To ask you to help me tweet hotel du vin?

It was my 40th bday last weekend. Dh had booked us into hotel du vin in birmingham, arranged for my ils to have the dds, we were shopping, eating, going to a jazz club and staying in the hotel. But then I got flu.

Hotel du vin refused to reimburse us or allow us to reallocate the night. £250 wasted.

Thought I would tweet this and see if I could shame them into some action. Could I ask mnetters to support my tweeting?

Disclaimer - I'm not a brilliant tweeter so any help woul be appreciated.

I cancelled a hotel on the day and they said fine come another time instead - but it was February...I think they could have met you half way...

What's Xmas spirit got to do with anything?

You say you accept you are unreasonable but then say that? You obviously don't think you are being unreasonable and think we should hound a hotel into giving you a refund because its Christmas. Have I got that right?

sassytheFIRST · 23/12/2012 09:45

Err no Brady. I have accepted I am BU. read my comments please.

Do think I am coming in for more than I deserve here. Lighten up.

I would've gone with a flu. I once became quite ill before a trip with ex to the Fat Duck and an overnight stay at a posh cottage. Was no going to lose so much money not turning up.

MariahScarey · 23/12/2012 09:58

I meant don't be mean to sassy

BoysAreLikeDogs · 23/12/2012 09:58

I think it's the twitter thing that's a bit erk. Ofc we sympathise, losing ££££ sucks and being ill even more so.

Also some of us have seen twitter backfires, not pleasant

bradywasmyfavouritewiseman · 23/12/2012 10:03

Lighten up.

Yeah ok.

Meryy christmas op.

OP

Why didn't you or DH post on here? Someone might have been able to take your room.

HyvaPaiva · 23/12/2012 10:43

That's rubbish for you and a real disappointment, especially for a birthday that's special. I'm sorry for you. It isn't the hotel's fault. We're in such a blame culture, compensatory entitlement is so popular and people are quick to run to Twitter. I don't understand it and it makes me Hmm to be honest. You missed something because you were sick. That's life and sometimes it's tough luck and it's a real shame for you. Ultimately though, it's not the hotel's responsibility and you agreed their terms and conditions at the time of booking.

peacypops · 23/12/2012 19:07

Disappointing - but that's life. I wouldn't necessarily expect a refund if I cancelled a booking on the day. I stayed with HDV recently and they were brilliant. They had unfortunately double-booked our room and we ended up having to stay in a room with not such a good view, in a slightly noisier part of hotel. They couldn't have been more apologetic - gave us a massive reduction, free breakfast and bottle of champagne. Also agreed to upgrade me for any future bookings. I was really impressed with them to be honest.

GrendelsMum · 23/12/2012 19:10

Oh, what a shame - poor old you.

I hope you were able to have a slightly delayed celebration instead?

CajaDeLaMemoria · 23/12/2012 19:21

HdV does have a fantastic reputation because they are so fair. If they had any chance of reselling the room they would have let you rearrange.

Two Saturdays before Christmas though?with only a few hours notice? That's just not possible.

It really sucks, but a twitter campaign isn't the way to go here. It'd be a travel insurance or credit cards claim, but if you can't use those, it's a mixture of bad planning and bad luck. A twitter campaign is very likely to be turned around and start a backlash!

I am really sorry though. It's a wonderful hotel and being ill is rubbish.
