To think that newborns don't look cute in jeans?

How judgey am I? I saw some photos of my cousins beautiful baby boy who was born yesterday morning. Wearing jeans and a lumberjack shirt. I know I sound old fashioned I just assumed they wore baby grows and things with poppers on for the first few weeks. Fire away. Smile

Babies sleep alot in the day. How comfy would you be in jeans all day, sleeping.

Jeans on babies must not be comfy. Also dresses. They are lying down all day, with a dress rucked up behind them. Awful.

If you don't like baby gros, soft leggings and a t shirt over their vest.

M and S do some lovely stuff at the moment. Colourful but soft and practical.

I don't like stiff denim on babies either, but I do like proper clothes once they reach 2-3 months ish. My dc's were summer born and wore just a vest for the first month or so in the house, as it was so hot a when it cooled down a bit I just used soft joggers/leggings over a vest (with ds my mum said "oh thank goodness he's in something other than a vest, I'm so bored of seeing him just wearing a vest! Confused). By 3-4 months or so though, I think they looked too old to be wearing babygrows in the day as I think that's very much a newborn thing. I stuck to soft stuff though, including soft trousers that looked like jeans!

DD is 12 weeks and she mainly wears babygrows, sometimes dresses and tights or leggings and tops. I didn't want her in jeans but MIL bought her some in 0-3 she's worn then twice but the legs ride up and her legs get cold. Plus she looks too grown up.
She has nice babygrows for daytime and boring ones for bed time

Yes about three people have said now that MIL brought jeans - us too - Mil brought jeans.

I don't like jeans on babies; we had a few pairs given us when DS was little and they felt so stiff and heavy that I never put them on him. When he was really small he was mostly in babygrows, though we had a few pairs of lovely soft dungarees (in t-shirt/babygrow material) that I liked better than trousers. He was a real wriggler so little trousers never really worked, he'd just wriggle them off.

I was far too lazy to dress my babies in anything but vests and sleepsuits for several months. I just don't see the point. Hell, I'd wear pyjamas myself constantly if it was allowed.

No need to judge other people for how they dress their babies!

I love dressing DD in all sorts of outfits - not jeans so much but leggings, dresses, tops. I always make sure she's comfortable and I think she looks cute!

Other people love sleepsuits for their babies - their babies look comfy and cute too - no need to criticise anyone Smile

Look we all judge all the time, it is human nature. Some pretend they don't, but they do.

DD was in babygrows for ages - she's 9mos now and still wears one when we go swimming. Anything to make dressing easier! And on long journeys too.

I just used to put her in colourful ones in the day and white ones at night.

Teeny tiny jeans are adorable in the shop, but on an actual baby I prefer soft snuggly sleepsuits.

Yanbu. I think newborns only look cute in baby grows and dungarees at that age.

I love my 10 month old dd in babygrows, especially with a knitted cardy over it, so comfy and cute.

I tend to put her in babygrows when we are just having a day at home, and put her in leggings, soft dungarees etc when we go out somewhere. She does have a pair of jeans but they are the really soft, leggings type.

Babies should be dressed like babies, hate to see babies in black for some reason.

Just remembered, I hope this woman is a MNer as she is ace.

Stood outside Sainsburys a few days ago with DD and a very cute girl toddler walked past , we both did the head tilt and 'ah' thing as she was chattering away to her mum.

I hadn't paid much attention to her outfit, but noticed her wellies and then looked at the rest of the outfit....pink leggings, stripey jumper and refusing to put her coat on - understandable, she wanted to show off her pretty pink swimming costume that she was wearing over her clothes! Grin

I love determined toddlers!

To clarify. The mum is ace for not batting an eyelid at her toddler's fashion sense! Must preview posts!

Comfort all the way when it comes to my babies. I have spent literally hours trying to get the softest purest organic cotton babygros I can find for dc2. I don't give a hoot that they all tend to be in one colour, generally white. The crucial thing from my perspective is absolute comfort.

Having said that, each to their own!

I have dressed my baby in mostly babygrows since he was born. He is 12 weeks in ooooh, 49 minutes!

If I put an outfit on him, it is an all in one romper, soft dungarees, or leggings and a soft tshirt.

I never put 'adult' clothes on him, such as jeans, or a shirt.

Why? I just don't want to. He looks so cute in proper baby clothing! Plenty of time for growing up and wearing clothing more suited to children who are walking.

Not sure when I'll put jeans on him. I suspect not until he is walking, as even though the jeans are softer for babies, I still think they don't look comfy or practical for a crawler.

I have lots of gorgeous babygrows, and matching cardigans, blankets and hats. He always looks scrummy. To me. And is comfy. That is all that matters. :)

Holly-those who keep babies in sleep suits all day have a different perspective of appropriate dress!!

They're babies!!!

How can a babygro be inappropriate? There's some gorgeous babygros available to wear for daytime. Not just sleep wear.

Jeans are inappropriate for a two day old baby as was mentioned by the op.

And appropriate schropriatte. My baby's have always been warm, cosy and comfortable. Isn't that more important?

(I am narrow mindlessly assuming you have 1, maybe 2 dc)

What does number of children have to do with it?

Report
JustCallMeFish · 14/02/2013 23:27

And lol at the swimsuit Brian.

Our eldest used to love going out in his muscley spidey costume. Complete with mask and gloves.

And of course appropriate superhero walk and poses Wink

He's grown out of that now thoughHmm

I really don't get why it should be a problem for babies to be in a babygro all day. I used to change DS out of one babygro into another in the morning as he had usually widdled all down at least one leg in the night (skinny, long legged, wriggly baby) but then I don't get why it's such a big deal if adults go to the shop in their pyjamas, either.

Totally agree with Wildwaterfalls.

My DD came home in jeans at 5 days old and was dressed in 'proper' daytime clothes during the day from then on.

For me personally, it was not a conscious decision and I think a lot of it tied in with my suffering from PND. Even when I was really struggling to cope and still in my dressing gown at 3pm, DD was always washed & immaculately dressed.

Of course now that she's 8.6 I really miss the babygro days and keep buying her onesies!

YANBU jeans on babies totally inappropriate and more about the parents needs than the babies. They have the rest of their lives to wear grown up clothes so let them be comfy and snuggly for the first few months of their lives. Newborn in jeans - very sad.

My baby is also immaculately dressed. In a babygrow. I resent the implication that a baby in a babygrow is not.

Confused

Shall I link to some amazing day time babygrows?!

Report
TheDetective · 14/02/2013 23:50

My baby has these babygrows and wears the frog one in the day, and the other one day or night, though mostly day. With a gorgeous stripy block coloured cardi and matching blanket.
