Work Christmas party tonight.

It's been arranged for a while that friends partner would drive us there (and 2 other girls) so we could all have a drink.

Today she comes to my desk and says "Cherrie sorry we're not able to give you a lift tonight now because Sophie doesn't have any way of getting there."

I feel so upset, stupidly upset but I've tried to hide it.

If she'd told me a couple of days ago then fine, I could have arranged with someone else. But I feel extremely cheeky asking for lift from someone else now.

does sophie not drive? do you drive?

why didn't sophie make her own plans earlier?

hard to say if yabu on so little info.

SantasNaughtySack · 18/12/2012 15:14

Sorry, a little confused- has your friend chucked you out in favour of someone else? And do you not drive at all, or not want to or the party?

Helltotheno · 18/12/2012 15:14

So she's sidelined you and is now taking someone else instead? If so, she is BU and I would have said something along the lines of "Actually if I'd known that earlier, I could have arranged a lift with someone else, but that's going to be very difficult to sort now".

She pulled the rug out after making an arrangement so she shouldn't get to think you're fine about it!

valiumredhead · 18/12/2012 15:15

I think that's really shit - she should've told Sophie that her car was full as she was giving you a lift. I would be hurt too Sad

MaxPepsi · 18/12/2012 15:18

Charming!

What a cow!

I'd send an email round the entire office asking if anyone is able to give you a lift as you've been let down at the last minute.

UC · 18/12/2012 15:19

Do what MaxPepsi said.

I'd also be upset that she'd picked me to let down - why you, why not one of the other girls?

Sophie should have thought about how she was getting there before. There are such things as cabs??

peaceandlovebunny · 18/12/2012 15:20

i really wouldn't set myself up by emailing everyone!
your 'friend' truly is a nasty woman. get a taxi. look wonderful. have a great time. really annoy the bitch.

cherrieontop · 18/12/2012 15:20

Sorry. I'll try and explain better.

My friend has said she won't give me a lift anymore because shes giving Sophie a lift.

Me and Sophie both drive, but the reason friends partner was taking us in the first place was so that we could drink.

The work do is drinks and dancing, don't think food is included.

I could drive myself but ... it's not really my idea of a great night being stone cold sober surrounded by drunk merry people.

OP posts:
Chopstheduck · 18/12/2012 15:23

hmm, so Sophie could drive herself then, and you were offered the spot first. Sounds like yanbu!

LoopsInHoops · 18/12/2012 15:24

Sounds like your colleague is a knob. Tell her.

LoopsInHoops · 18/12/2012 15:25

Or send an all staff email saying you've been let down by your lift at the last minute, does anyone else have a spare seat.

cherrieontop · 18/12/2012 15:25

It was how she told me too, it wasn't even done in an apologetic way, it was done almost in passing .. like an "oh by the way ... " kind of thing Sad

OP posts:
Chopstheduck · 18/12/2012 15:25

I like loops idea of hte email round the office Grin

Groovee · 18/12/2012 15:25

The short notice is poor on her behalf. Why can't both of you get a lift with her? Hope you could sort it out x

SugaricePlumFairy · 18/12/2012 15:29

What a cow your colleague is!

I would feel equally let down and a little hurt that I was dropped like that.

Email round for a lift as suggested and accidently drop a Jaeger Bomb on Meanie's lap! Xmas Grin

lurkedtoolong · 18/12/2012 15:30

Could you get a taxi?

msrisotto · 18/12/2012 15:32

Doesn't it sound like Sophie's car is at the garage or something? She 'has no way of getting there', doesn't sound like she just wants to drink. And what's the big deal with being "stone cold sober" at a work party anyway? You won't be a leper!

ClippedPhoenix · 18/12/2012 15:33

Is she more friendly with Sophie than you?

MaxPepsi · 18/12/2012 15:37

msrissotto - no, it doesn't sound like Sophie's car is at the garage, and even it was - why does Cherrie suddenly have to be left in the lurch?

Cherrie might not have any way of getting there either.

And who mentioned being a leper?? Perhaps Cherrie fancies a glass or two of wine and the chance to relax.

cherrieontop · 18/12/2012 15:41

msrisotto I didn't plan and drinking myself stupid (I have to work with these people haha) ... but yes I did plan on having a couple of drinks, as it is a free bar.

I don't need to be drunk to have fun, but I also don't find it fun being around drunk people when I'm sober. I find it annoying to be honest.

And if I drove then I wouldn't feel comfortable even having one drink.

I think although I'm not sure, Sophie only decided that she was coming as of yesterday.

OP posts:
SantasNaughtySack · 18/12/2012 15:42

Is there anyone else that could drop you there and you owe them a lift another time?

ClippedPhoenix · 18/12/2012 15:43

I'd also want a few drinks too OP. I'd be bored rigid after an hour or so sober.

Your colleague obviously favours Sophie.

Can you get a cab?

RedToothbrush · 18/12/2012 15:53

Take a taxi. Or send email round the office.

Make sure you get REALLY REALLY drunk. Then punch Sophie and this other girl in the face in true Works Christmas Party fashion and blame it on the booze.*

*disclaimer: don't really do the above. I'm just seeing the potential christmas party recipe for disaster here.

valiumredhead · 18/12/2012 16:01

Send an email round the office 'X has let me down at the last minute, anyone got room for a little one?' and watch her squirm Grin

WhereYouLeftIt · 18/12/2012 16:02

Definitely send an e-mail round the office asking for a lift. No need to mention names in the email, they will spread as if by magic without any effort on your part.
