I hate tattoos. Whilst I appreciate everyone has a right to their own taste and choices I still cannot get over the fact that people have them in places where they are visible.

A colleague of mine has just returned to work after M leave with a horrific tattoo from her wrist to her elbow. How can she go out and meet clients looking like that?? It can be seen through tops and obviously below short sleeved tops.

What I really don't like is seeing lovely brides on their wedding days, strapless dresses and tattoos on their upper arms and backs..... urgh!!!!!!

Anyone else with me??

Ooh I like!! They'd make fantastic tattoos!

AKissIsNotAContract · 28/01/2013 16:29

My latest one is a lace type pattern. I'm entering it into the Brighton tattoo convention competition in a few weeks.

HintofBream · 28/01/2013 16:29

Just out of interest, how much do tattoos cost? I realise it is a bit of a "how long is a piece of string?" question, but could anyone give me some examples? (in case I feel compelled to succumb)

ditavonteesed · 28/01/2013 16:29

a kiss, any chance of a photo?

ConfuzzledMummy · 28/01/2013 16:31

Of course your being unreasonable! I can't believe you've actually wasted your time posting this bullshit on here. Hmm

WhoeverHeardOfAWormskinRug · 28/01/2013 16:32

The thing is, anyone is entitled to hold whatever opinion they want. What got my back up were comments like:

"especially women" and "...urgh"

D I love your ink Smile

I've put a picture of one of mine on my profile. Judge away judgy-judgersons from Judgington Ilinois.

McKayz · 28/01/2013 16:33

Dita, I love your flamingo!!

Those skulls are very nice.

I am tempted by an anchor type tattoo. I love anchor designs as DH works at sea.

Arthurfowlersallotment · 28/01/2013 16:37

Sure, YANBU to judge. You can judge my tattoo, just as I could probably find fault with your appearance if I took the time.

ditavonteesed · 28/01/2013 16:37

whoever, i'll judge you, why do you have a tattoo of me, I mean I know i'm great but still its almost photgraphic Wink, very cool by the way.
McKayz I love old school anchor tattoos and if you have an actual connection to the sea that would be great. girly scroll down its is blue with flowers would look lovely.

Hullygully · 28/01/2013 16:39

I like them when they are very old and faded blue and faded into the skin around them so that they are completely nondescript.

A young lady I know had her son's name tattooed across her bosom and I can think of nothing but th epain when I see it.

Hullygully · 28/01/2013 16:40

I like the skull and anchor that is a lie

McKayz · 28/01/2013 16:42

Thanks Dita, they are great.

funkybuddah · 28/01/2013 16:46

Something Dita said in a previous post about not liking one of hers but wouldnt change it ( i think it was her lol) reminds me of a line in a song

'If we have the luck to live our lives a second time through we'll be sure to get the same tattoos'

Similar in what was said about it being a part of life at a certain time etc.

TattooEnvy · 28/01/2013 16:46

I have lots of tattoos.

I have lots of piercings.

And I don't give a tiny rats arse what anyone else thinks because I loves them!

I have massive tattoo envy at the moment (hence the new nickname) and I only got one 6 months ago and a new piercing on Friday..

I do think they are addictive.

JustAHolyFool · 28/01/2013 16:52

I really don't like them, I think they are naff beyond reason, but I couldn't care less if anyone else has them.

Not sure if I'd go out with someone that had one, though.

HighJinx · 28/01/2013 16:52

Those of you with tattoos, do you design them yourselves or get them drawn by artist freehand or are they from a sort of catalogue?

I saw a woman on TV recently and she was saying that her tattoos were almost like a scrapbook of her life so that when she is old she can look back and remember certain phases etc through the tattoos she has. I thought that sounded lovely.

ditavonteesed · 28/01/2013 16:55

highjinx, you kind of talk to the tattooist about what you have in mind and they draw a few things up for you to look at, so half and half really, my flamingo I just had an idea that I wanted it to look like the really tacky plastic flamingos you get in vegas. tattooists (decent ones) are artists and they want to put their own spin on your ideas.

StuntGirl · 28/01/2013 16:56

Price wise varies wildly bream. More expensive doesn't necessarily mean better but the phrase "You get what you pay for" certainly holds true for the most part.

I am currently saving for a half sleeve, it's going to cost a few hundred to start with and will grow from there as I add to it.

Locketjuice · 28/01/2013 16:56

YABU... And rude & narrow minded

ditavonteesed · 28/01/2013 16:57

anyone else just hanging round this thread in the hope of seeing other peoples tats and ideas?

WhoeverHeardOfAWormskinRug · 28/01/2013 16:57

I love that this thread has become about sharing tattoo pictures! Smile mine were hand-drawn, but obviously the one on my arm is based on Jessica Rabbit... my personal idol! I always wanted red hair as a youngun. D I am super jealous of your hair, always have been! Grin

Oof, men with tattoos and piercings - there is nothing nicer! DP has many, of both!

StuntGirl · 28/01/2013 16:58

I sort of agree wormskin but with one caveat - men with good tattoos. I am v. much a snob when it comes to tattoos Blush

Just reading this and laughing.

I have two tattoos.
I have my nails done.
I adore my Uggs.

AKissIsNotAContract · 28/01/2013 17:14

Dita: I'll PM you a pic later.

My most recent one is costing £80 per hour, which is quite high but then the artist I go to is incredible.
