To feel cheated out of Mother's Day?

It's on my ruddy birthday this year! That's simply not fair is it? I feel disgruntled that DH/DCs will presumably combine the two rather than making a fuss out of me on TWO days...

My birthday is the day after I am expecting to be very spoilt for those two days, of course it probably won't happen like that, but as long as a cuppa tea in bed and a nice homemade card or two....

ajandjjmum · 18/02/2013 18:11

I know what you mean - my birthday is on the 18th and so often it falls on the weekend of my birthday celebrations.

For once it's early this year! Grin

SkinnybitchWannabe · 18/02/2013 18:14

Perfect excuse to celebrate all weekend then! Double the fun Wink

HeySoulSister · 18/02/2013 18:15

5 years ago I was in labour on mothers day! It was also my dp's birthday! So we were both robbed!

My other dc weren't sure what was happening... And as it was a home birth they decided to just sit still watch and behave!

PureQuintessence · 18/02/2013 18:16
Hmm

Yeah, try having your birthday on 14th February, and being Norwegian. Thats worse. Much much worse. Not only does the 14th fall on a Sunday ever so often, the second Sunday in February is also Mothers day. So Triple whammy, now and then, and double whammy every friggin year.

AngryFeet · 18/02/2013 18:20

My DH is away on business and my DD is at PGL this Mothers Day. Will just be me and DS 6 so will be a bit sad. Oh well!

ByTheWay1 · 18/02/2013 18:21

we spend Mother's day with MIL - always...... I sometimes feel a bit petulant and cheated, but she is elderly, frail and generally unwell, so I don't really begrudge her...

ChewinTheFat · 18/02/2013 18:23

My birthday is the 17th so I've had this misfortune in the past. Not much you can do really.

mrsjay · 18/02/2013 18:25

It has been on my mums Birthday I didnt know what to do but she did get double presents and a meal out which she never usually gets as she wont come but it was her birthday so came you could really milk this you know Grin

Binkyridesagain · 18/02/2013 18:27

Mother's Day has always been a quiet do nothing day here, as we are all too exhausted and fed up of celebrating, this year will be more tiring than usual. End of February is DS's birthday, beginning of march is DD's party (21st), 2 days later is her actual birthday, 3 days after that its my birthday and then 2 days after its Mother's Day, I think I will be spending it asleep.

Yfronts · 18/02/2013 19:34

tell them you plan to celebrate your birthday one weekend and mothers day the next?

magichamster · 18/02/2013 19:37

My birthday is sometimes on Father's Day - that's got to be worse

weaselm4 · 18/02/2013 19:37

DS's birthday is on Mother's Day, which is fine with me. I still can't get enthusiastic about it 'cos my darling mum is no longer with us (even tho I clearly deserve masses of flowers and chocolates...)

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 18/02/2013 19:40

I'm not bothered about Mother's Day, we have both DCs birthdays, Valentines, then my birthday in quick succession, really celebrated out by the time Mother's Day comes round. To be honest I think that one and Valentines are both just marketing opportunities for card companies, I wouldn't be bothered if Mother's Day disappeared off the calendar.

landofsoapandglory · 18/02/2013 19:41

It was on my 10th wedding anniversary one year, which was also the same day my DH was sent away for 4 months by the RAF!

thekidsrule · 18/02/2013 19:54

i really dont get all the huge fuss over mothers day/fathers day etc

yes its on your birthday is it so bad

birthdays i think are really for children and should have a fuss, special day etc

it seems a recent thing that adults have to make a huge thing of their birthday and i hate all the fuss,(exception a 40th etc)

really dont get it

HerrenaHarridan · 18/02/2013 19:59

Hi op. me too Smile

Mines a baby and I'm a single mum so there won't be extra pampering or breakfast in bed. Not even a hint of a lie in.
Unless I get it myself there won't even be a card
Sad
At least my birthday is not on Xmas like one of my friends that would just suck

snotsallover · 18/02/2013 20:11

Its dps birthday on the same day and i have been trying to convince him that he doesn't need to celebrate his birthday this year as hes getting on a bitbut he's having none of it calling me selfish as we have just had xmas, valentines day my birthdays next week then mothers day don't think i'm gonna win this one.

carabos · 18/02/2013 20:13

My birthday always seems to sometimes falls on Father's Day. One year we were abroad with MiL and FiL but without the DCs. I took the Father's Day cards and presents from the DCs for both their DF and DGF secretly in my luggage and took them down to breakfast on the morning.

DH and DFiL were pleasantly surprised to get their gifts, and MiL gave me my birthday card and present at the same time. All good. Except that MiL, FiL and I then looked expectantly at DH, waiting for him to give me my cards and gifts from him and the DCs. Tumbleweed. His excuse - "But we're on holiday". Confused.

MrsDoomsPatterson · 18/02/2013 20:14

Try working - that's robbed!

Squitten · 18/02/2013 20:14

My birthday is the day after but it's a Big Birthday this year so a fuss will be made. Or else.

MrsDoomsPatterson · 18/02/2013 20:16

And have a birthday on the same day as your dd...that also means no birthdays for the next few yrs...(fine with me really though!!)

deleted203 · 18/02/2013 20:18

Glad I'm not the only one! Feeling less disgruntled now thanks to you lot. Herrena I shall think birthday thoughts towards you on the day!

I shall have the entire weekend as 'mine - all mine' I think. Grin

I feel your pain OP. Last year (my first Mothers Day) it fell on the 18th, dp and dsis share that day as their birthday.

This year it falls the day after DM's birthday.....on Mil's birthday! March is an expensive month in this house! Grin
