AIBU?

I think my 'name and shame' approach is better....

as with most schools there is always a problem with lazy parents parking on the zig zag yellow lines outside of the school rather than them finding a suitable and legal spot to park in and blinking walk. our school is no different. very very rarely they'll have a PCSO out side to stop people, but now they have junior PCSOs year 5 and 6 to go out once a week to stop people parking!
AIBU to think that a letter should be sent out, with a list of the cars license plate numbers caught parking on the zig zag lines in a sort of name and shame way? maybe something like this ........

Dear Parents, the following vehicles have been reported to us for parking on the zig zag lines, may i remind parents that the lines are there for the childrens safety etc etc then a list of the number.

I know it seems a bit over-reacting, but isnt it better to do something like that, rather than sending children out when they should be learning all because some lazy idiots wont find a legal spot to park in?!

ok sorry for the rant, its just one of those things that annoys me

I always thought you could get points on your license for parking on zig-zags.

My friend parked on them on a Sunday evening, planning to move her car before 8am as the ones across from her have a sign saying only Mon-Fri. She slept in and when she opened her curtains her car had been towed. She was £80 to release her vehicle plus a fine (this was nearly 20 years ago).

yes thats a good idea, i shall def suggest cones. mind you knowing some of the parents they'd move the cones, park there and then put the cones in the middle of the road to give them room to open their doors fully lol

I have started going in 20 minutes before school ends now - I do park badly otherwise - I am struggling to walk to point dh wants me to ask school to let me park in staff carpark as I am barely able to manage walk round school to get him (heavily pregnant).

I don't think the people who park there are bothered about having their numberplate in the newsletter. They just think they're so important that rules don't apply to them.
I remember the time I turned up early (on the way back) for a school even. There was one car already there-parked on the zig-zags. They could have parked just as close to the entrance gate, just the other side and been legal. Confused

Put on a florescent jacket, and go round and take photos.
You'll at least worry them. Grin

Grin id shake them up a bit there!! just gets on my nerves! on the rare occasion that the PCSO is there, why cant she hide around the corner and then when the parents get out to collect the little ones issue an on the stop fine!? that would be better than stood there in clear view for one day every couple of months. i mean when she's in full view they dont park, but the next day when she's gone it starts all over again!

At our school we have the problem of parents parking with 2 wheels on the pavements and driving into pupils, or driving back off the pavement narrowly missing people's feet. I have bashed a car with my son's scooter before now, to stop it reversing into us. So I would never agree to sending Yr 5s & 6s out on patrol. The problem is that no matter what you do, there will always be parents who still don't think it applies to them. So name & shame is probably the only way!

One of my favourite mornings was when a parent dropping right across the gate (not a dropping place by any stretch of the imagination), then reversed at speed. I banged the back of his car as hard as I could with my closed brolly. He was that close to us imagine me holding my hands 6 inches apart . I went over to the driver window to shout at him about the dangers of reversing at speed outside a school and I may have questioned his parentage . His window was open but he didn't stop staring straight ahead. He shat himself.
