To think I have the best job on the Planet?

I am sooooo lucky to have the best job in the world.

Today I changed a mans life for the better just by cutting his toenails. Everyday I make people feel better by treating their feet but today had a man with MH problems and hadnt cut his toenail for over five years...... you can work it out by the length roughly.
He was in pain and had difficulty walking but 45 minutes later danced out of my room with a smile on his face. It gives me a bigger high than any drug could to see it.

WHy is your job the best?

Can I ask a toenail related question please?

my ds has a slither of nail that grows straight up, at right angles to the rest of his nail. I have the cut the slither very short to stop it annoying him, but when it grows t simply grows back the same. What should I do?

Sorry, but it never seems worth a GP trip!

Thanks!

Ps, how lovely that you change lives. That must be a very nice feeling!

Next time the chiropodist comes to cut my toenails (which I can't reach), I will ask her if she thinks she has the best job in the world. She's always cheerful so I suspect she enjoys it as much as you do OP.

McNewPants2013 · 06/02/2013 19:43

I wish i had tha job satifaction feeling. Good on you OP for finding a job that is satifying

All i get is bad press

sherazade · 06/02/2013 19:55

love my job too.

Almost on a daily basis , one 4/5 year old from my reception class will randomly rush to hug me and then the whole class (of 22) want to join in shortly after which I'm being squeezed to death by the whole class. The children constantly say things like 'you're my bestest teacher/best friend/ number one teacher/ 'last number teacher' (?)/ I like you miss'. At this age they'll do anything to please and are so receptive.

Spent the day doing lots of singing, rhymes, dance, baking, stories, painting snowflakes /making paper snowflakes. There is glitter and sand everywhere at the end of the day and tired children and sometimes I feel as though I spend the whole day doing nothing but sweeping up sand in fact I joked to my TA that we could hire someone for this sole purpose but it's all worth it.

I am involved with adoptions, etc. My DD loves the notion that I help to find new mummies and daddies for children who can't live with their own families. I love it. I'd do it for nothing

skratta · 06/02/2013 20:08

YABU. I love my job so much!

Paediatric research oncologist, specialising in brain and spinal tumours. Every day I get to meet the bravest, loveliest children I could ever hope to meet and know I can help them and their families through the worst moments in anyone's lives. And knowing that I can be part of the cure.

YorkshireDeb · 06/02/2013 20:18

Wow - what an inspirational thread. I spend far too much time moaning about my job. But reading other people's comments has reminded me that there's a lot I love about it too. X

TaggieCampbellBlack · 06/02/2013 20:25

YABU.
Mine's the best.

And it makes people smile from here........................................................................to................................................................................here Grin.

HolidayArmadillo · 06/02/2013 20:25

I'm a midwife. On a good day there really is no job like it.

I do have manky feet though.

CityTiliDie · 07/02/2013 07:09

doitto two options on the 'straight up' slither.

  1. Keep trimming it like you are.
  2. talk to GP. some do minor nail surgery and will remove the offending slither permanently. Local anaesthetic all over in 10 mins.

I would happily do my job for free but my DW would complain at not being able to buy yet more shoes!! Wink

I bloody love chiropodists!

Never forget the time we were on holiday to Cornwall and I had a really painful in growing toenail. Dh had some sort of peeling on his feet. So we arranged a family outing to the chiropodist. I was really scared but he knew exactly where to cut the nail. It hurt for a split second then....instant relief. I could have kissed him! Dh had athletes foot.

The funniest bit was going to Boots afterwards to buy an eclectic mix of things: nappies, athletes foot cream and condoms Blush Bet that confused them!

GreatGooglyMoogly · 08/02/2013 07:13

Thanks City :). Their toenails curve over the ends of the toes and DS1 definitely pulls his socks on too high but neither DH or DS2 do so I'm surprised it's not genetic! Shame we don't live in Hull!

BlackholesAndRevelations · 08/02/2013 07:30

Even though I do teach and spend the day with a bunch of amazing six year olds, I do sometimes think I'd like to do something even more worthwhile... Like midwifery or something else medical.

googlenut · 08/02/2013 07:33

Love my job too! I'm a university researcher and am researching the disease that affects one of my children! Fantastic meeting other parents as well and having that immediate empathy.

AngryBeaver · 08/02/2013 07:38

So pleased for you city. How nice to love your job!
ahem, fungal toe nail...?!
Have tried EVERYTHING. Amnow on 50% bleach water mix, followed by manuka oil!
Would LOVE to have nice nails!

socharlottet · 08/02/2013 19:50

I though you were going to say you had a job in quality control at 'Ben and Jerrys'

ThePinkOcelot · 08/02/2013 20:57

I couldn't do your job for a million! I hate feet, couldnt touch other people's feet. Yuck! Good on you for doing it though x

skratta · 09/02/2013 18:11

I'll be waiting, MrsDeVere!

determinedma · 09/02/2013 18:41

I work in business support which sounds dull but is fascinating. I work with every kind of business under the sun from sole traders start ring out, to multi-million turnovers. I love meeting brilliant young entrepreneur with great ideas, and being able to help struggling small businesses to stay in business.

bedmonster · 10/02/2013 22:20

angrybeaver I have a fungal toenail infection too! It started on the tiny toenail and is spreading to the next one, bastard infection. Unfortunately I have a real foot issue so could never go to the gp or anyone really, which is a shame as my mum had a severe infection in all ten toenails and has been taking medication for about 4 months so far and its clearing up unbelievably well. So I know it would help. But just can't do it. So silly.
Op I really don't understand how you do.what you do, but its so lovely that you get as much out of it as your clients.

AngryBeaver · 11/02/2013 09:29

bedmonster..if you can't go tothe docs(you could just explain your foot issue, and ask for the pills? But they are damaging to the liver,so..) try this..50/50 water bleach mix, then either manuka, oil or tree tea.
Good luck, it's a fucker to clear.

pandaptogether · 11/02/2013 10:34

I love my job too, I am a florist and love it, although I know I wont get any flowers on valentines day
