to be pissed off at DH re: DDs lost comforter

DD has a Miffy figure that she absolutely adores. It is very rare (was mine when I was a child) and thus, irreplaceable. Consequently, I never let DD take it out of the house. This has never been an issue. She plays with it constantly in the house and when it's time to go out I remove Miffy then distract her.

DH (who knows that Miffy is rare and how important it is to DD) let her take Miffy out with the inlaws for the day - and they fucking lost Miffy. FFS I am fuming and feel quite upset. Now DH is all: "You're overreacting and spoiling the weekend". Fuck him. He's not the one who has to deal with the consequences of this 24/7, I however (as a SAHM) will have to deal with the tantrums and crying.

Sad

How could he not understand.

KatyTheCleaningLady · 02/03/2013 19:24

I don't know if you're quietly fuming or if you're being a massive cow, so I don't know if you're over-reacting, but YANBU to be annoyed with him.

Tee2072 · 02/03/2013 19:25

Can you say where they lost her? MNetters are quite good at this sort of search and rescue mission.

ditavonteesed · 02/03/2013 19:26

I have a tatty old miffy that dh bought me when we first met, she is small with a yellow button and pink body, does this sound like the one because if it is I will post it you. she has a few repairs and is a bit tatty round the edges.

BlackMaryJanes · 02/03/2013 19:26

Saltwell Park, Gateshead, in the sandpit, apparently :(

ditavonteesed Bless you. No it's a little plastic figure. She's wearing a blue dress.

YANBU

I would also be upset at his attitude too. Can you link to a picture of Miffy, on the off-chance someone can find a replacement?

BlackMaryJanes · 02/03/2013 19:30

Is this a man thing? Is DH just acting like other dads would? :(

OP posts:
AlanMoore · 02/03/2013 19:31

Yanbu, presumably you're upset for yourself too if it was your toy?

I'd guess he's being a twat cos he knows he's stuffed up big time though. He needs to get online and try and find two new miffys, one for you and one for dd.

SirBoobAlot · 02/03/2013 19:32

No point being pissed off about him loosing it - it happens - but YANBU to be pissed at him for reacting the way he has.

Call wherever they went, and go back and check yourself.

There are a selection of Miffy teddys on amazon etc, maybe she could choose one herself? Or take her out to a teddy shop. ExP took DS out and lost his beloved Gruffalo, DS was actually less upset than I was, he now no longer has a particular favourite, but changes it on a daily basis.

Know you're upset about loosing your own teddy too, which bloody sucks, and your DH is being a prat about it. :(

SirBoobAlot · 02/03/2013 19:34

No, it's not a dad thing. ExP was absolutely distraught, and still feels guilty, despite DS being fine.

Your H is being a knob.

NorthernLurker · 02/03/2013 19:35

YANBU. What a prat. He KNEW there was a Miffy rule and he blew it. I would be livid too.

NorthernLurker · 02/03/2013 19:37

Looks like there's a Miff Facebook page. Worth asking there for similar?

RedHelenB · 02/03/2013 19:37

Sorry but YABU _ toys get lost & it's no good ruining the weekend over it as he says.

Finbarfinbo · 02/03/2013 19:39

YANBU, I would be really annoyed, especially at the way he has reacted.
Im that area, I can go tomorrow and have a look.

SirBoobAlot · 02/03/2013 19:39

Plastic figure

Plush in blue dress

MrsDimples · 02/03/2013 19:43

YANBU

I would be dying of a mixture of despair & anger and more than likely hooked up intravenously to a vat of vodka.

If it's any consolation, I lost my favourite, went everywhere with me teddy when I was little. My parents went out to find it and came home with a brand new one - mine was very tatty and worn, the new one was complete with a tongue which mine had never had. I knew it wasn't my teddy, but I completely accepted it as my teddy. Weird. I am a very emotional / sentimental person, but I just accepted it.

Still got my teddy now.

Hope you get yours back & DD is OK.

It depends if your DD is really upset or if you are.

I get irrationally upset if DS loses things, especially things that he really loves but he is much less bothered than I am tbh.

I don't know if this is the case here but just throwing it out there

MrsDimples · 02/03/2013 19:46

Just remembered, my parents had some tale about teddy being in an accident and having to go to hospital, hence it looking new.

livinginwonderland · 02/03/2013 19:48

i doubt she'll be as upset as you think. i lost my favourite toy in an airport when i was four, and my dad just took me to a shop and let me pick out a new one. i cried until i got the new one, and then it was totally forgotten. i think you're more upset because it's yours, which is understandable, but don't try and project that on DD.

Viviennemary · 02/03/2013 19:50

It really is so so annoying when these things happen. You think why did he let her take it out the house. Why, why, why. But these things happen. But you might be able to replace it somehow.

FBmum · 02/03/2013 19:50

not quite the same, but best I can find so far...
