. . . not seek any sort of medical help in case:

  1. they say there is nothing wrong with it
  2. they say there IS something wrong with it Shock
  3. they don't know if there is something wrong with it or not

it is difficult to combine being a bit hypochondriacal with a dislike of seeing doctors :(

YABU

Get yourself seen to lass Wine

Pourquoimoi · 28/01/2013 22:34

Yep YABU, I can't stand it when people moan about things but won't do anything about it. Get it checked out

WaterBiscuit · 28/01/2013 22:34

How/where does it hurt? Have you injured it?

gordyslovesheep · 28/01/2013 22:35

are you a) a man and b) my ex?

yabu - get thee to a Dr's

VinegarTits · 28/01/2013 22:35

could be rsi or carpel tunnel, if you dont seek help you wont know and will still be in pain

if you do seek help you will have piece of mind and maybe some drugs, id be tempted to seek help just for the drugs

OhIWishThereWasABook · 28/01/2013 22:37

Omg, separated at birth! Have a knee injury from last year. It's not better. I don't want to go back to specialist because a) i might need operation b)I won't need op and its permentantly shit.
No sympathy from anyone (too right)

ScarletLady02 · 28/01/2013 22:37

What gordy said...

Also, my DH is terrible for going to the Drs. He got hit by a van and didn't go to hospital...bell-end...

OhIWishThereWasABook · 28/01/2013 22:38

I'm a girl, girls can be chicken too!

sausagesandwich34 · 28/01/2013 22:39

once I slipped over putting the bins out

more embarassed than anything

a week later my aching wrist was in agony

-hmmmmm probably something to do with the fact it was broken!

get it seen to

Mitchy1nge · 28/01/2013 22:39

it's sort of ulnar, I think, probably just a sprain but is not really very swollen

think I did it when I was mucking out, not a very glamorous injury

but it seems to hurt too much to be a sprain, and have tried supporting and immobilising it and guzzling naproxen and resting it as far as possible but it Still Hurts

but sprains are painful aren't they?

OP posts:
VinegarTits · 28/01/2013 22:42

hair line fracture? torn ligament?

can you lift a full wine glass? if not then its very serious

Mitchy1nge · 28/01/2013 22:43

don't think it is carpal tunnel because it gets better overnight when it is in repose

do not want a doctor to poke it or bend it though Blush or send me to wait all day for an x-ray or something, just want it to magically go away via Reiki and NSAIDs

OP posts:
ScarletLady02 · 28/01/2013 22:43

They are VERY painful...

I sprained my ankle (playing frisbee when drunk....don't laugh) and it hurt SO badly I was in crutches for 6 weeks.

If you can move you fingers (each joint) it's unlikely to be broken (but I'm no dr). I've also sprained my wrist (but not as bad as my ankle) and a lot of the time the swelling can be internal, and hands/wrists are complex things with lots of ligaments etc. If Naproxen aren't doing anything, I'd say you need analgesics as well (codeine or similar).

Mitchy1nge · 28/01/2013 22:45

no I can't, I can't hold a drink! Which does seem a bit pathetic, but no, cannot hold cup of coffee either :(

luckily is left hand and am right handed

but is depressing how often you need to use your Other Hand isn't it? :(

OP posts:
ScarletLady02 · 28/01/2013 22:45

I was obviously ON crutches....not in them

andtheycalleditbunnylove · 28/01/2013 22:46

go.
my leg ached.
i found out a couple of years later it had been broken.
only a hairline fracture but i could have had eight weeks off work and i missed it!

ScarletLady02 · 28/01/2013 22:46

Does it feel better if supported? Tubigrip maybe?

WaterBiscuit · 28/01/2013 22:48

try this for me OP.
Make a fist with your thumb inside your fingers with the folded-in thumb upwards as if you were going to punch directly ahead of you.
Now try to angle that fist down towards the floor.
Does that hurt?

VinegarTits · 28/01/2013 22:49

seriously, sounds like you need it seeing too, it might not be as bad as you think, go to the drs tomorrow and report back to see if my diagnosis was right

Mitchy1nge · 28/01/2013 22:50

have been using vetwrap which is prob similar to tubigrip? It does make it a bit more comfortable

oh why am I so pathetic

there is not much to lose from taking it to a gp is there, just time?

OP posts:
Mitchy1nge · 28/01/2013 22:51

no that doesn't hurt water biscuit :)

presumably this is promising!

OP posts:
OhIWishThereWasABook · 28/01/2013 22:54

The gp will send you to a&e you know, might as well cut middleman. If it is broken, a plaster cast gives a lot of good support (stating obvious but I could do things with one on)

WaterBiscuit · 28/01/2013 22:55

Well it means it's not tendinitis. That hurts like buggery. See the GP, no point suffering at all. Prob v. easily diagnosed and treated.

ScarletLady02 · 28/01/2013 22:57

They might not...when I did my wrist they did a few range of movement tests (like WaterBiscuit mentioned) and said "it's a sprain, have some drugs and rest it". With my ankle though it was massively swollen and black so I had to have an x-ray.

Mitchy1nge · 28/01/2013 23:00

mmm drugs

maybe they will give me some nice ones, opiates?

ok ok, thanks, it is what I probably wanted to hear, if it is not better by tomorrow I will make an appointment
