighbour with a responsible teen who wants to earn a bit of extra money?

rhondajean · 06/03/2013 22:05

Will do tomorrow x

Bugger, I'm in Scotland but Ayrshire, too far sorry.

Bluelightsandsirens · 06/03/2013 22:05
