To Be Annoyed about this (Poss SN) Childs Behaviour

Ok so we went to The Panto last night which wasn't a cheap night out with the tickets costing £100 + for 4 of us.

We were sat 4 seats in with a family of 4 occupying the end 4.

The Father of other the family preceded to lift his DS aged about 10/11 over the seats (spare) to the row in front so he could get a better view and was now sat directly in front of my DP.

This child then spent the entire performance jumping up and down on the seat in front, shouting loudly for sweets, flapping arms, banding his head with his shoes which he'd taken off and generally distracting everyone around him. To give the father credit he did repeatedly tell the child to shut up /sit down and threaten him etc.

Although My experience of ASD is quite limited, I'm assuming the boy was on the Autistic spectrum and although the panto is a family performance and I expect to be disturbed by kids needing a wee, rustling sweets etc AIBU to be pissed off with our evening be ruined especially seeing the boy could have been seated on the end of the aisle where he would have disturbed others less ?

wow I see the disablist (yes fuck it that is a word) are out.
wish they were the ones we could ban from public places

ScramblyEgg · 29/12/2012 21:42

How ironic that people with autism are always accused of having no empathy, when so many neurotypicals seem incapable of empathising with anyone who isn't exactly the same as them.

MargeySimpson · 29/12/2012 21:42

not staring was an option? what the hell glitter????? he was sat directly infront of her, ruining the play! it wasn't like he was in a supermarted or something

Glitterknickaz · 29/12/2012 21:42

Oh of course, Margey. £100 to this boy's family would be NOTHING after all, what with all the free money.

I very much doubt the whole evening was spoiled tbh. Such an objective thing.

threesocksfullofchocs · 29/12/2012 21:43

wow another one

Glitterknickaz · 29/12/2012 21:43

What's wrong with that?
If the nasty defective offends you don't look!

ScramblyEgg · 29/12/2012 21:43

Margey, it wasn't a play, it was a PANTOMIME.

I think the term 'pantomine' covers a broad set of performances. One at a school or local hall is a lot different to the ones in london that my grandparents used to take me to as a child which were quite formal!

Well that was an epic read.

I see the same few posters are here having to 'educate' and defend the rights of those with sn's.

The op has of course vanished as always seems to be the case with these threads Hmm

Its quite simple really, the boy in question has sn that mean he cant control his behaviour so yes we make allowances for that, not hard to have a bit of empathy and compassion you would think?

kungfu basically what you have said numerous times, people need to be more tolerant.

FreudiansSlipper · 29/12/2012 21:49

because a one year old would not enjoy a pantomime

a child of 10 who happens to have sn might very much like nearly all children do

threesocksfullofchocs · 29/12/2012 21:51

oh dear MS get over yourself.
I have taken my dd to big and small pantomimes. with no problem
the only problem I find are the bigots on here

FreudiansSlipper · 29/12/2012 21:54

these threads and there have been too many of them MN!!!! are the most upsetting of all the crap you get on here. I do not have a child with sn, I cry reading some of the comments I have no idea how you must feel starfish

MargeySimpson · 29/12/2012 21:54

i think my one year old would love a pantomine actually slipper. He loves songs and colours and costumes (well he's 19months). But I also know he'd cry, not like it too loud too many people etc. That's not really my point anyway and I can see how that can be interpreted as offensive.

FreudiansSlipper · 29/12/2012 21:59

and so do most children past toddler stage

maybe you will take your child when he is older so he can enjoy the experience you did when you were a child maybe other parents will want to do the same thing because we all like to see our children happy

5madthings · 29/12/2012 22:01

Exactly freud i do not have a child with sn's either but these threads are depressing and some of the posts heartbreaking :(

Children with sn's are people and they have the same rights as any nt person to live life! but still people think they shouldnt go to some places incase they disturb or offend others. Seriously just chuck.them back in the workhouse where they cant be seen.... That is the undercurrent and its fucking disgusting Angry
