No baby change facilities at a family friendly pub!

A John Barras pub in Kent, we went there the other day and they didn't have any baby change facilities at all and we had to change our DD in the car in the car park in the freezing cold :(
I have emailed them today, surely it's not too much trouble to have one of those pull down baby change things!

Also I didn't see a disabled/accessible toilet either, which would normally double up as a baby change.

AIBU to expect such a thing?!

Did you ask them or as you couldnt see one just assume they didnt have it.

I am amazed any large chain of pub wouldn't have a disabled loo so maybe they did have one somewhere??

Changing a nappy in the back of a car won't do any harm.

I tend to class family friendly as having high chairs, childrens menu and generally being accepting of children.

I asked the duty manager about baby change and he just said no sorry!

Did you ask ? There would have been a toilet accessible to disabled somewhere.

Does nobody change a nappy on their lap anymore? I used to find that the easiest way to do it, from newborn to toddler.
I'd far rather nip out to the car and do that than use these (generally not very clean) pull down things

I always have a fold up change mat in my bag so I can change my DC on the floor. I've often done it in the sink area of the ladies loos if there isn't a change table. Not perfect but warmer than outside and somewhere to wash your hands afterwards.

Put the changing mat (the foldy one that comes in most changing bags) on the floor in the ladies toilet. Bit of a faff but possibly better than having to lug everything out to the car?

seriously you wouldn't have wanted a nappy like that anywhere near you, it wasn't just wet! And it had leaked, so we had to change her in the car on a freezing cold december day.

Anyway I am quite capable of improvising how and where to change her, I just thought it a bit odd that a pub didn't have a changing area. Or a disabled toilet.

I have a lap, cannot change a wriggly 8 month old baby on it however.

It is very odd that they didn't have a baby change or disabled. Are they not required to have a disabled loo?

You don't know they didn't have a disabled toilet though. Perhaps they just kept the disabled toilet as a disabled toilet rather than using it for baby changing, or perhaps the normal toilets had bigger cubicles which were acceptable.

I have managed to have 4 children and never use a baby change unit, they seem a bit unhygienic to me, its not really a big deal.

I'm not getting this horror of being in cars on freezing cold days either. Uh, you're in a car, whipping a nappy off and putting a clean one on. No one's forcing babies to parade naked around the car park in an icy gale for hours.

Seriously, put a foldaway mat down on the floor of the ladies (or mens!) loos.

This change on your lap thing always fascinates me. I'm weeny. 11mo is bigger than my lap, head would be hanging to the floor and poo would all over my top. Surely I can't be the only person who can't change a nappy on their lap?

OP, I'm with you. I'd be disappointed in a pub that seemed family friendly that didn't have baby changing - particularly because that probably means they don't have an accessible toilet either, as the two double up.

I wouldn't even attempt to change one of DS's monster poos on my lap. Have no desire to be covered in shit.

I would change him in the car boot or on the floor, seems perfectly reasonable.

I can't change a nappy on my lap, I have still always managed to change nappies at places with no baby change.

Do people only go to places with a baby change facility now?

I have often taken my buggy into the baby change room, but then changed on the buggy with change bag mat under instead of on the change table thing cause those pull down thingies are usually grim!
