Why are:

1. Certain items of clothing = "mumsy" eg bootcuts, tunics, some boots but not others (forget which)
   

1. Short wide jumpers are inherently better than others
   

1. Anyone over a size 12 = fat
   

1. Fat = mumsy
   

1. That thinking the above makes you a cleverer and more knowing alnd all-round better person with a slight pitying disdain for those that don't agree.
   

Lastly I would like a definition of "Mumsy" and why it is an insult.

I agree! I'm not all that happy with my shape but I have just bought a purple dress (which is utterly shapeless btw), and the colour of it and the softness just make me happy. Which is better than wearing something that doesn't even do that, IMO.

Laptop go to TKMaxx and just try on loads and loads of different stuff, look in the men's section too for nice soft jumpers. Don't look at prices. Don't just try on one thing on it's own, try it with different things. See what you like, then if it costs too much buy the bits you can afford and look in charity shops for others. Try men's jeans too. Look in kids section and at kids shoes, boots.

I think the tunic thing is more a reaction to shops like white stuff having acres if the things in questionable prints as charging insecure women a fortune for scrappy fabrics and cuts. In dont really think about it much when I am out and about, we are not harridans pointing and staring in the streets. The size question was brought up by people wanting to know what to wear if they are a size twenty two. The op didn't have a clue I suggest women work it out for themselves.

I'm probably dressed in everything S&B class as "mumsy" seven days a week.

I'm 29, 5'11", massive boobs, stomach and hips, 36" legs, on crutches 90% of the time. I look like a baby giraffe that's swallowed a baby hippo. I really dislike the bitchiness of fashion but I like the idea of not looking as randomly put together as I am. I just haven't a clue what would suit me.

I tend to stick to leggings/tunics/dresses/DM boots (how I adore my DM boots) because I like them. Yes, I like the idea of being more elegant/sorted but I have neither the patience, the energy to traipse round shops (my idea of hell) nor the money to change my entire wardrobe every few months.

Ok, to be honest it felt quite like a dig, as did the whole of your post.

If you've not read the thread, maybe that'd be the place to start, as people have explained why they felt a bit upset and given the examples you're asking for.

Maybe people do overreact, but I think it's not particularly awful to discuss things. Some S&B regs (or I assume they are) have explained stuff in their usual pretty calm way, FWIW.

If you want to talk about FWR don't let me put you off starting a new thread, but this feels awfully like trying to start a thread-about-threads under the radar, which is a bit cheeky, no?

Mumsy to me is comfy looking clothes, fleeces, bootleg jeans, waterproof jacket, tunics, white blouses with colourful beads, not much makeup, might be plump, those bags with the little dog hanging off it, a line cord skirts, fly boots, walking gear for everyday.

That sort of stuff.

Asking a question when you admit you couldn't be bothered to read a thread is arrogant.

I'm interested valium reckons it's not S&B regs. Not a surprise I guess - it doesn't sound like them at all!

S&B MNers found me my wedding dress, helped me work out how to dye my hair, and are unfailingly sweet and kind even when I say stuff about using almond oil instead of fancy cream on my hands, or when they know I witter on elsewhere about not shaving my legs.

I think they are lovely.
