I want it in my purse. Otherwise I'll lose the fucker.

And yes, young lady in Debenhams, I will make a song and dance about fishing it out.

Thank you nice lady in Marks who gave me the choice.

Fucking shopping.

Fair dos LF.

It's the stroppers I don't understand.

AndABigBirdInaPearTree · 21/12/2012 12:35

I'd like mine stapled to the bag please. I have a better chance of finding it again.

I also don't like coins on top of my notes, if your goal is to serve me as quickly as possible and go onto the next person that will slow me down. Give me the coins and then the notes.

StuntGirl · 21/12/2012 12:36

I am absolutely delighted that this will be my last Christmas in retail. Won't have to deal with charming dickhead behaviour like this anymore!

LaundryFairy · 21/12/2012 12:37

Thanks, Alis - and I know what you mean. One man once put me in my place saying "you're only a shop girl, you know!". I held back from telling him that I actually had a Masters degree and more manners than he could ever hope to possess.

GreenyEyes · 21/12/2012 12:37

I'm amazed at the amount of people who can't manage notes underneath coins. It's hardly the Krypton Factor is it?

PickledInAPearTree · 21/12/2012 12:38

I've never had a receipt stapled to my bag.

Count yourselves lucky englishers.

We don't even get a bag anymore.

Or find it so hard to take a receipt out of a bag.

Sad Bless.

Nancy66 · 21/12/2012 12:39

It's not the shop assistants' fault that people are so bloody clueless that they might throw away a reciept in a bag.

PickledInAPearTree · 21/12/2012 12:39

Any your pounds gone over with a bit of brasso usual?

This is a good thread. All the retail people get to offload and hopefully terl better. I get to offload. Hopefully we all go back to being vaguely nice to each other now we've got it out of our systems.

YANBU.

I didn't realise that I was in such a minority not wanting my receipt in the bag, I like to have them all in my purse so that I only have to fish them out from one place when I have the time to deal with them.

As for bags, these days I usually have my own, which slows things down anyway.

Also, I'm in the camp of coins then notes/receipt into my hand. Those who want notes first must be more dexterous than me. Grin

AndABigBirdInaPearTree · 21/12/2012 12:44

to be fair I usually ask very nicely and in an English accent which most Americans respond nicely to.

Alisvolatpropiis · 21/12/2012 12:45

LF - I hated customers like that. I once asked a customer what he would do if supermarkets didn't exist, hunt and gather his own food? after he asked if working in a supermarket was the best I could do with my life Shock

I used to get that all the time. I started off justifying myself "oh I'm in 6th form, uni" etc but quite quickly just felt insulted on behalf of all shop workers. There's such a snobby attitude about it,so many people presume shop workers are stupid and beneath them.

HECTheHallsWithRowsAndFolly · 21/12/2012 12:46

"Receipt in the bag?"

"No thank you, I'll take it"

smile and say thank you.

LRDtheFeministDude · 21/12/2012 12:46

I just wanted to say (not that there's much chance they're on here, but ...) - I've just finished off my Christmas shopping this morning and now I think, every single person in the shops I went into was really nice and smiley and towards the end they when I was getting laden down with bags they all tried to give me my card/change in a helpful way instead of just shoving it at me.

So, Thanks people who work in retail in Oxford, you are all lovely.

HaveYourselfAMardyLittleXmas · 21/12/2012 12:50

Hec. Thats my usual take too. But today they had already already stuffed it in and handed me the bag at lightning speed.
