To leave baby sleeping outside in -3C ?

he's in a few layers of normal clothes. A cost suit which I think has down in it. A fleece buggy cosytoes. And I just went out and put extra blanket on.

He seems to sleep better outdoors. But it is starting to get really cold. It's very frosty this morning.
I could take him into house, but he's likely to be woken by his big brother. And he's likely to get hot with so many layers on.

You know your baby best hun

FernandoIsFaster · 30/11/2012 09:08

Would you like to sleep outside at the moment? I bloody wouldn't.

safflower · 30/11/2012 09:09

yabu

His little face will be freezing if the rest of him is warm.

Anothercuppatea · 30/11/2012 09:10

But then if we had half hour walk to school to drop kids off, he'd be in buggy then?
I am thinking about taking him in though. I don't want to be a negligent mother!

Anothercuppatea · 30/11/2012 09:15

He will be fine with lots of layers and blankets, as long as it's not windy or pouring with rain. Maybe put the rain cover up?

CoolaSchmoola · 30/11/2012 09:16

He'll be absolutely fine all wrapped up.

vikinglights · 30/11/2012 09:16

If he is properly wrapped up, then no problem. I'm in norway and the guidelines are you're OK if they are properly wrapped up down to -10. Mind you my experience is that the pushchairs people use in the UK are more 'open' than the standard type here so maybe a cold face is more of a possibility, I don't know.

fourbears · 30/11/2012 09:16

I'd bring him in and take the layers off him so he doesn't overheat. It's far too cold to leave him outside now. On a walk you'd be monitoring how he was doing and if he was comfortable. That's harder to do if he's outside on his own. I think when it's this cold you'll just have to take your chance with the big brother waking him. Maybe feed big brother chocolate or similar and put the telly on and hope he'll be quiet!

Mono1 · 30/11/2012 09:17

Leave him. If he's wrapped up toasty and he's somewhere safe no harm will come to him. No one would bat an eyelid if you we're pushing him in the buggy like that.

Anothercuppatea · 30/11/2012 09:17

The raincover is on. It's not windy.
There must be babies up and down the country who sleep in the buggy while older dc are dropped off at school/playgroup etc. It just feels different when buggy is stationary somehow!

Don't see the problem myself. Surely its no different to taking him out to the shops or the school run?

juule · 30/11/2012 09:19

I'd leave him, too. If he's all wrapped up then he will be fine. The fresh air will do him good :)

SugaricePlumFairy · 30/11/2012 09:20

Well I'd leave him outside if he's well wrapped up.

Mine are now teenagers and I never drove so we walked everywhere in all weather even freezing cold weather.

MrsHoarder · 30/11/2012 09:21

How often are you checking in him? The difference from when the buggy is moving is one of parental closeness and necessity.

NotQuintAtAllOhNo · 30/11/2012 09:24

I would have a small pram duvet, and fur lining for this purpose, in these cold temperatures. A duvet, and sheepskin is regulating temperatures better than lots of layers of blanket, due to trapped air.

Fakebook · 30/11/2012 09:27

At -3?C he'll develop nose icicles.

Anothercuppatea · 30/11/2012 09:27

He's at my kitchen window, so I can see him. I can also pop out and check him. But without waking him I'm not sure how to know he's ok.

OP posts:
IwishIwasmoreorganised · 30/11/2012 09:29

I would imagine that he'll wake if he's not ok.

Anothercuppatea · 30/11/2012 09:32

Thanks. I might invest in a sheepskin liner for this winter.

Sirzy · 30/11/2012 09:32

I wouldn't leave a baby outside in this weather. If you have to go out that's different and you are with them to check them make sure they are warm enough etc. bring him inside

EasilyBored · 30/11/2012 09:35

At 8 months old, he will let you know if he is uncomfortable.

NotQuintAtAllOhNo · 30/11/2012 09:39

Dont be scared of nose icicles.

It's up to you, but you sound worried. Is it worth it?
