To think think that everyone except me gets a Christmas Bonus! (light-hearted)

So, I give the following people something extra at Christmas:

child-minder
hair-dresser
milk-man
bin-men

Where is my Christmas bonus? I don't think I have ever had one & I've been working for 22 years (longer if you count Saturday jobs).

Anyone else never had one? Does anyone get one?

OP posts:
TheCrackFox · 19/12/2012 18:22

Never had one either.

Iactuallydothinkso · 19/12/2012 18:34

twitchypalm · 19/12/2012 19:24

knackeredmother · 19/12/2012 19:26

NHS here, never had a bonus but one year I got a mug.

Nuttyprofessor · 19/12/2012 19:27

DH gets a months salary which is very nice. I get nothing.

TheMonster · 19/12/2012 19:28

I get cards from some of my pupils.

catgirl1976geesealaying · 19/12/2012 19:29

I get a small one

HomeEcoGnomist · 19/12/2012 19:38

Got a box of chocs from boss.

Times have definitely changed - I remember years of complaining about getting too many hampers/bottles of wine etc from suppliers! What was I thinking?!

AuntLucyInTheNorthPole · 19/12/2012 19:40

Bloody hell I thought they were standard. We're a small business and we give a bonus to everyone every Christmas - at least £100 each for full timers. In 2009 we were struggling so much that I had to go round the house in Nov looking for stuff to sell so we could do the bonus - still did them. And a 'we pay for everything' christmas party. We're recruiting at the moment. Central London based administrator. Full time, £18k plus profit share and BuPa. Anyone want a link to the totaljobs advert?!

LtXmasEve · 19/12/2012 19:41

I don't get one usually, but this year we were actually given an extra 5 days leave, which has been worth a fortune Smile. For the first time this year I've actually done NOTHING for a whole day!

My FIL still gets his Christmas bonus - 5 years after he retired. He was a slaughterman and well respected by the local farmers. Every year he gets given the biggest turkey in the world Grin. Honestly, it's the size of a bloody ostrich!

ethelb · 19/12/2012 19:44

I have worked in private and voluntary sector.

Nothing. Ever.

Except a 1% pay rise this year in the vountary sector job. My old private sectory job is on year 5 on a pay freeze. Glad I left!

ethelb · 19/12/2012 19:45

@auntlucy yes please! DP is looking at the mo.

HorraceTheChristmasOtter · 19/12/2012 19:47

DP got £200. Not huge, but I was very Xmas Envy as I've never had anything extra other than some of the tin of roses the manager provided. I made him buy me a new hat and give me money for extra christmas treats Xmas Grin.

skatebauble · 19/12/2012 19:59

First employers gave a 10 tesco voucher. I left this job in a december and as they came round with pay slips i didnt get one despite having a further week to work. Was v cross.
In that job i did get lots of wine though.
Since then, nothing.
Dh got 2 bottles of wine today and came back saying everyone was disappointed as they used to get a £200 bonus.
Think its just the way things are, although how lovely of the poster who said she had been selling things so she could still give a bonus. Very admirable, but sadly few employers like that.

hugoagogo · 19/12/2012 20:14

I get 2 days compulsory unpaid leave. Wine cheers!

SantyClaws · 19/12/2012 20:19

used to get great big fuck off bonuses when i worked in the City when times were good there years and years ago

those were the days

Mrsrudolphduvall · 19/12/2012 20:23

I work for a charity and have never had one.
Dh has own business and gives his guys a bonus in April of about £3000.
That's when I get a bonus as I am on paper the secretary Grin

parno · 19/12/2012 20:29

We get nowt, but there again I expect nowt. My bonus is going to work every day with such lovely people!!! (No smiley for vomit.)

parno · 19/12/2012 20:32

Oh hang on, I got a mug for getting the flu jab. Then someone "borrowed" it. Does that count?

ChristmasNamechangeBridezilla · 19/12/2012 20:35

Local government and you've got to be joking. Grin

cherrypieandicecream · 19/12/2012 20:44

I have only ever got one 'bonus' at Christmas, in 10 years, and that was a corporate branded umbrella - don't get me wrong, it was a good umbrella, but it wasn't really the Christmas gift me and the rest of the office were hoping for!

Casperthefriendlyspook · 19/12/2012 21:08

I work in higher education. Have never had a bonus. My boss did give me some chocolates today tho. However, I did also give all my direct reports (24 of them) a small thing I paid for myself. So, reckon I'm down financially. We don't even get a wee glass of mulled wine. Had to pay for it at the Xmas do!

emsyj · 19/12/2012 21:20

DH gets a bonus - varies every year, this year he got £3k (but will pay 40% tax on it so will actually get more like £1800 ish). I am ecstatic as it means we can get a new bedroom carpet - ours is ancient and disgusting with ancient dog pee on it from the previous owner's dog and no amount of shampooing will shift it. We have the window ajar all year round. God, that makes me sound like a dirty slattern.... Blush DH will also be getting some new clothes and shoes, he never buys anything for himself so it's about time.

I'm now a civil servant and don't get one. Not even a Christmas party! I do think it's odd working somewhere that doesn't put on a Christmas 'do' - there's one organised but you have to pay for yourself. Have always had an employer funded one before.

A friend of mine gets a choice of wines and spirits as a Christmas gift, which is rather nice.

theredhen · 20/12/2012 15:26

Not even a card, Christmas party, bottle if wine. Nothing. Hmm

Clients bring in chocolates and wine for all the staff, the boss takes them home. :(

Been promised a Christmas "day out" for the last two years, still waiting. Told didn't have to work Christmas Eve, now she's changed her mind.

Not feeling very warm towards my boss right now, in case you couldn't tell!Grin

freddiefrog · 20/12/2012 15:51

I used to get one but I'm self employed now.

I get the odd box of chocs/bottle of wine from various people

DH gets one but it's profit-related, if the company doesn't hit its targets they don't
