This morning I went to the cashpoint, checked my balance, withdrew £100, did some shopping, paid by card - and then remembered I had not collected my money from the cashpoint.

Was it still there? Was it fuck...

How fucking thick am I? Someone please tell me they have done something equally as stupid, idiotic, woolly-minded, sodding imbecilic?

£100!!!! I hope someone struggling found it and buys something nice for their kids for Christmas. Still would rather it was in my pocket though.

Def not telling DH! would only give him an excuse to have a rant (he's lovely really Smile).

Money is not growing on trees here at all, so I had that cash earmarked for Christmas shopping this week, and deliberately wanted cash so I couldn't just stick it all on a card. Bum, bum, bum.

Boschy don't beat yourself up about it as you can see you're not the only one who's done thisSmile.
One thing I started to do was hold my purse in my hand until the money comes out then put the card and money in it together.

Doilooklikeatourist · 11/12/2012 10:27

Left my wallet , with £60 cash and all my credit cards on the electrical desk in Tesco .

Started the rest of my shopping ,then heard my name being called on the instore tannoy .

My wallet had been handed in , complete with everything .

I did get told off by the customer services manager though .

Hope you get a happy ending too .

EggInABap · 11/12/2012 10:33

I did this twice. Two days in a row. Beat that for stupidity! £70 both days.

The funny thing was that the second day I was with friends in my car and pulled up at a garage to get cash, they all laughed and said don't forget your money this time! Which I then did. Got back to the car realised with horror I had done it again by which time the man behind me was at the cashpoint, he denied any money being there then quickly scarpered. Thieving bastard!

Caerlaverock · 11/12/2012 13:38

klaxon the bank will compensate even if someone has nicked it

mischiefmummy · 11/12/2012 13:43

It definitely is worth asking in the bank. I was xmas shopping years ago, went to the cash point and found £50 in the slot.

I handed it in to the bank, and asked them to trace the owners if possible.

It might have been found by someone honest!

MaggieMaggieMaggieMcGill · 11/12/2012 13:45

I nearly walked off without twenty pounds the other day, luckily my brain kicked in before I had walked off!

EverlongLovesHerChristmasRobin · 11/12/2012 13:48

Oh bummer.

It's easily done. So much going on in our heads. I've left my card at the checkout a few times, day dreaming.

Hope you get the cash back.

SDTGisAChristmassyWolefGenius · 11/12/2012 13:58

I did this once, with a tenner - which was a lot to me, back then, when I was a student - and the lady who followed me at the cashpoint took the money back into the bank, with her receipt, so they knew the transaction they were looking for, and it was credited back to my account.

Sadly I have also read a post on here, where the poster rejoiced in the fact that she had found £250 in the cashpoint - but it was OK for her to spend some of it, because she gave some to charity. On that thread, I got short shrift from some posters for saying this was theft.

I hope you have encountered one of the former sort of people, not one of the latter, OP.

gordyslovesheep · 11/12/2012 14:01

oh that's horrible :( poor you OP x

MummytoKatie · 11/12/2012 14:30

I know someone who did this. I also walked past a cashpoint one time beeping like mad as someone had done it. Me and my boyfriend stood by it until it got sucked back in to make sure that no one else took it so hopefully whoevers money it was got it back.

boschy · 17/12/2012 09:22

All's well that ends well... cashpoint correction has appeared on my statement, so I got it back!!! Note to self: never walk away from cashpoint without taking the money... Xmas Grin

Smile That is good to hear.

Theicingontop · 17/12/2012 10:50

Been there! It still makes me feel sick now. I realised about a minute after, ran back, and the man that was behind me was walking rather quickly in the opposite direction. I caught up with him, asked him for my money and he told me he had NO IDEA what I was talking about whilst looking very guilty, and walked away. I had my two year old holding my hand. Lied to my face and took my money Sad

Humanity fail.

BelieveInPink · 17/12/2012 11:28

Glad you got it back.

"I hope someone struggling found it and buys something nice for their kids for Christmas. Still would rather it was in my pocket though."

That is a lovely thing to say.
