To ask you to help me tweet hotel du vin?

sassytheFIRST · 23/12/2012 08:58

It was my 40th bday last weekend. Dh had booked us into hotel du vin in birmingham, arranged for my ils to have the dds, we were shopping, eating, going to a jazz club and staying in the hotel. But then I got flu.

Hotel du vin refused to reimburse us or allow us to reallocate the night. £250 wasted.

Thought I would tweet this and see if I could shame them into some action. Could I ask mnetters to support my tweeting?

Disclaimer - I'm not a brilliant tweeter so any help woul be appreciated.

It isn't the hotels fault that you didn't turn you. Why should they be out of pocket because you didn't? They are a business.

sassytheFIRST · 23/12/2012 09:13

No, true. Bit Scroogey though. They'd have had a good chance at filling the room 2 Saturdays before Xmas.

I think you're in the wrong too, what you describe is what travel insurance is for.

Did you leave it late to tell them then? So they couldn't resell the room?

CurrentBun · 23/12/2012 09:15

Travel insurance covers this.

sassytheFIRST · 23/12/2012 09:16

Travel insurance said no - has to be a stay of 48 hours duration or more.

Kayano · 23/12/2012 09:16

Would they? I don't know many people going off overnight randomly 2 weeks before Christmas. :/

HollyBerryBush · 23/12/2012 09:16

I think you are effectively trying to round up pack mentality to bully a business to bending to your whim - which they are not legally obliged to do.

sassytheFIRST · 23/12/2012 09:16

Told them at 11.30am.

Gutting but hardly HdVs fault. When did you cancel? How much notice did you give them?

Sleepyfergus · 23/12/2012 09:19

X post.

I'm afraid cancelling on the day is really too late for HdV to be able to resell. Lucky for them if they do, but I can see them having an empty room that night.

It is such a shame for you, I do agree. But I do think this is one that you have to chalk up to experience.

I would be gutted too in your shoes.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 23/12/2012 09:19

nope sorry I'm not going to join in

I am sorry that you were ill, what a bummer

You took out travel insurance for at least a 48 hour stay even though you were booked for one night only?

Travel insurance comes with our bank account.

Ok I get the picture, I am BU. but £250!! Still think they are miserable bastards. Grr.

marquesas · 23/12/2012 09:22

In this instance I don't think you have any grounds for complaint, sorry.

Its not the hotel's fault, once you knew you couldn't get your money back why didn't you go? If I was ill I certainly wouldn't mind staying in bed in a luxury hotel, much better than at home Grin

TheArmadillo · 23/12/2012 09:22

It is unlikely this close to christmas that people would assume that a hotel would have a booking on a saturday on the same day Hmm

I agree with HollyBerryBush, this is disappointing for you but this isn't the hotel's fault or their problem to sort. Tough shit- sometimes these things happen and by the time you have reached adult age you should have learnt to cope with it.

And using this kind of 'twitter power' over minor issues like this or things when it isn't the companies fault means when something bad actually happens then it has no affect as the companies are saturated by that point.

Was it paid for by cc as you may have insurance from them but cancelling at such short notice is normally not refundable.

MariahScarey · 23/12/2012 09:24

Ah. Travel insurance with bank accounts is SHIT. As we found out when kiss airways went bust.

Never ever ever rely on it

WillSingForCake · 23/12/2012 09:25

They're not miserable bastards, they're trying to run a business in difficult financial times. Why should they lose out because you're ill?

HollyBerryBush · 23/12/2012 09:25

If your DH had half a wit about him he would have rung round his friends and tried to recoup by selling on - or even giving it to someone.

MariahScarey · 23/12/2012 09:25

Christ. Don't be mean!

bradywasmyfavouritewiseman · 23/12/2012 09:26

I think that's a really shitty thing to do.

I have a business in this industry and at Christmas you can't just fill things last minute. Most people have December planned. People generally don't do booked a hotel for £250 last minute.

And to ask people to tweet them with you is pack mentality and really crappy. I would be gutted. We have had people kick because they didn't show and lost their deposit. People don't think about the impact on the business. situations like this cost business alot of money.

noddyholder · 23/12/2012 09:27

I love h du v please don,t

sassytheFIRST · 23/12/2012 09:27
