To be a bit annoyed at this dog walker

I live close to a forest and lots of people walk down our road to take their dogs for a walk. This morning, I was walking on my street, pushing a double buggy, and a dog walker was coming the other way with 5 smallish dogs, all on leads. No problem there, so far...

The dog walker of her own free will decided to get off the pavement and walk around me as there was not enough space for a double buggy and 5 dogs to be on the pavement side by side - the only thing is, as she passed me, she said in a very cross voice 'THANK YOU!' ermmm so I turned around and said why should I say thank you? It's you who's got five dogs?' She was clearly upset and mumbled something which I didn't get, anyway I just walked away. Should I have said thank you, really? Did she really expect me to get off the pavement because she had dogs? Was I being rude?

YANBU most of us navigate our way along footpaths without having to say thank you every other minute.

Sometimes I do and common courtesy is a virtue but there is a limit.
Is she the village "Thank you" monitor or something ?

RyleDup · 04/01/2013 23:35

Just basic manners cumfy.

op yabu. I push a double buggy and a border colie twice a day. I regularly move out of the way/ wait for people and say thanks if they move for me. Its polite. Same if you're in car etc no matter who has the double buggy/the dog(s)/the bigger car/the less time.

AlbertoFrog · 04/01/2013 23:41

I don't agree cumfy

Most people I know have manners.

OP perhaps you should get some.

cumfy · 04/01/2013 23:52

Everyday I dodge on and off of pavements around people dozens of times.

I get thanked 5-10% of the time.

This is abnormal ? Hmm

AlbertoFrog · 05/01/2013 00:01

It's abnormal in the small village where I live but thinking about it, when I have cause to pop into the nearest large town the High Street can be pretty uncouth Xmas Grin

RyleDup · 05/01/2013 00:06

Depends cumfy. In a busy town or city, no, not possible. Or even on a footpath In the countryside where there is a vast amount of people passing eachother, probably not possible.

In the situation the op describes, then yes, entirely possible and completely expected for her to say thank you.
