to be completely freaked out that the little ratbags have given me NITS!

DS1 was scratching yesterday and I combed to find the little ratbag darling was completely infested. AAaaaaaargh! I've combed and we will be hitting boots today to napalm the little shits. I've combed both DH and me and we both had a couple too.......

I AM UNCLEAN!!! (well I know they like clean hair, but still I AM UNCLEAN!!!)

DS2 and DD are both nit free so far, but I'll treat them too - oh that'll be fun - DD is 12 months is it ok to use Hedrin/Full Marks? I'll be conditioner/combing every couple of nights for a month to be sure I've got them all.

UNCLEAN!

I was told you should only treat if a live lice is found otherwise they can build a resistance to the solution.

Hedrin is fine for littles. And lice can't develop resistance to it. Welcome to the world of school age children!

I may just shave their heads... and DH's.... at least then I'd only have to comb myself!

Oh, I am so fed up with nits. They just will NOT go away. I am sick of scratching, and seeing my DDs scratch. Does not matter how often I 'napalm' them, wet comb with conditioner, use nittygritty/repellant etc. THEY WILL NOT GO!!!! Little beasts.

I'm going to use Hedrin or Full Marks and do this combing program too - and get their hair cut a bit shorter. DD is still wispy baby hair so it should be easy to do her. Counts for fuck all though if whoever gave them to him at school hasn't been treated though eh?

Zelda- they can and do develop immunity to the insecticides that kill them by poisoning. They can't to the things that kill them by suffocation or dehydration, like Hedrin.

Just get some conditioner and a nit comb. The stuff from the pharmacy is more expensive and never is any better.

It was just a infant school thing for us..

I've started itching just reading this! Yes, we've had worms but not nits yet - that joy all to come.

I don't wish to alarm you but I had them FIVE TIMES when I was little.

Get thee a Nitty Gritty comb and coconut oil (IIRC this suffocates the lice?) One of the few joys of having teens is that we no longer battle with nits!

I was told to use tea tree shampoo, then condition and comb. I found the condition and comb worked well. My hairdresser also told me to get spray in conditioner and that was also effective.

Yabu with regard to your reaction though. My Mum massively over reacted when I had them and it freaked me out so much I was hysterical.

It is a myth that headlice only like clean hair ... And has little to do with personal hygiene when exposed to an infestation at a school or playgroup

Conditioner and nit comb is best for littlies tbh. Dd had them once aged 4, I now use the vosene anti nit shampoo and their tea tree detangler spray. She has her hair plaited for school. I may just have been lucky but we haven't had them since. Ds had eggs once in his hair, but nothing live. I nit combed him 3x a week for 3 weeks and never saw anything else. He has the vosene shampoo and hasn't had anything since then. I still check several times a week and get the comb and conditioner out if I see them scratching

You have my sympathy though, when I saw them crawling in dds hair I ran screaming from the room, felt like painting a red cross on my door and ringing the bell.
