Especially when most working people couldn't never afford to live somewhere costing that much?

Anyone here who is jealous of the size of this council house, perhaps you should go get a job as a live in manager at a children's home. That is probably a reasonable reflection of what it would be like in this 6 bedroom "mansion".

Angelfootprints · 19/02/2013 20:56

Many people in my age bracket have resigned be having no children full stop MrsDeVere. Just unaffordable for them.

gaelicsheep · 19/02/2013 20:57

Angel, it is rented you know. The Daily Mail didn't really mean she's being "given" the house. It has sod all to do with the housing crisis, except for freeing up two other houses for needy families.

BoneyBackJefferson · 19/02/2013 20:58

Its funny how posters complain about the inacuracies/gaps in the daily mail story yet are happy to make up their own falsehoods to fill the perceived gaps.

HoHoHoNoYouDont · 19/02/2013 20:59

amber no, he wasn't much older and yes, he stuck around. My point is that two similar situation attract totally different reporting styles. Up thread people are appalled that underage sex is rape/abuse but then when it's reported in today's Daily Mail story yet in the Radfords case because there's a happy ending there is no reference to the girl being coerced into underage sex.

gaelicsheep · 19/02/2013 21:00

Worst of all here is that, once again, so many MUMSnetters are so preoccupied with their own petty jealousy of other parents that they forget to care about the welfare of the children.

Its just what I was thinking. People claim it is all made up. When friends have made comments to me about the local GS which their children go to I have been accused of making that up too...

propertyNIGHTmareBEFOREXMAS · 19/02/2013 21:02

What a sad story but the quote from the furious neighbour: 'she treats her womb like a clown car' is as every bit as hilarious as it was when I first read it on a different thread yesterday Grin
I don't know what the answer is. It is an age old problem which will continue to exist as long as those who won't support themselves reproduce. I don't think there can be any humane resolution to the continuation of the cycle.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 19/02/2013 21:04

To me, it seems much more healthy for people just to live their own lives and make their own choices without eating the selves up with resentment and frothing at the choices of others.

gaelicsheep · 19/02/2013 21:05

Go on, hands up who wants to swap places with this woman so they can get their grubby hands on her benefits and her shiny new mansion?

HoHoHoNoYouDont · 19/02/2013 21:06

I think more people actually want to get their grubby hands on the woman and shake some sense into her.

gaelicsheep · 19/02/2013 21:07

Why? It's none of their business.

gaelicsheep · 19/02/2013 21:10

Or perhaps they want to hold her down and sterilise her so she can't have any more kids to steal their precious taxes. Don't believe what the Govt tells you - the odd very large family is not going to bankrupt this country.

maisiejoe123 · 19/02/2013 21:10

Not working and getting a large house for nothing. It sounds attractive tbh! Beats putting back into society.

NcNcNcNc · 19/02/2013 21:10

I feel a bit sick after reading this thread.

Can't you look at her life and think 'there but for the grace of God?'

She was having sex at 13 with a 23 year old - rape surely? She got pregnant. She made bad decisions. Perhaps she didn't have the family support/intelligence/education/role models that those of us that didn't make those choices had.

Where is the compassion?

The CHILDREN ARE HERE. What do you suggest we do with them? House them in the workhouse because their mother/father made bad choices??

You're just so jealous. What of? Go have 11 children yourselves if you're that envious.

Of course it feels 'wrong/unfair' when you (me certainly) had to wait till we could afford it to have children, only have the amount of children we can afford etc etc but do you really want to swap with her?? What's done is done, the children deserve support and a house surely?

Did you say you had experience of caring for 11 children 24/7 maisiejoe? I can't quite remember.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 19/02/2013 21:11

It's a large house because 12 people live in it. How attractive

gaelicsheep · 19/02/2013 21:13

No, Mumsnetters are doing a very good job of giving women a bad name and painting us all as heartless, jealous and spiteful cows.

discrete · 19/02/2013 21:13

When I lived in an expensive part of London the flat next door, worth at least 500k (and that was 10 years ago) belonged to the council and was occupied by an elderly lady.

Was that ridiculous too? Should she have been kicked out because most working people could not have afforded it?

HoHoHoNoYouDont · 19/02/2013 21:14

Did she have a horse though?

maisiejoe123 · 19/02/2013 21:14

Her choice to have 11.
