I'm cooking dinner tomorrow. One of us is assigned to buy veg, the other meat and the other pudding. So iv'e got a mahoosive chicken,a joint of ham and stuffing, t'other guest has bought carrots potatoes parsnips sprouts broccoli and sauces. So far so good. I phoned the pudding offender last night to find out what scrummy dessert we will be having on xmas day, and this is what she has bought.

It's dome a shaped cake/ice cream thing looks like a panna cotta on the outside and a gateau thing on the inside for 3 quid.
AIBU to think when someone has gone to the trouble of buying naice food and will spend ages preparing and cooking it, the least you could do is buy a naice pudding to go with it.
AIBU to feel a little resentful that they haven't even spent a quarter of what I have and the only prep they have to do is take it out the freezer a couple of hours before?

Am I being the ungrateful one or is she? Merry Christmas Xmas Smile

I actually enjoyed it.
Its was a nice um... conecept. If it was homemade by a very good cook it would have been bloody delicious.
I won't be rushing out to buy one anytime soon, but it weren't 'alf bad.

Ooohh that was painful

Flisspaps · 25/12/2012 21:29

Well done OP for admitting you were wrong. Nice to see that after your meat, veg and Iceland pud you still made room for humble pie! Grin

LouisWalshsChristmasCloset · 25/12/2012 21:34

Xmas Grin

Glad your dessert was a good course - what a waste otherwise!

susanann · 25/12/2012 23:51

told you it was lovely!! lol

LouisWalshsChristmasCloset · 26/12/2012 00:04

No alternatives, so tiny pieces all round.
Was a humongous dinner though so I was not too bothered in the end.
The liqueur was strong

Well even if it was nice I think you are still entitled to feel peeved, and be crowing vindictively because it was a) too small (I hate skimpy meanness) and b) not homemade (I hate people who don't make an effort for special things.)

FellatioNelson · 26/12/2012 05:05

well 'hate' might be too strong a word, but I do quietly judge. Grin

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 26/12/2012 08:07

I'm with you on that one. Not in the spirit at all.

justmyview · 26/12/2012 10:21

I think it was a bit of a lame contribution but glad to hear it was OK Well done for updating

BaublesAndCuntingCarolSingers · 26/12/2012 12:01

I think that you have let this go too easily, OP. I would not be able to forgive this sort of thing.

Binfullofgibletsonthe26th · 26/12/2012 14:53

I have one defrosting on the kitchen counter now....

It's a Baileys bombe but not from Iceland, I bought it in an upmarket Swiss supermarket. I'd have been happy to swap the packaging with your dessert contributee to make you feel better Xmas Grin

DH would happily scarf any Iceland dessert, he goes mad when those party food ads appear on tv.

Alittlestranger · 26/12/2012 16:23

YANBU.

It sounds vile. Iceland as a whole is horrible. The problem is for a lot of people their food is perfectly good and there really is no accounting for taste. People defending the pudding are probably the same people who would contribute wensleydale with cranberries for a cheese board.

If the problem is a lack of money then she could have bought a perfectly reasonable christmas pudding for a little more than £3.

Sparklingbrook · 26/12/2012 16:24

What's with the Iceland bashing? I don't get it.

Floggingmolly · 26/12/2012 16:28

I like Wensleydale with cranberries... Does it really make me a complete philistine? Hmm. (Not the I care)

SmethwickBelle · 26/12/2012 16:31

Iceland gateaux are bloody brilliant - enormous, fruit covered and yes cheap, DH had one as his birthday cake last year.

With bring a dish dinners you have to expect a variety of styles, not everyone likes cooking or has the cash or time to create something elaborate.

Sparklingbrook · 26/12/2012 16:32

Apparently Flogging. If you go to Iceland you are only allowed Primula and Babybel.

YouOldTinsellySlag · 26/12/2012 16:36

I really like some Iceland food and I think there's nothing wrong with a Baileys dessert. However, I would have brought three desserts, all contrasting, if it were me. i.e a hot pudding, a Baileys dessert and maybe some posh ice cream.

BaublesAndCuntingCarolSingers · 26/12/2012 16:41

And a fruit option, Tinselly. There must be a fruit option.

Sparklingbrook · 26/12/2012 16:44

Frozen Raspberries from Iceland Buppers. Wink
