To think that newborns don't look cute in jeans?

How judgey am I? I saw some photos of my cousins beautiful baby boy who was born yesterday morning. Wearing jeans and a lumberjack shirt. I know I sound old fashioned I just assumed they wore baby grows and things with poppers on for the first few weeks. Fire away. Smile

They're newborns. They sleep on and off all day and night.

Sorry but no baby fashion sense???

I like her to look stylish???

She is a toddler, they look utterly scrumptious in a tshirt nappy and wellies! They are cute as hell covered in mud and a big grin :o

At no point should "fashion sense" or "style" come into it until they are much much older, preferably in their teens!

Possibly a gift from someone who would be hurt if they were not used? We got so many 'proper' outfits for DSs at birth and mostly they went to charity shop with tags on. But each to their own eh?

Each to there own imo,

my dd3 left hospital at a day old in a tutu, she also had jeans but they has soft cotten inside and were very soft material

i cant stand babys that are in babygrows unless its bed time but i would never judge someone on it . there are so many beautiful outfits out there for them.

YANBU

The people that do it have no baby fashion sense.

I have my DD dressed immaculate whilst I walk around like a tramp really enjoy shopping for her and like her to look stylish (she is 3) I still haven't put jeans on her, I just don't think they look right on babies/toddlers until they reach about 3 1/2 - 4.

Maybe this spring I'll put her in some peach or jade coloured jeans, but not denim.

dogsmom that's exactly how my sil dresses dn (who only just turned 1). Conplete with leopard print fur hat and hand muff thing. Oh and not forgetting the animal print dummy and hot pink buggy

As long as babies aren't dressed in leopard print with pierced ears it's fine.

(Throws cat amongst the pigeons and walks away whistling innocently)

They aren't called babygrows here, they're called "sleepers" so it does make them seem like something that should just be worn at night. And they usually have zippers, not snaps. :)

DD will be here in May and I've just got little t-shirts and leggings and a few rompers...it could still be chilly when she gets here, but July and August are always ridiculously hot so she'll probably just be in T-shirt and diaper anyway.

I disagree with the poster who dislikes babies in cutesy animal outfits with ears. I was a terrible mum and put mine in some ridiculous bunny/bear/giraffe/doggy outfits. If you can't get away with a little elf outfit at 18 months when can you wear it?

My pet hate is adults wearing animal hats with ears. That is silly.

Another fan of babygros, with the occasional pair of soft dungarees.

But Skinny is so wrong - fancy dress and most importantly clothes with ears are unbelievably brilliant and an integral part of my 16wo DS's wardrobe. I am going to put him in his teddy suit RIGHT NOW for my own entertainment because it's so soft and warm and snuggly. Grin

Yanbu, i'm not keen on them for newborns either.
A baby is much comfier in a lovely sleepsuit, dress or joggers

My 3 month old is currently wearing a short sleeve vest and a babygro both white. If he's not wearing a white babygro he wears one with little blue birds or one with toadstools and rainbows. Some of his vests are colourful but you wouldn't know as they are hidden. I think he looks lovely and snuggly :)

YANBU. I don't like seeing newborns in 'outfits' at all, only soft babygros.

If I was sleeping on and off all day, anything with a waistband would not be my choice. Neither would I like to have shoes on.

I would also like to dress this way if I could so DS was in sleep-suits until he was two.

The bane of my life was cheap tights (scratchy / gusset too low) bought for DD with little skirts and knickers when she was still in nappies and unable to stand. Looked ridiculous.

YANBU - DS2 is 4mo and still mostly in babygros, or vests and footed leggings. He does have a set of really soft denim dungarees (very thin and soft); but the baby jeans I've never understood. Never really liked the baby girl denim skirts either.

I think they can get away with babygros all the time up until about 6m, but then it starts to look like they're out in their pyjamas - I did this with DS1 and some old man commented that he was still in his pyjamas while I was out with him, so at that point I stopped.

I do like them to wear nice little shirts though for special occasions - never a tie, that's ludicrously dangerous! Shock - but usually with baby shorts/leggings.

When my DD turned 4 weeks I started to dress her in clothes (dungarees, dresses, leggings etc) everyday to use up outfits people had bought her.

My nephew was born 5 months ago and my SIL is only really now occasionally dressing him for outings and rhyme time and stuff.

I'm pregnant with DD2 and this one will be in babygrows as long as I can! So much easier Grin

YANBU. DD wore her first ever pair of jeans last week. She is 15 months. She wore babygros for 8 months, then track suit bottoms over vests. For family lunches etc, she wore tights and jersey dresses.

However, she has always been a chubby little thing, so seemed very uncomfortable in waistbands.

When my brother was a baby (and I'm sure when I was one too, but I don't remember that), I remember him wearing babygrows all the time during the day, but funny long nightdress things with lots of ties at night.

I think the change of name to "sleepsuit" has a lot to answer for - it makes people think they are like pyjamas and so somehow inappropriate for day wear. Even though the vast majority of newborn clothes are like pyjamas anyway, bizarrely that's OK, so soft jersey cotton trousers and a soft matching top - identical to pyjamas-, can be daywear, but a "sleepsuit" can't? Confused

Babies shouldn't have to conform to norms of adult fashion! Why shouldn't people be able to dress their babies in a form of comfortable, practical clothing, just because it's been rebranded as a "sleepsuit"?

Grin baby gros are clothes. For babies.

The thing is, I'll dress my baby in clothes, you dress your baby in baby gros. Its everyone's personal choice, and you should just do what works best for you and your child.

I think babies in babygros in the day look like no-one has bothered dressing them.

Or didnt see the need in disturbing them to force arms into tshirts, cardigans and leg into tights and trousers when an easy to get on babygro will do the same job but be comfier and easy for mum and baby.

YANBU

I hate seeing babies that are dressed up in complicated "fashionable" outfits. ITs a baby, not a doll ffs!

A couple of years ago I saw a shirt and tie set in Next for 0-3 months Shock

Seriously, who dresses a 0-3 month old in a shirt and tie?? What next, a little brief case and work suit?

YANBU OP, horrible to see babies in stiff uncomfortable jeans. Anything other than babygrows is just odd.

I think babies in babygros in the day look like no-one has bothered dressing them. Just been left in their pyjamas. All those bastarding poppers too. I always do them up wrong, even after 2 DC and 2 baby mindees.

My two have been dressed in outfits since day 1. I agree with the hard denim thing though, however DS had a lovely pair of jeggers (denim-look joggers) and they both had lovely soft lined jeans.

MIL bought DS some denim shorts with belts, and I couldn't work out what bothered me about them - but thinking about it now, it was the stiffness. They were like cardboard. They were passed on unworn.
