To think a baileys dessert from iceland isn't suitable for xmas day and a bit cheeky actually

I'm cooking dinner tomorrow. One of us is assigned to buy veg, the other meat and the other pudding. So iv'e got a mahoosive chicken,a joint of ham and stuffing, t'other guest has bought carrots potatoes parsnips sprouts broccoli and sauces. So far so good. I phoned the pudding offender last night to find out what scrummy dessert we will be having on xmas day, and this is what she has bought.

It's dome a shaped cake/ice cream thing looks like a panna cotta on the outside and a gateau thing on the inside for 3 quid.
AIBU to think when someone has gone to the trouble of buying naice food and will spend ages preparing and cooking it, the least you could do is buy a naice pudding to go with it.
AIBU to feel a little resentful that they haven't even spent a quarter of what I have and the only prep they have to do is take it out the freezer a couple of hours before?

Am I being the ungrateful one or is she? Merry Christmas Xmas Smile

God, last year I took Bailey's profiteroles to my parents for one of the desserts.

They were absolutely delicious.

I bought them in Tesco - is that worse or better

RosemaryandThyme · 24/12/2012 16:40

I take it this is a wind-up.

No one could be so dim as to totally miss the point of christmas - and then to garner opinion on their ignorance surely.

mummytowillow · 24/12/2012 16:45

Were having the Baileys profitrole pudding from same place and i can't wait!

nkf · 24/12/2012 16:50

If you are doing dinner and delegating, then tell people what you want. It's a big high handed to my way of thinking but better than getting your knickers in a twist about their choice. If it's everyone chips in with whatever they think good, then stop fretting. For what it's worth, I think a chicken and a ham is a bit everyday but then I'm not invited.

Do shops other than Waitrose sell Smarties Penguin ice cream?

Nearest Waitrose to me is an hours drive away and teeny tiny.

Sparklingbrook · 24/12/2012 17:05

I am going to hunt one out for New Year's Eve Purple. Grin

Classic first world Christmas day problem if you ask me !

Where's your Christmas spirit huh ?!

Read "A Christmas carol" by Dickens and see how they all praised their very small goose to share between 10 !

Christmas dinner should be a joyful celebration with family and friends, sharing together in a spirit of thankfulness that we are through the darkest days of winter and/or whatever else your Christmas and Yuletide celebrations mean to you.

Not about whether a £3 pudding from Iceland is an inadequate contribution.

Sounds rather good to me, and at least as nice as a Christmas pud.

And a very Happy Christmas to you all Xmas Smile

Iamsparklyknickers · 24/12/2012 17:54

Goose is rank Xmas Envy

Why would It be a wind up Confused My imagination could think of a far better dilemma than an xmas pud issue

Jingleallthejay · 24/12/2012 18:12

oh good lord it isn't a wind up posh people are weird Confused

Clary · 24/12/2012 18:14

OP I haven't read the whole thread but you seem to getting it in the neck a bit so can I just say I would never take that as my contribution to Chr dinner of the type you are suggesting.

I am sure it is nice (well I don't like Baileys so maybe not) but if someone else was doing the meat I would make sure I made something home made and maybe took some cheese as well.

But maybe she is not a great cook or has no money? Dunno but I do see where you are coming from.

happyinherts · 24/12/2012 18:17

If I was the person who had bought the Bailey's dessert and happened to stumble upon this thread i would be very upset.

Some people dont feel confident about making edible donations themselves, and let's face it a Bailey's dessert isn't the type of thing youhave every day - so why not at Christmas? Not everyone likes Christmas pud.

It isnt thoughtless or lazy to go to the effort of shopping queuing and bringing home - or is the issue the £3 when you've spent more? Either way I think you're being very unreasonable and offensive.

JugglingMeYorkiesAndNutRoast · 24/12/2012 18:28

Yeh, not everyone has the same resources to "bring to the table" Xmas Wink

This is not only financially, but also in skills, energy, other responsibilities, time, physical or mental health.

If she was asked to bring a pudding contribution and she is doing so then YABVU and unseasonable to quibble !

LouisWalshsChristmasCloset · 24/12/2012 18:30

I got called posh! Wow.
So i'ts official, not wanting a frozen dessert on xmas day makes you posh then.
Guess IABU then. And a snob Hmm

Jingleallthejay · 24/12/2012 18:31

you said it yourself pages back I was beig slightly tongue in cheek tbh, I think you are being ungrateful and greedy to expect people to spend tonnes of money on cake It is a cake you should have given them something else along with a pudding

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 24/12/2012 18:41

I've bought a frozen pudding for Xmas. Its a Waitrose Eton Mess because I know I am the only one who vaguely likes Xmas pud and the children like Eton Mess.

Does that count because its an aspirational MC frozen pud that makes reference to a vair famous public school?

I know I shouldn't have bothered mentioned the money thing.
I really wouldn't of been arsed if she'd have gone scrumping and bought a couple of bags of crumble for 20p each or she could have at least made sure everyone would like what she has bought.
