AIBU?

to be shocked at medical staff small talk

so there I am with a gamut of instruments up my jacksie in a big hospital, and the nurse (who I've never met before) is doing her best at small talk to stop me passing out. So she blurts out something about my husband's job. Xmas Shock WTF? How did she know? He is in a community facing role so there is no way I would make an issue of it, so I thought I'd rant on here instead. The medical care was fine, btw, and she did succeed in distracting me.

I don't understand. What does your Dh do? Does he work for the hospital?

I don't get it. Is she shagging your husband?

Or a lollipop man?

Oh what did she say.
Nurse used to say allsorts when rummaging about 'down there' and i'd be thinking wtf is she on about, but did take my mind off things, its a very useful skill imo.

I guess I just thought and hoped I was anonymous at that point, but was sadly wrong. Sad

X posts.

How does she know your dh?

If it makes you feel better I've had countless vaginal examinations from colleagues.

And years ago when I was a nurse I had a dr colleague do a rectal exam. I was a patient at the time, not just on a lunch break Wink

OK, interesting reactions. I don't know how she knows my husband, and as we have different names I am not even sure how she would know that I'm married to him. I thought this was quite creepy - how did she work it out? - but maybe I'm being unseasonable and oversensitive.

Seriously - did she know your DH is your DH? Did she just mention him in general small talk and it's complete coincidence that he is your DH? I did that once and thank god my friend stopped me before I finished the sentence as I really would have put my foot in it.

So she presumably knows your name, and if she knows your husband, he may have referred to you by said name?

VivaLeBeaver · 12/12/2012 22:37

It's a small world Nobody, six degrees of separation and all that.

Why is it such a big deal though? Are you married to Father Christmas?

Mmmm, maybe it's in your medical notes? Dunno.

Or he's famous and that's how she knows what his job is.

But you're not answering questions so its hard to know.

Either he does an ordinary job and you can't understand how she knows he works at Asda.

Or he's famous and you can't work out how she knows you're his wife.

Is he your named Next of Kin in you records?
Was she just trying to be nice?
Not sure what you felt was inappropriate here.
