You are clearly not Sharon, and YADNBU. Grin

Toomuchturkeyatendofthedinner · 28/12/2012 20:05

Yanbu, I would not be comfortable with this either.

MonaLotte · 28/12/2012 20:09

YANBU that is very strange and I wouldn't like it either.

Hulababy · 28/12/2012 20:13

I am pretty relaxed about most things, even photos/videos which may have my child on/nearby. As someone who takes a lot of photos I understand how some may get on there when focusing on my own dd, family, friends, general landscapes etc.

However still wouldn't be happy with someone actually focusing on my child on purpose to take a photo or video, and would have tried to prevent it or say something in such a situation.

So no, I think YANBU

Boomerwang · 28/12/2012 20:17

I wouldn't be happy about it, but it is legal to film someone in a public place. Think of all the reality shows like road wars etc.

KobayashiMaru · 28/12/2012 20:18

You couldn't make her delete it though, and neither could the shop manager. It's not illegal to film anyone in a public place.

catwomanlikesmeatballs · 28/12/2012 20:20

yanbu, she was being obnoxious in invading your privacy like that and seriously creepy. I wouldn't let anyone get away with doing that to my child.

bluebiscuit · 28/12/2012 20:21

Yanbu. Weird woman filming your dc.

wisemanscamel · 28/12/2012 20:29

Unless yours really were far cuter than hers and made for a more lovely video to send to grandparents etc. Were hers wrestling on the floor at the time, while yours queued nicely? Xmas Smile

lunar1 · 28/12/2012 21:11

Well obviously mine were far cuter wiseman and impeccably behaved Wink. I don't think it would fool the grandparents though, hers were a different colour to mine and one of hers was a girl!

If anyone is going to make money out of my boys on reality tv it really ought to be meGrin.

cees · 28/12/2012 21:18

YANBU

I'll watch out for them 'you've been framed' Xmas Grin

cees · 28/12/2012 21:18

'on'

ChristmasSpiritEndorphins · 28/12/2012 21:21

Yanbu!

lovelyladuree · 28/12/2012 22:33

We are filmed by CCTV in every public place and shop we enter. This footage is viewed by strangers and kept on file for 28 days by law. You have the right to request to see all of the footage which includes you and your children. I think you may have found yourself a new hobby.

lunar1 · 29/12/2012 10:25

Lovely I completely see your point, but I have no objection to CCTV, the difference is it applies to everyone. The CCTV recordings are a part of every day life and that is fine by me.

I think an individual choosing to film my children is a completely different thing. Why did she single out my boys? Is she just odd and goes round doing this all the time or does she just have no clue about personal boundaries? Do you not see this as being different to generic CCTV?

OP posts:
Alisvolatpropiis · 29/12/2012 10:33

YANBU.

That's just really really odd.And it's not really the same as being filmed on CCTV either.

The woman probably didn't mean anything by it,but nonetheless it was odd behaviour.

I was expecting you to say your children had happened to be sitting at the same table as hers or something similar (and a bit precious) I wasn't expecting to read that she was only filming your children!

Binfullofgibletsonthe26th · 29/12/2012 10:35

I'm sorry, did everyone miss Wizards Tales of the Unexpected post...

Xmas Grin

Or am I the only one old enough to get it. Xmas Sad

Binfullofgibletsonthe26th · 29/12/2012 10:37

Oh and YANBU op.

What was she going to do with the video? I'd have been curious to ask her.....

FellowshipOfFestiveFellows · 29/12/2012 10:40

YDNBU

What get's me, you had the Dad who was near on arrested and verbally abused by security guards at a shopping centre for taking a camera phone snap of his dd having a milkshake, he ended up starting a campaign against the shopping centre about it. The Centre's excuse was that camera and camera phones are banned in their centre.

Then the OP gets some nutjob acting like its no big deal to be filming the OP's dcs. Totally out of order, I would have phoned 101 when I got home, frankly.

badtime · 29/12/2012 10:45

A shop is not a public place, legally it is private. They will always have signs up saying that they have CCTV and that by shopping there you give your consent to be filmed (not always very obvious signs, mind).
She probably (I'm not sure about this) technically needed permission from the shop manager to film anything there (although obviously this would seldom be enforced in any way), so I think the shop manager could require her to delete it.

Also, the woman was weird; I hate (personal) space invaders; YANBU.

picketywick · 29/12/2012 11:56

She should have asked permission. Giving you the chance to refuse.

SantaFlashesHisBoobsALot · 29/12/2012 12:03

How very odd...

Serenitysutton · 29/12/2012 12:03

Agree it's not a public place, it's private property. Did she give any explanation? I know she said they were cute but filming them indicates she wanted to relive their cuteness... Did she seem rational to you? I'd love to know what she wanted it for (of course she might just be a weirdo who collects footage of kids, but that's also weird)

SoleSource · 29/12/2012 12:17

Her children were a different colour???

KobayashiMaru · 29/12/2012 12:18

A shop counts as a public place for almost all legislation, and certainly in this instance.
