To think I have the best job on the Planet?

I am sooooo lucky to have the best job in the world.

Today I changed a mans life for the better just by cutting his toenails. Everyday I make people feel better by treating their feet but today had a man with MH problems and hadnt cut his toenail for over five years...... you can work it out by the length roughly.
He was in pain and had difficulty walking but 45 minutes later danced out of my room with a smile on his face. It gives me a bigger high than any drug could to see it.

WHy is your job the best?

Good for you! I think that's super.

Skinnywhippet · 05/02/2013 20:49

Glad you enjoyed that OP. can't say that would encourage me to get out of bed in the morning. Though, I know what you mean about having a relationship with people in your work and making a difference.

GreatGooglyMoogly · 05/02/2013 20:52

That's lovely City :). Ooh, could I ask you a question about toenails? DH and the DC all have toenails that grow in a curved shape back into their skin. I've heard that I'm meant to cut them in a V shape to stop them growing like that but I don't really understand how. Do you have any advice? Thanks!

PimpMyHippo · 05/02/2013 20:54

My job is the best because I get to see (and cuddle!) loads of lovely animals every day. Grin And I get to assist with surgery which never stops being fascinating.

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 05/02/2013 20:55

I know just what you mean City

I work in children's palliative care looking after children with life threatening and life limiting conditions, every day we make a difference to someone's life.

SamuelWestsMistress · 05/02/2013 20:55

Oh wow! What a feeling of satisfaction for both of you. How long were they? How was he even able to wear shoes? Poor man. I bet he'll remember you!

Binfullofmaggotsonth45 · 05/02/2013 20:56

You would give me immense joy if you came and sorted out my hooves City! I used to love a trip to the Chiropodist.

I think the elderly definitely appreciate healthy feet too, when mobility is impaired.

MechanicalTheatre · 05/02/2013 20:57

Wow OP, that's great.

Merle · 05/02/2013 20:58

are you in Bradford, OP? (off the point, I know), but exciting times Smile

specialsubject · 05/02/2013 21:42

I wondered why people took up chiropody - and now I know! Nice one, OP.

I've had an equally good job. If you make people happy then you will never be working, always having fun.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 05/02/2013 22:18

City I'm a Podiatrist too (NHS).
I would agree there's great job satisfaction but bloody hell, it grinds a person down too.Grin

The relentless paperwork
The keeping to appointment times (some patients seem to forget there's a roomful out in the waiting room)

And do you know what really boils my piss?
When I put a sign on my door- Please Don't Knock and they just blardy well open the door and walk in.
It's the height of rudeness! Since when does "Please do not knock- take a seat" mean just walk in Confused

But yes, it's a good job (but I wouldn;t say the best one)

fromparistoberlin · 05/02/2013 22:58

aww OP

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman . I dont know what to say. I am quite awestruck of people who do your job, really

Kyrptonite · 05/02/2013 23:02

Because I get to finger paint and play with play dough all day Grin

Also because I like knowing that I have made progress when I see my key children enhance their speech, start to make friends and generally develop awesome (mostly) personalities.

Angelfootprints · 06/02/2013 00:09

"Please do not knock- take a seat"

To be fair you could interpret that as " dont worry about knocking, please just come straight in to the room and sit down".

Maybe the reason?!

Geeklover · 06/02/2013 00:14

My dc's headmaster thinks he has the bestest job in the whole world.
He says it regularly and if I'm honest he acts like he means it.
He IS amazing tbf and in a school of nearly 300 there is not a child I've come across that doesn't like him.
I have had cause to work with another fab head and I don't know how he does what he does every day plus do all the crappy stuff and paperwork etc he has to do.

MortifiedAdams · 06/02/2013 00:15

I work in a Hotel and on Saturday we have a family coming to stay whos little boy will be eight on the day. Tomorrow evening I am popping out for a card and a cake and a little gift from the Hotel for him and I am soooo looking forward to.him checking in and seeing his presents - I know at eight I would have been beside myself at that Grin

I know im not saving a life or anything but still gives me a warm fuzzy glow.

LadyBeagleEyes · 06/02/2013 00:20

Wow Op, you sound lovely, you need to look at my feet, you sound so non judgemental and my feet are horrible.
Though I would love Pimpmyhippos job, I could easily cuddle animals for a living.
I bet it's not that simple though.

Punkatheart · 06/02/2013 08:17

Thank goodness there are people like you in the world.

You have a lovely soul (sole),

CityTiliDie · 06/02/2013 18:24

Hi. The big toe nails were about 6-7 cm long and the others were curled over his toe ends and digging into the flesh under his foot. He wore shoes three sizes too big and was sruggling to walk and this was contibuting to his MH problems, now he can get out of the house in comfort.

With curved nails it depends which way they curve. If they are curving over the end of the toe then this is often caused by wearing socks pulled up too high although can often be something they will grow out of. If they curve down the sides this is called an involuted nail and if often inherited so its your faut! Grin Some people think the V cut works and others (myself included) think it it an old wives tale that doesnt work. Without seeing the nails it is impossible to give much helpful advice so unless you live in the great city of HULL I cant be much more help.

Today I had a client with over 100 corns on each foot!!!!!

70isa you will hate me as I am a FHP!! was hpc reg chiropodist but resigned due to 'politics' and rumours of future ridiculous 'rules'. Now in private practice, very busy and loving every second of it.

Good for you. A gold star!

roadkillbunny · 06/02/2013 18:40

I was ready to say YABU as I have the best job in the world Grin!
I can't however compete with the fact you change people's lives, I get to mess about with horses and get paid to do my expensive hobby. I often marvel at how lucky I am to be able to do this and although I have had to amas a huge amount of knowledge and expirance to do the job I have enjoyed almost all of it. Changeing people's lives is not something I can do! I have the ability to change a horses life, to, when despritly needed provide stability and a loving, caring, knowledable home for life. It isn't part of my day to day work though, once offs so I am forward to admit that YANBU!

roughtyping · 06/02/2013 18:45

I love love love my job, I teach the most amazing class who are fab and an absolute joy :)

weaselm4 · 06/02/2013 18:53

I love my job too - messing about with lovely books and uniting pensioners and children alike with whatever they want to read!

Libraries rule!

LovesBeingWokenEveryNight · 06/02/2013 18:59

Wow love days that make you happy.

Lara2 · 06/02/2013 19:18

I love my job because I get to overhear things like this whilst passing the infant girls loo:
"But I have rainbow pants!!!". Love it!Grin
