We filled a thread, so here's another!

measurement

StatisticallyChallenged · 05/03/2013 22:10

That sounds fine then Lueji - it isn't unusual for ladies who are especially slender (i.e. lacking in rib padding!) to need one back above where they "measure"

Just joining in to say thank you so much! I have just done a second online order with some bigger cup sizes as I'd been a bit cautious the first time (even after reading all your helpful comments)! I have one new bra that fits beautifully and it seems to improve my whole shape, can't wait for my next order to arrive! Thanks Thanks

blonderedhead · 05/03/2013 22:39

Anyone else waiting for the news item about an unexpected increase in lingerie retail figures?

StatisticallyChallenged · 05/03/2013 22:41

at everywhere except M&S :)

Wow just received bra delivery. This may be life changing. Thank you so much for your help and bra witch craft!

StatisticallyChallenged · 05/03/2013 22:50

Feeling comfier?

Flyingfruit · 06/03/2013 07:23

Probably already been answered but what does it mean if the arm straps cut in? The rest of the bra seems to fit perfectly.

sparkle12mar08 · 06/03/2013 07:39

Cutting shoulder straps are usually a sign of too big a back and sometimes too small a cup - the breasts fall forwards because there is no support and drag the straps with them. Are you sure the back is right?

BabyLabyrinth · 06/03/2013 08:10

I didn't feel ignored, AF! I was quite happy to wait my turn. I think these threads are fabulous, and Stat, Sorrel, Married and all the other experts and enthusiasts alike deserve medals, or at least a stint on This Morning to correctly measure the nation (and Holly, like someone up thread mentioned!).

Stat, how come you have become such an expert? When did you realise that M&S and everyone else were doing it so wrong?

BabyLabyrinth · 06/03/2013 08:16

I just remeasured under the bust, just to be sure. This time actually under my droopy boobs, instead of somewhere lower around my ribs. Definitely 30 inches.

Beksybob · 06/03/2013 08:26

I measured my husband for a bra last night. I think he needs a 34D. 35 under and 38 over. Or is that a 34C? He'll be terribly dissapointed not to be a D cup.

SorrelForbes · 06/03/2013 08:30

How squishy is he?

Beksybob · 06/03/2013 08:40

Not squishy atall. He does't have an ounce of fat.

SorrelForbes · 06/03/2013 08:47

[jealous] of your DH!

SorrelForbes · 06/03/2013 08:48

I might measure DH. I reckon he'll be around a 42B Grin

Beksybob · 06/03/2013 08:59

Ha! If it helps, he's only young, there's plenty of time for him to get squishier

StatisticallyChallenged · 06/03/2013 09:05

Baby, I think the technical term for most of us enthusiastic amateurs! My best friend growing up was big of nork, and M&S were wedging here in a 36E. She had constant backpain and at that time the only bras they sold in an E were utterly hideous. Proper frump territory. Her parents heard about Bravissimo, which at that time was a fairly small company and drove her all the way to Newcastle from Edinburgh to get fitted. Turns out - a 30G was needed.

I got fitted in JL a year or two later who stuck me in a 32/34F...she told me Bravissimo had opened a Glasgow store so off I trotted. Oh, look, another 30G! An addiction was born as I soon realised I had all these slim backed friends wearing the wrong bras. That was about 7 years ago now... I realised how badly wrong some people were getting it when I had to measure a friend for a dress, and I couldn't work out whether to mention the boob that was in the bra, or the boob coming out the top of it. Another 34/36DD wedger...off to the new Edinburgh Bravissimo (after forcing her to try on my bras to prove the point!) and another 30G/GG (it's quite a common size in reality!)

Guesses at Dh needing a 46C...we should so measure them lol

OP posts:
AgathaF · 06/03/2013 09:09

So, the extra hooks for when the bra gives a bit. When should this happen? Would you expect to be using those hooks after a month or two months, or more or less? Bras I bought in October/November are needing to be done up on the tighter hooks now, as is a Curvy Kate I bought a month ago. I haven't lost or gained any weight. I am wondering though, if they stretch that quickly, does that mean they will have over stretched so be poorly fitting in another couple of months, because if so, I can see that it becomes very expensive to keep replacing bras every six months or so.

StatisticallyChallenged · 06/03/2013 09:13

It depends how often you wear them. My bras generally last longer than that...but I have quite a few Blush

However, if they are still ok everywhere else you could consider altering them - it's very easy to take them in by an inch or so at the back (just remove and reattach the fastening section) and that would prolong the life.

Spo · 06/03/2013 09:22

Hello, I really need new bras. Have always loved la senza balconnettes but not avaiable since they went bust. Hsve been wearing 38 e. Round chest measure 38 inches, then round boobs 48/49 inches. ..what do you think please?

Velve · 06/03/2013 09:23

Listing my swap offerings again as made a mistake in the sizes last time.

I have:

1 Royce Sadie nursing bra in ivory, 30F, used twice
1 Royce Sadie nursing bra in pink, 30F, used 3 times
1 Royce Charlotte nursing bra in black, 30F, unused
1 Royce Charlotte nursing bra in white, 30F, unused
1 Freya Arabella plunge bra in black, 30FF, used twice

StatisticallyChallenged · 06/03/2013 09:26

Spo...try scooping in to that 38e, I suspect you may discovered 4 boobs :)
I would suggest you start at a 38GG, but quite often ladies who are slightly squishier need to go down a back size from their measurements so don't be afraid to try a 36 (and up 1-2 cups)
