"I don't know how to do links"

Am I the only person whose MN has an explanation under the posting box? That is pretty hard to miss, even if you are a first time poster?Xmas Grin

valiumredhead · 10/12/2012 18:46

Maybe they don't know how to copy and paste?

miamibeach · 10/12/2012 18:48

Nice.

I clicked the convert box but it didn't seem to work when I posted.

What a lovely welcome to MN.

BeyondStuffedWithXmassyGoodies · 10/12/2012 18:48

I mean the posts feature the address, but not the hyperlink

Sparklingbrook · 10/12/2012 18:49

I think it is fear about making a balls-up when you are new. There should be somewhere to practice. Grin

Greythorne · 10/12/2012 18:49

Tricky on a phone.

XBenedict · 10/12/2012 18:50

There is - you can preview it and check your link is working. I like helping people who can't do links, makes me feel needed Grin

BeyondStuffedWithXmassyGoodies · 10/12/2012 18:52

In that case miami, you can't possibly be one of the posters I mean, as if you clicked the convert box, you'd have no reason to apologise? Confused
Apologies though, I don't mean to be bitchy, I was just... perplexed :)
Welcome to MN!

Miamibeach - don't worry, some people are grumpy. The rest of us are pretty nice - but not sparkly ticker nice Xmas Grin

I'm sure it wasn't aimed at you - a lot of people who have posted here for years still can't do them!!

It is easier to type two of these [ then copy and post your link then type 2 more of these ]. If you want to say something like HERE then just leave 2 spaces after your copy and pasted bit and type what you want, then put the two ]'s.

Confused much ??

ChippingInAWinterWonderland · 10/12/2012 18:55

Sorry XBen - didn't mean to spoil your fun, you should probably help anyway, I've probably just confused her more!

See Miami - even grumpy people can be nice Xmas Grin

hackmum · 10/12/2012 19:07

I have a problem, which is that none of the emoticons work for me - it doesn't matter whether I type them in manually or copy and paste from the list, they just don't convert. It may be to do with the browser I'm using, I dunno.

BeyondStuffedWithXmassyGoodies · 10/12/2012 19:08

Try one now, we'll let you know if they show up for us?

pouffepants · 10/12/2012 21:14

It might be hard to miss.....but I missed it. Never noticed that bit before, and didn't have a clue how to do links.

There's loads of text on a computer screen, I think I just skim past anything that isn't immediately necessary. Computers freak me out.

Renatica · 10/12/2012 21:15

I can't do those nice neat one word links, they just defeat me!

BadRoly · 10/12/2012 21:16

It isn't there if you are posting from a phone - I have just looked now doing this...

cuttingpicassostoenails · 10/12/2012 23:56

Not only am I unable to do links, I can't even get the bloody smileys to work.

Oooh bugger!

Lueji · 11/12/2012 00:02

I assume you don't know how to copy and paste then....
Xmas Grin

It's not that complicated.
Xmas Wink

I'm not bothered about web addresses without links. Because I can copy and paste. Xmas Shock

MyNutcrackerSuiteAudrina · 11/12/2012 00:20

YANBU because you have reminded me of this poor woman

Icelollycraving · 11/12/2012 00:23

I have never learnt & I don't care,yabvvu!! :o

CaHoHoHootz · 11/12/2012 00:36

pointless link

Moominsarescary · 11/12/2012 01:00

My strike throughs always failed.

TheElfOnThePanopticon · 11/12/2012 07:20

I can't post links on my phone - there is no box to check (or info about how to post links) and my keyboard doesn't have aware brackets. Easy on a pc, but I have no idea how to post its from a phone.

InMySpareTime · 11/12/2012 07:44

It took me ages to post links, as I lurked for years use the app, which doesn't have helpful hints of how to post links. There was a thread long ago called "plurkers" where people could try to use MN posting features without being mocked for any failures. I learned a lot there.

zombiesheep · 11/12/2012 07:46

And when MNers strike through every single word - you only have to put the two "-" at the front of the sentence and after the sentence. You don't have to individually put two "-" before and after every single word.
Not like this
But like this

weevilswobble · 11/12/2012 08:06

Is it really that important that some poor bugger (like me) cant do some fancy computer stuff?
Isnt it more important that what they write is of some use to someone, wise, thoughtful, kind and contributes to humanity in a positive way?

I dont know how to boldify, link or such. Maybe because i MN in bed on my iphone.

Sorry.
