This morning I went to the cashpoint, checked my balance, withdrew £100, did some shopping, paid by card - and then remembered I had not collected my money from the cashpoint.

Was it still there? Was it fuck...

How fucking thick am I? Someone please tell me they have done something equally as stupid, idiotic, woolly-minded, sodding imbecilic?

£100!!!! I hope someone struggling found it and buys something nice for their kids for Christmas. Still would rather it was in my pocket though.

I've done it with £60 :-(

eosmum · 11/12/2012 09:26

It may have gone back into the machine, check with your bank, did it myself and the machine took it back after a few seconds.

JimmyCorkhill · 11/12/2012 09:26

If no one else was around the machine sucks the money back in after a certain time. Give your bank a ring - it might be okay! Fingers crossed for you Xmas Smile

HellonHeels · 11/12/2012 09:27

Did you ask in the bank?

If I found £100 in a cashpoint I'd take it into the bank and hand it in. I am honest though Xmas Smile

Hope you get it back

Fakebook · 11/12/2012 09:27
Shock

But the machine beeps to remind you to take your card and money! It beeps!

boschy · 11/12/2012 09:27

I checked on line and it was shown as a debit... will try again!

chrismissymoomoomee · 11/12/2012 09:28

Check your account they usually only keep the money there for 30 seconds or thereabouts then take it back in.

SummerRainIsADistantMemory · 11/12/2012 09:30

I did it with 30 euros change at a Tesco self service till once. It's a horrible feeling when you realise Sad

FestiveDigestive · 11/12/2012 09:31

Go into the bank and ask - I think you will need to tell them what time it was. I've done it before with £60 and it had been sucked back in. It didn't automatically go back into my account though, I had to go in and claim it and I think they checked at the end of the day to see if that amount had gone back into the machine (it was a while ago, my memory is a bit hazy Grin )

cbeebiesatemybrain · 11/12/2012 09:31

Even if its showing as a debit it still might have been sucked back in. It will show as a credit tomorrow, was there anyone behind you?

DaveMccave · 11/12/2012 09:32

I did that recently. It was also a 100, luckily the person behind me in the queue ran after me, I was mortified! It happened to my cousin once, and the person that took it was traced on cctv and arrested. It's still theft, so contact your bank, and ask nearby about cctv too.

Caerlaverock · 11/12/2012 09:34

Even if it isn't sucked back in and someone nicks it you can still claim it back.

soaccidentprone · 11/12/2012 09:35

I've done cashback and the not been able to find the cash 5 mins later - only £10 though Xmas Sad

pictish · 11/12/2012 09:35

Oh dear! What a nightmare!!!
Sympathies to the max.

PurpleRayne · 11/12/2012 09:36

You need to report it to the bank and the police - it is theft. They will have a ctv over the cashpoint.

SavoyCabbage · 11/12/2012 09:37

I was at a cashpoint when someone left their money and it was sucked back in. I would go to the police and see if there are any CCTV cameras. The bank will be able to tell the police who used te machine after you.

Babyroobs · 11/12/2012 09:39

I did the sam thing a couple of weeks ago, although it was only £20. I had just walked down the road and realised what I had done and went straight into the bank . Some kind person had handed it in and I got it back. I'm not sure if the cashpoint machine swallows the cash back if it is not taken , it may be worth contacting your bank.

lollilou · 11/12/2012 09:42

I've done this twice! (baby brain) The first time it was sucked back in and I got it back the second someone took it. Hope yours was sucked back. Was the cashpoint busy?

boschy · 11/12/2012 09:43

Just checked online, it's not been credited back. so I think I had better phone them...

It was the supermarket cashpoint, and I did go in and speak to the customer services lady - she was so kind I almost sobbed. No one had handed it in tho, and we sort of agreed it was unlikely.

Hadnt thought about CCTV or police - I guess I will speak to the bank, call the supermarket and leave my details and ask them about CCTV.

Thanks everyone for helpful suggestions and not telling me what a fucking eejit I am! (will not be sharing this with DH though as he will definitely call me a fucking eejit!)

I did it also £100 also just before christmas, but a while ago now. You need to tell the branch in case ist was taken back in. I was told it takes a couple of days to get it back as they have to cash up and check for the the additional £100 then they return it to you account.

2muchxmaspud · 11/12/2012 09:54

I did this last year at christmas, £80. Got to the trolleys and put my pound in when it dawned on me what I'd done. Ran back to the cash machine 20 yards away no sign of anyone or my money. Whoever had been behind me must have thought itwas their lucky day... Went back for my trolley and some twat had took it along with my pound coin, not my best days admittedly Sad

If it makes you feel better I know a very unfortunate soul who made a shocking confession at work and has yet to live it down. He went to cash machine, very well to do lady in front of him, turns round and says machine is playing up. Colleague puts his card in to draw £250, money comes out, posh lady, "oh that will be my money"
I shit you not and this is gospel, dippy colleague actually handed her HIS £250, now thats dumb, but then to tell all at work is even dumber! I mean come on Shock

boschy · 11/12/2012 09:59

Well big thumbs up to my bank actually. Just spoke to a lovely lady, who says to wait til after 5pm, check if it's been recredited. If not they will do a cashpoint dispute form which involves someone checking the machine to see if it has an 'extra' £100, in which case it would be mine, and if it doesnt then I still have a document for use with police.

lolli and 2much I cant even claim baby brain, mine are teenagers!! and that poor chap with the £250...

EasilyBored · 11/12/2012 10:02

Aw, that's rubbish OP. I have run down the street after someone who left £60 in a cash point before. It's theft to keep the money if you find it, so I hope you can get it sorted.

Stinkyminkymoo · 11/12/2012 10:04

Omg! 100 smackers! I did this at m&s with £10 cash back at the self serve till.

I could have bloody kicked myself as I can ill-afford it. I'm so cross with myself!

lljkk · 11/12/2012 10:05

I lost £160 last year. I still haven't been brave enough to tell DH :(.

Can't remember how many times I've walked away from an ATM only to have next person shout over "Oi, your money?!" coz I had forgotten it.
