Those poor children at Conneticut school :( They mustve been absolutely petrified. When will the USA learn from these horrific shootings and out a ban on guns

ginmakesitallok · 14/12/2012 19:54

They won't. Not jsut because of the Constituton but because of the NRA and right wing voters.

GrimmaTheNome · 14/12/2012 19:55

The Right To Bear Arms has nothing to do with private gun ownership and any asshole with $100 being allowed to buy a gun. It has to do with the right to form a Militia.

I assumed that it was so they could stop the British re-aquiring them. Someone should let them know we've given up on Empire and they have a bloody big army.

MrsBW · 14/12/2012 19:57

'Its part of the constitution so it cant be changed' is an excuse. The constitution has been amended before, many times. The 'right to bear arms' is in itself an amendment don't forget.

There's just a large tranche of Americans that like owning guns.

MurderOfGoths · 14/12/2012 19:58

And a lot of money in selling guns and ammo.

StuntGirl · 14/12/2012 20:00

They won't. And events like this will keep happening. And they'll keep wringing their hands and despairing. And innocent people will keep dying.

TeeElfOnTeeShelf · 14/12/2012 20:02

You assume correctly, Grimma.

bedmonster · 14/12/2012 20:05

So so so Sad

Have gone from having that friday feeling to being sat in tears watching the news in minutes. Those poor poor families. Such a tragedy. No words. Sad

amillionyears · 14/12/2012 20:05

I sometimes think that USA citizens seem to be in a permanent state of wanting to be armed and ready, in case of attack.

cornflowers · 14/12/2012 20:08

Why are so many of these types of attacks in schools? It can't be a coincidence. It's just heartbreaking, I can't begin to imagine how much those affected must be suffering tonight.

Jux · 14/12/2012 20:12

Even if they did ban guns, what are they going to do about the millions of guns that are already out there? The ones which are illegally owned and which the owner doesn't want an amnesty for?

TheMysteryCat · 14/12/2012 20:31

That would an issue jux, but tbh it's an excuse to do nothing.

AntsMarching · 14/12/2012 20:45

Tee The right to keep and bear arms (often referred as the right to bear arms or to have arms) is the enumerated right that people have a personal right to own firearms for individual use, and a collective right to bear arms in a militia.

So it is about private gun ownership.

I'm not from CT, but I'm from the US. My parents both own guns. I grew up with guns in the house. We were taught gun safety from a young age. My parents have taken gun safety courses as part of their concealed weapon license.

Gun crime is not caused by people responsibly owning guns.

My parents have entered the age where they are no longer physically strong as they were in their prime or middle age. I think it's good that they have a level of protection available to them. Crimes against the elderly happen far more often then the school shootings.

And while the school shooting is a tragedy, I don't think taking away guns will stop school shootings. Whereas taking away guns will make my parents more vulnerable should someone break into their house.

And on another personal note, my aunt lives in a rural location. A few years ago, she was followed home by a man. He pulled into her drive, there is no other house around for miles. She felt uncomfortable so took her gun out of her car and had it by her side. The man talked to her as if he knew her, she corrected him that she wasn't that person, he then made sexual remarks and began walking towards her. She raised her gun and asked him to leave. He did.

I truly believe that story would have had a different outcome if she hadn't had her gun.

Anyway, guns aren't bad. People are bad and sometimes use guns to perpetrate their evil.

ProbationProbationProbation · 14/12/2012 20:46

I saw This recently and it is quite alarming. Yes we take into account population but even so.

apostrophethesnowman · 14/12/2012 20:49

They won't give them up.

They know best. Hmm

maxmillie · 14/12/2012 20:50

20 5 year olds anhiilated, I'd say its about time.

I know plenty of unstable 24 year olds in the uk. I don't know any here that could easily get hold of a gun. Go figure, as they say.

TheMysteryCat · 14/12/2012 20:51

Ants marching,

I'm sorry but it's a fallacy that being armed makes you safer. It makes you more likely to be fatally injured... Whether by an intruder or the gun owner panicking and shooting them self.

TeeElfOnTeeShelf · 14/12/2012 20:54

AntsMarching what a load of bullshit. The right to bear arms was written into the constitution after the British declared that the Colonists weren't allowed to own guns. It wasn't so your 90 year old parents could shoot people or so this sick bastard could kill children.

You make me sick as do all of you pro-gun assholes. It's because of your and others belief that people have the right to own guns that those kids are dead. How can you live with yourself?

How many gun deaths were in the UK last year? Tens. How many in the US? Tens of thousands.

What's the difference? Gun law.

Let's get some in the US and clean the fucking place up. It's been too long and this happens too much. Once is too much.

TheMysteryCat · 14/12/2012 20:54

Tee, well said.

TeeElfOnTeeShelf · 14/12/2012 21:03

Probably be deleted, Chickens, but thanks. Felt good to get out.

I know they won't, Lunatic. NRA is waaay too powerful.

Fucking sickening.

maxmillie · 14/12/2012 21:07

We'll said tee, good to remind ourselves that not all Americans belief this fucking propaganda bullshit.

How can the pro gun lot ignore these incidents and that evidence that having a gun makes you more likely to be killed. Morons.

Do the pro gun Americans not mind that the rest of the world think they are the ultimate selfish bastards, I've got a gun and so have my parents so fuck everybody else.

Terrible, terrible day, those poor little kids. My 5 y old is in kindergarten and be is just the sweetest not full of life little boy, as they all are at that age. To think of 20 of them being wiped out by someone that could simply go into a shop and buy a load of guns breaks my heart.

"...he stole them from someone who owned them legitimately but didn't secure them properly."

Oh that's okay then. So long as they owned legally, who cares if some sick bastard can just steal them.

Do you people listen to yourselves? Or are you too busy congratulating yourselves while cleaning your weapons of death?
