Well she fits in very well with the DM ethos.

Disgusting person

I lived and then worked in Leicester for a while.
It does have some areas ( one I lived in) which are predominantly single
ethnic groups - eg all white people, all Asian people,
Cities tend to be like that with migration as friends and families move into
the same streets or group of streets to be together. These areas
often have affordable housing for people changing currency too.
You get ghetto's or rough areas in every city - and believe you me I've seen rough " white" areas too where I wouldn't walk alone at night.
You also get areas populated by single ethnic groups which are not ghettos, not rough - as the one I lived in was like any other suburb - safe and full of normal families.
I didn't see the picture Clarissa is painting as for me Leicester had more of a Hindu community. It just sounds like you over reacted in a horsey, posh sort of way. Her generalising sounds a bit ignorant and rascist to me.
I loved Leicester btw - it's a fun city with a fab nightlife and yes - there are amazing Indian restaurants!!

'On a similar note, she stinks too. She uses the same butcher as me bye by god she's rank.'

Why do you find it necessary to be so vile about CDW's personal hygiene MrsKeithRichards? It wasn't necessary. Do you know her personally? Do you have any idea at all as to why she might not be looking after herself as diligently as she might otherwise do? If not, I would stay away from making nasty personal comments about her. How awful that people in her own community are willing to snipe behind her back like this on a public forum.

Usual is normally the voice of sanity and common sense on many threads, I am glad she is here as someone born and raised in Leicester to refute what has been said by cDW.

I am interested in what areas of London laduree states are 'no go areas'.

And also how bloody ridiculous that someone can judge from a glance that a stranger is a fundamentalist muslim who is judging her for not being covered.

Well said. This thread is making me feel homesick (and hopefully I might get out to the market one day this week as I'm going home Smile). It makes me feel quite insulted since this is part of the culture I grew up in and I love it - I do think Leicester does multiculturalism very well.

I like the east midlands cities in general - Leicester, Nottingham and Derby are all very nice and friendly cities in my experience.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 18/11/2012 10:25

I like 'pound a bowl'! I just miss it - we've got an indoor market here that's all very decorous, lots of standing in neat queues and talking about organic meat. Nice, but not the same.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 18/11/2012 10:26

I can take the piss out of Nottingham and Derby TBH. Grin

It's like anything else - if I'm saying it, I'll be rude, if someone else comes round saying rude things - I'm up in arms!

Yes to the local insults.

I can slag off Devon to my heart's content, but if anyone else grockles starts...

Pound for a bowl of what?

Oh, I was thinking sweets, like a great big massive cheap pick n mix.

If that had been true I would probably move to Leicester.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 18/11/2012 10:38

You are not helping the homesickness usual!

mother - whatever. They just bowl it all up so it's easier to pop in a bag quickly, no need to weigh out. Do they not do that where you are? I thought it was pretty standard, I'm just hearing a nice accent in my head calling it out.

I would really like to go now and buy some of those huge bunches of thyme from the stall with all the Afro-Carribean stuff, and some of those weird bumpy cucumbers for DH, and probably at this time of year pomegranates reasonably cheap, and lots of russett apples.

My smug get of a mother was cooking pheasant from the game market last weekend, it's bloody £6 quid in sainsbury's!

MotherfuckingMorrisMan · 18/11/2012 10:38

Yes, I like slagging off my hometown.

But then when I see it mentioned on here sometimes as the worst place to go on holiday, I feel very defensive and sad for the crap old place. [Grin]

MotherfuckingMorrisMan · 18/11/2012 10:40

No, no bowls.

Someone just puts your stuff in a bag.

flow4 · 18/11/2012 10:46

"CDWs claims are just as damaging as the EDLs racist bile."

Yes.

To those saying that her remarks are 'less racist' or 'not so bad', the point is that she has influence and a much wider audience, so her opinions reach many more people. And because she is clever (and manipulative), she is able to make sure there is just enough truth in what she says to resonate with many.

Those who care about truth and tolerance will dismiss what she says. Those who are fearful and angry and looking for someone to scapegoat will like what they read. :(

lots of people think that loads of London is laid to waste with all these no go areas.

I had a mini row with someone at work who thought that. I asked her to name one of these areas which she had personal experience of, and like laduree upthread couldn't. Probably because she had spent her whole life living in Devizes. But she genuinely believed it to be true, which shows how pernicious this kind of 'mild' racism is.

FromEsme · 18/11/2012 11:18

I know lots of people who won't go to east London because "it's not safe".

I mean, the whole of east London. Where you're probably most in danger of being charged £3.50 for a watery latte or accidentally getting a stupid shaved-bit-long-bit haircut.

A woman I worked with refused to go to Leyton in broad daylight because "it's full of gangs".

I do wonder how these people think that other people live there.

Leyton? Blimey.

These edl tossers have got a horrible agenda and twist everything to fit with that, so an educated seemingly well regarded woman like cdw is an utter gift to them.
