I want it in my purse. Otherwise I'll lose the fucker.

And yes, young lady in Debenhams, I will make a song and dance about fishing it out.

Thank you nice lady in Marks who gave me the choice.

Fucking shopping.

I'm not being horrid to the staff (ok maybe a bit in Debenhams). I am venting my hormonal rage on MN.

Bandersnatch Some customers want you to do that and get arsey if you don't.

Like I say, you can't win.

BertieBotts · 21/12/2012 11:46

But everyone wants different things! If you hand it to people someone will complain and get huffy about having to put it away separately, most people don't like reciepts cluttering up their purse. Worst of all is when they throw it on the floor straight away - yeah, thank you for that. If you'd just handed it back I could always put it in the bin.

Sometimes I hand back with change and sometimes I put it in the bag. If they're buying something expensive which comes in a box I'll ask if they want it in the box or separately - makes it easier for them to find it if they need to bring the item back for any reason.

Badvocsanta · 21/12/2012 11:47

Calm down!
It's Xmas, not the Normandy landings!
And I like the receipt in the bag....

GrimmaTheNome · 21/12/2012 11:47

Nearly all shop assistants ask if you want the receipt in the bag. Which is where most people do want it.

roooibos · 21/12/2012 11:49

All I'm sayin is just be nice, it's nice to be nice.

upstart68 · 21/12/2012 11:50

Man, I am SO GLAD I do not work in retail any more, particularly at this time of year.

Me too. No doubt most of them are working Xmas eve and Boxing day dealing with us lovely customers.

BertieBotts · 21/12/2012 11:51

Also we're told to ask about store cards. Sorry Grin We hate it as much as you! Unfortunately management have just informed us (huffily) that anyone who is not trying to promote memberships and shop floor sales is getting fired Hmm Nice.

Receipt in the bag seems the most practical to me. It means one less thing to carry and sort out and you'll need to sort out all of your purchases out of their individual bags and recycle or put away the bags when you get home anyway so it doesn't take a second to sort the reciepts out then. Whereas if you're doing the sorting, asking, etc IN the queue it slows service down for everyone, and nobody likes to stand in a queue for hours.

GrimmaTheNome · 21/12/2012 11:51

MN serves a wonderful purpose as a vent for hormonal mardy cows this sort of thing - I'm sure it makes the rest of the world a happier place. Grin

Vent away, we can take it.

I'm a huge rager at the people, namely my mum, who takes forever to do their filing at the bloody tills. Receipt here, coins in there, notes in this part, giftcard in that part, purse back in this part of my bag. FFS, just get round the fucking corner and sort it out when you're out of everyones bloody way. And don't get me started on people that queue for weeks only to get to the front, be asked to pay and THEN start the mass rummage for purses/wallet. What, like you hadn't expected to pay????
No, I'm not very tolerant. No, I dont care. But this is why most of my shopping has been done online.
By the way, I prefer receipts in the bag, one less thing to file!

TheCountessOlenska · 21/12/2012 11:55

I DO work in retail - will be working this weekend. And I rarely comment on AIBU threads but PISS OFF OP.

God the amount of people who when I "chirp" Hmm "Would you like you're receipt in the bag" - start huffing and puffing as if I'm trying to pull a fast one - "No, no I'll have it in my purse thank you" Oh GET A LIFE

TheCountessOlenska · 21/12/2012 11:56

And I CAN use an apostrophe correctly Grin your

Merrycuckingfistmas · 21/12/2012 11:58

You know how I treat customer like you Mardy? Extra nicely! And you find it fucking annoying don't you? Lmao!

Seriously though give us shop assistants a break, it's hard fucking work pandering to every grumpy bastards needs, and as for lazy bastards, it's bloody hard work at this time of year, we work until 6 or 7 on Xmas eve and back in first thing Boxing Day, I mean we are only shop workers why should we get a Christmas?

Anyway Mardy, I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and a fabulous new year Xmas Grin

Softlysoftly · 21/12/2012 12:01

Move to Wales then you just get receipt, money and your purchases handed to you. You can do what you like with them then, unless you want to buy a bag.

Please be nice to retail staff at Christmas. It ain't hard!

MulledPinot · 21/12/2012 12:05

I don't want it in the bag either.

But I'm naice about it

LaundryFairy · 21/12/2012 12:11

I don't care about the receipt. What I can't stand is being asked:

1)" have you found everything you were looking for today."
(my usual response: " No! I couldn't find the meaning of life!"

  1. "what are you doing for the rest of the day - anything nice?" (my favourite answer: "I would tell you but then I would have to kill you."
PickledInAPearTree · 21/12/2012 12:14

They have to ask that.

I don't get how people think they can get away with being so horrible to shop staff.

Poor buggers must get loads of these hilarious quips and snarky huffs a day.

Merrycuckingfistmas · 21/12/2012 12:15

Don't worry laundry even if we do ask we aren't actually interested and probably aren't really listening anyway.

I tell you why it bugs me. The shop staffs hands are tied. If they were snarky back people would get frothy and outraged and complain.

So it's just really not on.
