Or not, ds1 has asked for it as me and dh, normally have it, ds2 can't have it not that he willl know, so he'll be having soda water in a orange glass, to him it will be fizzy pop. Or do I pretend to do Buck's Fizz, fresh orange and lemonade/soda water

I'm thinking the latter, but dh says a little topped up with lemonade won't do any harm?

I'd let him have a tiny bit, topped up with more juice.

maybe about a cm in a flute topped up?

katiecubs · 23/12/2012 22:24

Pretend!!

SweetMingePie · 23/12/2012 22:25

I buy my DC some Schloer for Christmas drinks. Orane and lemonade sounds like a good idea as well.

StinkyWicket · 23/12/2012 22:25

Or I'd say no, depends on my mood it would seem Xmas Grin

Pretend. 'Naice' orange juice (Innocent is good) and lemonade or fizzy water.

givemeaclue · 23/12/2012 22:26

It is alcoholic

defineme · 23/12/2012 22:26

No-what's the point? There are lots of special drinks thst are nonalcoholic.

givemeaclue · 23/12/2012 22:27

It is alcoholic, why would you give a child alcohol?

AfterEightMintyy · 23/12/2012 22:27

No, 6 is too young for any alcohol. He can have orange juice with lemonade or soda or tonic to make it fizzy. Surprised you need to ask, tbh.

verytellytubby · 23/12/2012 22:27

No way. Mine are getting pink lemonade as a treat.

peaceandlovebunny · 23/12/2012 22:27

you could all have non-alcoholic 'bucks fizz'

littlewhitebag · 23/12/2012 22:28

Don't pretend - tell him he can't have alcohol as he is too young but you will make him a special drink and do fresh orange and lemonade.

WorraLorraTurkey · 23/12/2012 22:28

"No darling, bucks fizz is for adults because they contain alcohol".

Or am I way too old fashioned/simplistic about these things? Confused

apostrophethesnowman · 23/12/2012 22:28

No. Pretend. He won't know the difference.

BornToFolk · 23/12/2012 22:29

No way! DS (5) is getting lemonade as a treat on Christmas Day. I'm fairly relaxed about giving children sips of alchohol, watered down wine etc but 3 or even 6 is way, way too young.

2kidsintow · 23/12/2012 22:29

Mine have it. Half a glass at special occasions, swiftly followed by another drink to further dilute it.

If watered down wine is good enough for little-uns on the continent, I don't see how half a small wine glass of wine diluted by (plenty) of orange juice is a problem once in a while.

BlackholesAndRevelations · 23/12/2012 22:30

FFS! Orange juice and lemonade "because this one is for the grown-ups".

2kidsintow · 23/12/2012 22:30

Not sure about the 3 yr old tho! Orange juice and lemonade there, is what I'd do.

AltinkumATEalltheTurkey · 23/12/2012 22:31

Ah ds is a bright boy he knows he can have alcoholic beverages at home from age 5, however I don't like it one bit but dh says a little wont harm him, as it will be heavily topped with "pop" personally I don't get it, so I'm thinking soda and OJ.

Doesn't help we have lots of family/friends who own pubs and
Restaurants.

BlackholesAndRevelations · 23/12/2012 22:31

Why on gods earth would you consider giving alcohol to a 6 yo?!

AltinkumATEalltheTurkey · 23/12/2012 22:33

3 year old is allergic to citrus acid, so he couldn't have it but soda water in a orange flute is the way to go with him.

OP posts:
VelvetSpoon · 23/12/2012 22:33

When mine were that age, we just used to make theirs with OJ and lemonade, and ours with cava champagne. They always assumed their drink was same as ours :)

DS1 is now 14, and although I'll offer him a glass of the alcoholic stuff on Xmas Day, he will probably refuse and have a Coke instead!

myalias · 23/12/2012 22:34

I gave my ds a small glass of Bucks Fizz when he was 15 and he cameout in a rash. Just stick with orange juice and lemonade.

HairyPotter · 23/12/2012 22:34

At that age, mine had orange juice with lemonade in champagne flutes. My dd1 (14) will be asked if she wants a small glass of the real thing she won't want it though dd2 (9) would have some if she thought she could get away with it.

6 and 3 is far too young though imho.
