To think that newborns don't look cute in jeans?

How judgey am I? I saw some photos of my cousins beautiful baby boy who was born yesterday morning. Wearing jeans and a lumberjack shirt. I know I sound old fashioned I just assumed they wore baby grows and things with poppers on for the first few weeks. Fire away.

When My dd was born I made a deal that with my mum that she wouldn't buy her anything pink if I didn't put her in Jeans. It turned out that she couldn't abide anythingwith a waistband for the first year anyway so she had some mega cute onesies with matching Jackets, that weren't pink and no jeans that I wasn't going to buy anyway.

Sorry if that came across as implying that Detective.

I think babies in babygros look v. cute and if I had another now (which isn't an option) I would probably go that route myself.

Was just trying to make the point that sometimes there is more to people's choices than meets the eye and judging really achieves nothing and helps no-one.

When I had PND I felt a complete failure - I'd failed to go into labour spontaneously, failed to deliver naturally, failed to breastfeed, then DD had raging colic and couldn't be comforted no matter how hard I tried, so that was another failure.

The one thing I didn't 'fail' at was getting her dressed in a nice outfit every day - that was how I felt - no reflection on anyone else's choices, but if I thought people were judging me at the time for doing the only thing I felt I was capable of doing successfully for my DD I'd have been devastated.

YANBU I still refuse to put denim on DD and she's 5 months. My reasoning is, falling asleep wearing your jeans is uncomfortable and restrictive as an adult so it must be worse for a tiny baby who sleeps for 16hrs a day! Babygrows are lovely a snuggly.

We have one pair of jeans for DS3 11 weeks. Although they are soft. I prefer him in baby grows. DS2 was always in baby grows up to about 9 months.
They keep them warm and are nice and soft against their skin.

A friend of mine told me about it helping distinguish between night and night. I think sunlight/moonlight helps them distinguish between night and day. Like babies can tell the difference between day clothes and night clothes.

We have two pairs of baby jeans given as presents that I never had the heart to put on my kids.

My daughter came home from the hospital in a toddler T-shirt and nappy because my twunk of a husband forgot to bring the baby bag to the hospital.

To me babygro's are pyjamas, which is why they're called sleepsuits. Ds had newborn size jeans, they were basically joggers that looked like denim. Each to their own but I prefer my child not to wear pjs all day.

While babies spend so much of their day sleeping it seems appropriate to put them in clothes which are designed to be comfortable for sleeping.

I think babies in babygros in the day look like no-one has bothered dressing them. Just been left in their pyjamas. All those bastarding poppers too. I always do them up wrong, even after 2 DC and 2 baby mindees.

My two have been dressed in outfits since day 1. I agree with the hard denim thing though, however DS had a lovely pair of jeggers (denim-look joggers) and they both had lovely soft lined jeans.

MIL bought DS some denim shorts with belts, and I couldn't work out what bothered me about them - but thinking about it now, it was the stiffness. They were like cardboard. They were passed on unworn.

Seriously, who dresses a 0-3 month old in a shirt and tie?? What next, a little brief case and work suit?

YANBU OP, horrible to see babies in stiff uncomfortable jeans. Anything other than babygrows is just odd.

I hate seeing babies that are dressed up in complicated "fashionable" outfits. ITs a baby, not a doll ffs!

Or didnt see the need in disturbing them to force arms into tshirts, cardigans and leg into tights and trousers when an easy to get on babygro will do the same job but be comfier and easy for mum and baby.

The thing is, I'll dress my baby in clothes, you dress your baby in baby gros. Its everyone's personal choice, and you should just do what works best for you and your child.

When my brother was a baby (and I'm sure when I was one too, but I don't remember that), I remember him wearing babygrows all the time during the day, but funny long nightdress things with lots of ties at night.

I think the change of name to "sleepsuit" has a lot to answer for - it makes people think they are like pyjamas and so somehow inappropriate for day wear. Even though the vast majority of newborn clothes are like pyjamas anyway, bizarrely that's OK, so soft jersey cotton trousers and a soft matching top - identical to pyjamas-, can be daywear, but a "sleepsuit" can't?

Babies shouldn't have to conform to norms of adult fashion! Why shouldn't people be able to dress their babies in a form of comfortable, practical clothing, just because it's been rebranded as a "sleepsuit"?
