To think that newborns don't look cute in jeans?

How judgey am I? I saw some photos of my cousins beautiful baby boy who was born yesterday morning. Wearing jeans and a lumberjack shirt. I know I sound old fashioned I just assumed they wore baby grows and things with poppers on for the first few weeks. Fire away. Smile

Not something I would do but its nothing I can be bothered to judge about.

Baby 'jeans' that I saw when DS was little weren't really jeans just soft material made to look like jeans.

Yanbu.. They can't be that comfy either..

Think you can get some that have fabric inside. Haven't seen many pairs like that though, maybe I'm shopping on wrong places :)

DS didn't wear jeans until he was 12mo old, they just looked wrong before them. I don't like seeing babies in jeans. Rompers all the way.

Personally I love newborns in soft, snuggly babygros. DS was in his until 4mo. If I have another baby I'll keep them in babygros until they start to crawl!!! Just so much easier.

I won't judge anybody else in what they chose to dress their baby in.

HOWEVER.....

I have a massive problem with jeans on babies as they look so uncomfortable.

I have received some clothes from a friend, her boy barely wore half the stuff - there are so many pairs of jeans/jean type trousers. I can't see my putting DS in them when he's born.

But then I am very, very, boring and like baby gro's and knitted cardis on tiny babies.

I can't comment really, DD was in a tutu aged 2 weeks that her over-excited godmum bought her Grin it was the only time she wore it Not exactly comfortable or practical!

DD is 1.1, and has her first pair of jeggings but even them Im a bit Hmm

DD2 was wearing "jeans" yesterday. Shes 12 weeks.

She was in sleepsuits for the first few weeks though.

I think YABU because its really not up to you what people dress their kids in.

Newborns look cute in everything

Jeans may not be your preference however.

The comfort thing is a bit of a red herring from my experience, they tend to be very soft and floppy

Jeans are about the only thing I would feel critical about simply because where there are a few layers they can get so thick, restrict their movement and rub their skin.
Like others I like children to be in age appropriate clothing but this isn't my child so what I like doesn't matter.
If this is the worst thing these parents do to their child he will be one of the lucky ones Smile

I don't think it looks cute either. It looks uncomfortable.

It can look cute on bigger babies though, as long as its not that stiff nasty denim.

Imagine coming from the warm moistness that is your mothers womb, where all you've felt is softness and warmth and being thrust into scrachy denim that won't allow your legs to curl as you'd like them and with a waistband that digs in...

Babygrows or onesies in this house. Till they're at least two...

Yabu. Ds has been in 'normal' clothes since the 2 week mark. The advice is that it helps babies differentiate between night and day. When I have my next dc, they will be in clothes during the day from the start. Just my opinion though!

I totally agree as well as everyone else, for the same reasons. I don't care if they're made with soft lining or nice comfy fabric - they look horrible. I saw a little boy of about 3 months old wearing the jeans/lumberjack ensemble the other day. He also had GELLED hair and a faux leather jacket on. shudder.

I dont have a problem with jeans but I hate seeing 'proper' shoes on babies..ones with hard soles.
My main pet hate is anything with attached ears and stupid dress up suits..like Santa and pumpkin outfits!!

We have random photos of dd when a newborn in various items of clothing, not because we thought they were good for babies but just because someone had given them as a gift and we thought it was polite to pop them on her and take a photo. Generally she only wore them for a few mins and then was straight back in the baby grows. I never realised people might think that she wore that stuff all the time and judge us terribly for it Confused

Babies don't tend to suffer in silence. If they are uncomfortable they have a habit if making it known. It's a different choice, that's all.

I love babies in babygros, they look so cuddly and cute. I used to take ds out in his all the way up to a year old, but I did get funny looks. He looks adorable when he's in one ready for bed.

Gelled hair - mil keeps telling me to gel 15 month ds's hair, hell no woman! That can wait for the awkward teen years Grin

Next do the fabric lined jeans which are really nice though

YABU. Newborns are cute no matter what they're wearing. YAB very judgey Grin It might not be your preference, it wasn't mine, but IME, tiny baby jeans are soft and floppy not stiff and hard and denim-y. And if the baby is hungry, it cries. If it's tired, it cries. If it's got colic and uncomfortable and in pain, it cries. If it's dressed uncomfortably, it ill cry. As it wasn't it was probably okay.
I do agree with you on one point though, YAB old fashioned Grin

Its not so much the denim aspect that I am not keen on, its the pulling and wrestling with the NB to get it changed!

Why!? I suppose on a special day out, otherwise its extra unneccasry work and poor baby being pulled and yanked into trousers?

Same here: waist bands don't work with a still attached umbilical stump!!! UGH! My baby's spent their first few months in plain white babygros (can be hot, hot washed and did boys & girls) and I'm pretty sure friends and in laws were disgusted at the lack of "effort". But I did also do what HearMyRoar did too - a thank you card with a photo of the outfit or part of the outfit on the baby - if clothes given were for very small babies and I could, I did exchange them for bigger sizes.

Skinnybitch - noooo! Stupid fancy dress outfits are amazing! Think of the fun you'll have showing the photos to your poor child when they're older!

I dressed ds up in a Santa outfit for his 1st Christmas when he was only two months - but it was a Santa babygro so obviously that's allowed Grin

My dc3 is 14 weeks and he's not worn anything but babygros yet. And I intend to keep it that way for a least another month or so.

Clothes are uncomfortable for babies.

If I could get away with wearing a onesie all day, every day, I would.

And you can have a better snuggle with a baby in a babygro. IMO.
