To dislike watching movies in 3D?

Why is it, that when I go to the cinema, most of the showings for films that I want to see, particularly with the dc, are in 3D?

I don't like wearing the glasses.
After about five minutes the 3D makes me feel dizzy and sick, and sometimes it gives me a visual migraine.
I think that obsession with special effects means that movies often now have a weaker story line.

Give me a normal 2D movie any time. So am I just an old gimmer that doesn't want to keep up with new technology, or is 3D a gimmicky fad, that will hopefully be restricted to a few imax films in the future?

You are not alone. The glasses hurt and the visual makes me feel sick. And it's more expensive.

And the cinema 3D or not is TOO LOUD.

3D telly has already failed twice. It never caught on. This may be yet another passing phase.

Oh I LOVE it. I act like a Victorian would if you showed them the internet, every single time - the novelty never wears off. I just can't believe the cleverness of it all. Life of Pi was amazing - best use of 3D I've ever experienced.

The glasses give me an awful headache, and I just don't see the point, but then I'm not a big film fan - I mean, I'll watch a film, but I'm not really interested in 3d or HD or surround sound and all that jazz

Not everyone can see in 3D.

Dh only has 2D vision, because of eye problems he had as a child. We don't watch 3D films because of that. Apparently about 10% of the population have problems seeing in 3D.

Is it possible that you've got underlying eye problems that mean you can't fully see in 3D?

Either way, I guess that the numbers of people who have problems viewing 3D mean that 2D media will continue to be available.

I deliberately didn't go and see Life of Pi because it was too difficult to get a 2D showing (I know I could have done if I tried hard). I wanted to see the film at a time that suited me, but it was not possible. I did manage to see the Hobbit in 2D. The cinema was packed with old misery guts like me . It was the only 2D showing that day.

Possibly I have eye problems, but I do see the 3D effects. I even quite like them for short films. I remember seeing my first imax film over 10 years ago, and I thought it was amazing. But it was only a 45 minute nature film, not a full length movie.

The first time I went to a 3d film I felt the same.

A new cinema opened where I live, and I can watch 3d there no problem.

I wonder if newer technology helps?

when i saw avatar in 3d both me and dp felt nauseous, but we tried again with life of pi and it was actually ok. less of a busy film.
i still prefer 2d though

I hate it - although I have got clip on 3D thingys to go over my glasses to see if that helps at all.

And while life of pi's opening sequence was fabulous in 3d, it really didn't follow through in the same way. The hobbit was better IMO because I could really appreciate the 3dness all the way through.

dd cant see 3D so we dont go to 3D films - saves a fortune!

Same here, but wearing the glasses doesn't bother me so much but I can't watch 3d, sickness, dizzy, and migraine. I feel rotten for days. So no more 3d for me.

DH and fil can't see in 3D, and it makes me feel funny tbh-I'm with the OP- 2d all the way!! I'm happy to be an old gimmer

Totally agree OP. Nausea, headache etc etc... It's vile. What the heck was wrong with 2D?
Or are they trying to get us to pretend a bit more that films are 'real life' ?

YANBU - I have only seen 1 film in 3D (Toy Story 3) and it made me feel really sick, similar feeling to travel sickness. Never again (whilst there is a choice)

YANBU! It's fine for a 15 minute film at Alton Towers, not for 3 hours of the Hobbit. The glasses are uncomfortable, and if the film is dull then having it in 3 does not make it more interesting!

I rarely go to the cinema as it's a sensory assault at the best of times - even in 2D. 3D is unbearable.

I went to the IMAX in Birmingham a couple of years ago. I sat with my eyes closed for 2andahalf hours. It was horrendous. It really reminded me of that scene out of A Clockwork Orange.

I couldn't walk out of the cinema afterwards, let alone walk down all the steps, without support and I hadn't even watched it.

Fresh I think it's because they assume we want to experience total immersion in the film. I don't.

I don't have eye problems either. I just don't want to be visually and auditorily punched in the head for a couple of hours

YANBU I haven't bothered going to see anything in 3D for over two years because the last time I did it was impossible to get the 3D glasses to sit properly on top of my normal glasses and it really ruined the film for me, I stick with 2D now.

I always go to the 2D films because I can't see 3D. I have one eye that works better than the other so will never be able to see it. It saves me a lot of money!

I dont see the big hooha about 3d either and it give mes fuzzy eyes and a headache and I cant see it properly either , DH bought a 3d telly waste of bloody money if you ask me, I go to the 2d showing of films dont waste your money

I once met up with friends at the cinema, everything we wanted to see was in 3D and we all wear glasses/get headaches etc.

We went to the pub!
