to go through Active Convos hitting 'hide' to every thread I don't want to read

LoopDeLoops · 24/02/2013 13:03

... in my mind thinking:

Boring
Oh fuck off
Oh fuck off
Yuk
Again?
Boring

etc.

before actually reading any threads. I can do this for a good few minutes before my active convo page is tidy enough to actually read something. Then I go and read it and it messes the thole system up again, ad. infinitum.

Is this normal?

OP posts:
Schooldidi · 24/02/2013 13:06

I think so. It's what I do so it must be normal.

I have hidden whole topics too though so i don't see anything conception or pregnancy related (because they upset me rather than bore me), I don't see any product testing either.

Do you need to hide some (more) topics as well as just individual threads?

Tee2072 · 24/02/2013 13:08

I do it all the time. It's very cathartic.

FlouncingMintyy · 24/02/2013 13:10

I cba to do it but often I look through the 50 conversations and there are none whatsoever I am interested in. Tis why I post less and less.

[been here too long emoticon].

GobblersKnob · 24/02/2013 13:11

I have hidden nearly every topic, my active convos barely movesGrin

Herrena · 24/02/2013 13:19

Can you hide them without opening them up first?

EarnestDullard · 24/02/2013 13:25

I've never hidden a thread ever. I just ignore the ones that don't interest me. But YANBU, do what works for you, obviously.

FellatioNels0n · 24/02/2013 13:26

YANBU.

Sometimes MN is like my wardrobe. Overflowing with too much stuff but nothing that I'm actually in the mood to wear.

It doesn't matter how many times I rifle though it all, everything is either too old and tired, or too serious, or too boring, or too frivolous, or it just doesn't fit me. Sad

What I need is a capsule MN wardrobe of about 10 or 12 people who can be relied on for every mood or occasion, their style always suits me, they can be dressed up or dressed down, they never go out of fashion and I don't get bored with them.

Everyone else can go in the charity bag.

SoleSource · 24/02/2013 13:27

Zzzzz not this again?

amillionyears · 24/02/2013 13:29

I have hidden a thread very occasionayl. Those where I have been one of the first on them, and then there another 200 answers to a rather dull question, so that it keeps coming to the top of the "I'm on" list.

I do not hide any topics at all.
Just about anything can be of interest to me at some point.

And I have my settings on the the max of last 100 on active convo, not 50.
I would have it set at 200, if the system let me.

usualsuspect · 24/02/2013 13:33

I occasionally hide a thread, only to find out later it's turned into a bun fight and I flipping missed it.

BelindaCarlisle · 24/02/2013 13:34

i do that
also hide ones with swearing in,( i know! get me the prude) boring clique ones twilight sluts etc
and ones about schools BORRRRING

QOD · 24/02/2013 13:36

Oooooooh you can hide whole topics?

Fab!

BelindaCarlisle · 24/02/2013 13:38

you see just BINNED the state versus private one
BINNEd the one about anxiety/

sometimes i comment on a thread hten hide it after as it drones ON AND ONE and annoys me

BelindaCarlisle · 24/02/2013 13:38

most ones about murders get PIAOOOWWWED too ( mcann pistorius etc) as the people on them are just weirdos

BelindaCarlisle · 24/02/2013 13:40

QOD i have hidden all the kid based topics really.
AIBU might be going next as its shit

oh fuck off

BelindaCarlisle · 24/02/2013 13:40

forumla feeding

PIAOOOOW

ChewinTheFat · 24/02/2013 13:43

What's the point in even coming on then? If the threads don't interest you maybe find another site?

BelindaCarlisle · 24/02/2013 13:44

some do. but loads dont

FellatioNels0n · 24/02/2013 13:44

I hide anything where the whole topic is unlikely to ever interest me, so everything to do with pregnancy and babies, for example.

I get the right hump if I open a thread in Chat or AIBU with really exciting sounding title, like 'I've just had the worst night of my life' expecting it to be about someone's house burning down, or their husband was arrested for murder or something, only to find that it's about a non-sleeping two year old. I feel cheated. There are topics for that. Angry

comedycentral · 24/02/2013 13:46

This is an odd thread Confused

FellatioNels0n · 24/02/2013 13:47

I never hide individual threads just because I actively dislike them though, or because they offend me in some way.

QOD · 24/02/2013 13:47

I've tried both ways and I'm obviously an idiot, I can't de select or select... Well I can but whichever list I use it includes ....

Schooldidi · 24/02/2013 13:48

You don't have to be interested in everything do you? I imagine reading every thread would be even more time consuming than reading every thread that interests me. I spend enough time on here as it is.

BertieBotts · 24/02/2013 13:50

I hide thread titles about spiders or wasps or ones which make me feel sick.

The only other threads I hide are if I post on a thread about a TV show and then everyone watches it live and starts putting comments on it like "OMG I cried so much when X died!" before I've had a chance to watch it!

FellatioNels0n · 24/02/2013 13:51

Belinda I don't mind the norty cake eater so long as they announce it in the thread title, and don't waste my time. It's when they do a tantalising 'AIBU to have done this terrible thing, in view of my wedding next week? .... and then you open it and they've just eaten a cake and risked putting on half an ounce. Confused It's ten seconds of my life I cant get back. I could have been eating my own cake.
