Tee The right to keep and bear arms (often referred as the right to bear arms or to have arms) is the enumerated right that people have a personal right to own firearms for individual use, and a collective right to bear arms in a militia.
So it is about private gun ownership.
I'm not from CT, but I'm from the US. My parents both own guns. I grew up with guns in the house. We were taught gun safety from a young age. My parents have taken gun safety courses as part of their concealed weapon license.
Gun crime is not caused by people responsibly owning guns.
My parents have entered the age where they are no longer physically strong as they were in their prime or middle age. I think it's good that they have a level of protection available to them. Crimes against the elderly happen far more often then the school shootings.
And while the school shooting is a tragedy, I don't think taking away guns will stop school shootings. Whereas taking away guns will make my parents more vulnerable should someone break into their house.
And on another personal note, my aunt lives in a rural location. A few years ago, she was followed home by a man. He pulled into her drive, there is no other house around for miles. She felt uncomfortable so took her gun out of her car and had it by her side. The man talked to her as if he knew her, she corrected him that she wasn't that person, he then made sexual remarks and began walking towards her. She raised her gun and asked him to leave. He did.
I truly believe that story would have had a different outcome if she hadn't had her gun.
Anyway, guns aren't bad. People are bad and sometimes use guns to perpetrate their evil.
