as with most schools there is always a problem with lazy parents parking on the zig zag yellow lines outside of the school rather than them finding a suitable and legal spot to park in and blinking walk. our school is no different. very very rarely they'll have a PCSO out side to stop people, but now they have junior PCSOs year 5 and 6 to go out once a week to stop people parking!
AIBU to think that a letter should be sent out, with a list of the cars license plate numbers caught parking on the zig zag lines in a sort of name and shame way? maybe something like this ........

Dear Parents, the following vehicles have been reported to us for parking on the zig zag lines, may i remind parents that the lines are there for the childrens safety etc etc then a list of the number.

I know it seems a bit over-reacting, but isnt it better to do something like that, rather than sending children out when they should be learning all because some lazy idiots wont find a legal spot to park in?!

Sending children out is wrong and could cause all manner of problems and fall outs.

I like the idea of listing the reg plates in the school newsletter.

The lollypop lady takes down the registration numbers at our school - don't know what happens then as my dc walk.

I remember seeing one very red faced mum sat in her car on the zig zags while being photographed from all angles by a parking enforcer. It drew a very slow moving and sniggering crowd of rubber neckers. :o

i used to stand at the zig zags when i was ata shouting telling parents not to park there, they would still ignore me, they really dont care

They actually do this at my son's school. It works for a while and then the same drivers still creep back to illegal or inconsiderate parking.

we walk to school to, i usually walk the back way but if im going to my mums afterwards then we walk the front way, and it really really annoys me when these lazy gits are parked on the lines! arghhhh sorry for the rant, i just wondered whether i was over-reacting!

Oooh this reminds me of when my eldest was in primary school and when i went mental at a bloke who KEPT ON PARKING ON THE ZIG ZAGS WHERE THE CHILDREN NEED TO CROSS. I had held in my anger at him for too long and when i went over for a quiet word he was all "What business is it of yours" and i lost the plot!

Am happy to report that many parents came over tolend me their support and he stopped parking there from then on.

Anyway- YANBU Name and shame. Seriously the zig zags are there to provide a safe crossing point.

Also not really related but there are some hardcore mums at my kids school. There was a dad who used to take his kid to school while walking the dog. He would tie it up at the gate and leave it for around 15 minutes or so. One morning during golden assembly a woman nonchalantly sauntered over to him and wordlessly handed him a ziploc bag with a lone dog turd inside :o I never saw the dog again.

another thing is they sent a letter asking parents not to park in the school car park as it is for staff and for the childrens safety, but people still do it. why dont the school close one half of the gates so people can walk in easily but not drive in and park? the could have the care taker stood by the gates incase of emergency if the gate needed to be open?

Absolutely crying here at the handing over of the turd!!

It's a wonder he wasn't called up to have it presented to him like a pupil of the week award!

At our school( wich is down a narrow two way road that only one car can go down at one time)waits until the parent and kid are out of the cars them bellow loudly
" tommy you and your mummy need to get back in the car and park properly before you can come into the school, you don't want to be responsible for an injury do you?"

One lady refused to repark and the teacher refused to let her child on school property until she did

our schools not posh enough for the electronic gates lol but they have more than enough teaching assistants etc that im sure could stand there for 10 15 mins id do it, if only they'd listen tho :)

Ages ago one of the mums at playgroup spoke about it but hinted that it was an urban legend. I had to butt in to her conversation to confirm it was true. I even offered to point out the bloke it happened to! It was the best day...

It's awful that it needs someone to stand policing the zig zags.

With the car park thing - i'd rather see parents use a school park than park all over the roads and pavements and ACROSS PEOPLES BLOODY DRIVES.

id have loved to see that blokes face with the dogs turd lol nothing exciting like that would ever happen in our school

Our school have cones on the zig zag lines, is that a possibility at your school OP? It shouldn't be necasssery, but it is. We also have a drop off system which is manned by parents. The school is the only building on the road though, so it doesn't impact any other businesses or residents.

In terms of your idea working for a while, if the parents named go back to their old habits the school could have an "and they're doing it again " attitude in the next newsletter.

I genuinely would love to see this happen. I absolutely love taking people by surprise. That would do it. Also I love Nessa. :o
