To be a bit annoyed at this dog walker

I live close to a forest and lots of people walk down our road to take their dogs for a walk. This morning, I was walking on my street, pushing a double buggy, and a dog walker was coming the other way with 5 smallish dogs, all on leads. No problem there, so far...

The dog walker of her own free will decided to get off the pavement and walk around me as there was not enough space for a double buggy and 5 dogs to be on the pavement side by side - the only thing is, as she passed me, she said in a very cross voice 'THANK YOU!' ermmm so I turned around and said why should I say thank you? It's you who's got five dogs?' She was clearly upset and mumbled something which I didn't get, anyway I just walked away. Should I have said thank you, really? Did she really expect me to get off the pavement because she had dogs? Was I being rude?

I would have said thank you if someone moved off the pavement for me tbh.

SantasComingFace · 03/01/2013 17:02

Common curtesy is to say thanks though. She was being PA and snooty.

WorraLiberty · 03/01/2013 17:02

Well neither of you own the pavement and you both have every right to be on it.

So I suppose as she decided to walk round, a quick 'thank you' would have been appropriate.

boysarelikehogs · 03/01/2013 17:02

Yes you should have, of course.

Shakirasma · 03/01/2013 17:02

YABU, it's basic manners to thank her for her courtesy.

CalamityKate · 03/01/2013 17:02

She probably didn't expect you to get off the pavement but was making the point that it would have been courteous of you to have acknowledged her moving out of your way.

Neither of you had more right to the pavement than the other.

MissyMooandherBeaverofSteel · 03/01/2013 17:03

YABU and rude.

Nixea · 03/01/2013 17:03

I would have automatically said thank you in this situation, just because it's nice that someone took a moment to do a kind thing. I think not doing so is actually a little rude. Pushchairs don't have right of way over dogs so they did you a favour.

phantomnamechanger · 03/01/2013 17:04

Wow, you were so rude!
it matters not whether the other person should/could move more easily than you, or who in your opinion has more right to expect to be given way to, someone moved for your convenience and you did not even smile and say thank you !! rude rude rude!

or hang on, is this a reverse op??

rogersmellyonthetelly · 03/01/2013 17:04

Why did you assume that you took priority? You both have a right to use the pavement. A little courtesy goes a long way.

atacareercrossroads · 03/01/2013 17:05

Ywbr (you were being rude)

rainbowinthesky · 03/01/2013 17:05

I think this is reverse op.

HazleNutt · 03/01/2013 17:05

why do you think you had more right to be on the pavement than her?

flowerytaleofNewYork · 03/01/2013 17:05

Wouldn't occur to me not to thank someone who moved out of the way for me and I don't blame her at all, you were rude.

MaxPepsi · 03/01/2013 17:05

YABU

Of course you should have said thank you.

She moved out of your way, she didn't have to.

What would you have done if someone did the same but without dogs?

EuroShagmore · 03/01/2013 17:05

Why do you think you had more right to the pavement than her? She was considerate. You should have thanked her.

WorraLiberty · 03/01/2013 17:06

Oh please don't let it be a reverse AIBU

I fucking hate them

LouisWalshsChristmasCloset · 03/01/2013 17:06

I would of said thank you tbh. Its not the law but its just manners. Allthough i dont understand peope who think they are owed thanks.

LouisWalshsChristmasCloset · 03/01/2013 17:06

Oh and yabu

Pagwatch · 03/01/2013 17:07

You should have thanked her. She moved for you.

LadySybilPussPolham · 03/01/2013 17:08

I think YWBU. It's probably harder manoeuvring 5 digs on leads than a double buggy!

Fairylea · 03/01/2013 17:08

Why didn't you just say thank you?

I don't think she expected you to move.

MrsChristmasBungle · 03/01/2013 17:08

YABU. You both have a right to be on the pavement. She was polite and moved, you should have been polite and said thank you.

LadySybilPussPolham · 03/01/2013 17:08

Or dogs even

phantomnamechanger · 03/01/2013 17:08

worra - I only called reverse OP cos I can't beleive the OP could be so rude not to thank someone in this situation.

maybe she is someone who does not reply to invites or write thank you letters either LOL

manners costs nothing and make the world a nicer place
