DS1 was scratching yesterday and I combed to find the little ratbag darling was completely infested. AAaaaaaargh! I've combed and we will be hitting boots today to napalm the little shits. I've combed both DH and me and we both had a couple too.......

I AM UNCLEAN!!! (well I know they like clean hair, but still I AM UNCLEAN!!!)

DS2 and DD are both nit free so far, but I'll treat them too - oh that'll be fun - DD is 12 months is it ok to use Hedrin/Full Marks? I'll be conditioner/combing every couple of nights for a month to be sure I've got them all.

UNCLEAN!

stop fretting, don't buy the chemicals, keep combing.

insancerre · 03/01/2013 09:29

Do the combing method and get some teatree oil. Add a few drops to the final rinse when you wash their hair and wash all brushes and combs in the water too.
A headlice check sould be done every week after you get rid of the blighters. After you have washed their hair apply lots of conditioner and comb through every bit of their hair, from root to tip, working in sections with a nit comb. It is the only way to stay nit-free. I used to sit them in front of a dvd to do it.

MsNobodyAgain · 03/01/2013 10:13

I couldn't touch my DD when she first got nits. That sounds awful but I was appalled. You get used to it though. Nits, worms, etc. It's just part of growing up.

Don't waste your money on the chemicals. Wet comb with conditioner. Then when free of it all use Tea Tree shampoo and conditioner or the Vosene stuff.

weegiemum · 03/01/2013 10:17

I wet comb my kids every week and I always find something on dd2, I'm convinced there's someone in her class who isn't being checked, because over the holidays there's nothing.

Tea tree spritz, plaited long hair and a nitty gritty comb are your friends.

DontHaveAtv · 03/01/2013 10:19

I wet comb my children's hair once a week with a nit comb to keep the nits away. it's a major pain in the arse but the only way to keep them away.

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 03/01/2013 10:21

We've never had nits but we have had the wurrums numerous times. Wurrums are easier to deal with though Grin unless they migrate to become FANJO WURRUMS Shock

I do hope you swatted the little bugger Euphemia - that's a bit familiar tbh - do these wurrums have no manners? Hmm Grin

LiegeAndLief · 03/01/2013 10:30

I think you might be over reacting a touch!

Mine have got hem at the moment. I've treated and we're combing like mad but I keep finding them on dd, I think there must be loads of eggs that keep hatching.

They don't carry diseases, they don't jump, fly, or survive for long off the head. Apparently lots of people don't even itch. It's only because they're big enough to see that people worry about them. Just think about those tiny mites that live on your eyelashes! Or eyebrows...

Viviennemary · 03/01/2013 10:34

I do like this new word botgubg.

NoobytheWaspSlayer · 03/01/2013 12:48

Fanjo wurrums and eyebrow mites?????!!!! Have mercy!

Oh botgubg.....

I have been to boots! Hurray for minor ailments as they have provided me with two bottles of Hedrin for free, and I got a nitty gritty comb and a bumper bottle of conditioner.

Much thanks for all advice

I think you're getting a bit of a rough ride from some posters, my DC's gave me nits too and I freaked, even with an entire roomful of grips!! Never had the worms though, DD got them after a weekend at a festival, but I think we just got lucky..

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 03/01/2013 12:57

My boys have short hair - so far so good

However worms on the other hand - oh the happy memories of sending DH to the late night pharmacy for a family pack of Ovex Confused.

TheCatIsEatingIt · 04/01/2013 15:13

I had them pretty well constantly until I was 21! First I was a kid, then I helped with Brownies, then I had a BF who often babysat for his little niece and nephew. he also gave me crabs, but that's another chapter of the tea-tree story

TheCatIsEatingIt · 04/01/2013 15:14

I should clarify that the nits came from the DNs, not from him! I missed those kids almost as much as him when we broke up.
