7 degrees and no hat or coat on babes in arms

Why do people do this? A woman just walked past me outside of Tesco with a baby in her arms. Thin sleepsuit - that's it. AIBU to think she should be keeping the poor little love all nice and snuggly?

Come on, cute novelty hat and no beard :)

MrsHoarder · 16/11/2012 13:43

I sometimes do this with ds(usually at service stations). Its advised to not put coats on babies in car seats and we would spend longer stood around in the cold if I put a coat on him rather than just carrying him in his sleepsuit. I usually tuck him into my Cardie though.

DameMargotFountain · 16/11/2012 13:45

GML that is adorable a shame for any child who's bought that adds to DGS's christmas basket

Fairylea · 16/11/2012 14:03

I've just been into the city with ds 5 months and no hat. Well he did have a hat but groaned most profusely and whinged when it was on so I ended up taking it off. He can't wear mittens as he is teething and would suck them non stop (hands constantly in his mouth).

I probably looked like a terrible mother !!

GwendolineMaryLacey · 16/11/2012 14:12

:o I've told dd1 (4.10y) that if dd2 won't wear it then she has to. If she won't then I'll wear it myself!

Stinkyminkymoo · 16/11/2012 14:19

I mean trend as in parents carrying a baby (normally pretty small) whilst pushing the babies pram. Tell me that's not a bit weird?

MotherfuckingMorrisMan · 16/11/2012 14:27

lol at you modern bastards with your new-fangled trend of carrying your baby. Shock

Kalisi · 16/11/2012 14:30

stinky You can almost guaruntee that 5 minutes before you came across that scene, the baby in question was kicking off royally in the pram. I remember those days well. And the looks Hmm

Fairylea · 16/11/2012 14:31

I don't think it's a trend. Sometimes babies just wake up crying and won't be settled unless you carry them.

I've walked back from Tesco with my shopping in the pram and me carrying ds before as every time I tried to put him back he had a melt down !

Kalisi · 16/11/2012 14:32

Urgh! My spelling is shocking Blush

RawShark · 16/11/2012 14:36

YABU unless she was all wrapped up and not him.

And why was someone complaining about a baby with no socks when it had a blanket? Cold feet is hardly health threatening or childe abuse.

I can;t stand people standing around sayin oh your DS must be freezing when he is clearly perfectly fine, just because they think you should smother babies under 5 million layers of clothing with a blanket on top.

DS is too hot all the time like me - I would go out without a coat today, (but I would dress him the same as me i.e. if I wear a coat he does too) and I used to take his socks off when he was little if I was worried he was too hot and couldn't get another layer off.

PeazlyPops · 16/11/2012 14:43

It's not that I intend to carry the baby but take the pram as I enjoy pushing it, it's that sometimes DS wants picking up.

JenaiMathis · 16/11/2012 14:46

You see (well you used to, I don't pay much attention these days) far more over-dressed babies than under-dressed ones.

Arf at the new baby-carrying craze Grin

pigletmania · 16/11/2012 14:47

I was in the doctors this week there was a baby being held by its mum with nothing on but it's nappy. Her taxi came and she carried him outside in the cold like tat. My baby has a thck trespass coat, snow trousers, and gloves

akaemmafrost · 16/11/2012 14:49

If I'm cold my kids get a jumper put on them.

If I'm hot they have a layer removed.

Isn't that how it should work? Wink

DameMargotFountain · 16/11/2012 14:49

wtf is your baby going to wear when it's cold, piglet?

pigletmania · 16/11/2012 14:52

It's been freezing dame, don't you out on a coat and gloves when it's cold Hmm. Fr the record we do lots of walking I want tomensure ds is properly wrapped up when in the buggy

Nooneelseisallowedafergus · 16/11/2012 14:53

A bit off subject, but I'm so glad you didn't see me and my 2 boys in waitrose the other day.

At checkout, 7 month old was screaming and 2 and a half year old had given himself an erection and his willy was poking over the top of his trousers.

The check out lady said 'at least it's not your husband dear'.

See, bad mothers everywhere, even not safe in waitrose fgs.

pigletmania · 16/11/2012 14:55

Oh my noone Blush

DameMargotFountain · 16/11/2012 14:56

it's been 'seasonal' not really freezing, and for the record, i hardly ever wear gloves or a hat, i get too hot Grin

DameMargotFountain · 16/11/2012 14:58

arf @ 'at least it's not your husband' Grin

that's made me properly lol!

Startail · 16/11/2012 14:58

YABU
DH wears sandals in winter and his offspring screamed if you put her in a snow suit and never wore vests despite being born in January.

I'm sure people thought I was a bad mother when she was wearing not a lot and I had a fleece and gloves on. I'm always freezing.

Even now at 11 and 14 the DDs wear summer clothes round the house and make me feel coldEnvy

pigletmania · 16/11/2012 14:59

Oh ok, I don't want him to get I'll as he is sitting down

pigletmania · 16/11/2012 15:01

Mabey I I'll ditch te snow trousers until it is really cold. I only wrap him up if we are going on long walks not in shops

PuffPants · 16/11/2012 15:02

I get far more upset seeing children overly-bundled in layers with scarves, hats, mittens etc just because the sun's gone in.

I live in an area of London with lots of Eastern European families. I'm not being racialstic or whatever but they do seem rather afraid of the cold!
