to want *MORE* Playmobil for my DD

We have a housefull of playmobil but it all belongs to her older brother. While he will share, she would like her own, and she would also like something a bit more "girly" than the endless castles, roman, pirate, egyptian, police, firestation ect that we already have. It's not that she doesn't enjoy playing witgh it but she REALLY, REALLY wants the city house. My DH is adamant that we DON'T need ANYMORE playmobil and I do sympathise with him, but I really want her to have this house for Christmas, AIBU?

It is a well known fact that you can NEVER have too much Playmobil. I LOVE their advent calendars - quite cheaply priced and you build up an advent scene. Start with the girlie one of those (mother with a pram and baby, little birds pecking for food round an old fashioned bench, an angel looking on etc)

Of course you don't need any more playmobil. But that shouldn't stop you buying it!

You can probably compromise by getting her a small take-along house and a few extra girly figures eg. fairies, princesses.

Playmobil is good quality and will last well for grandchildren. You can sell it easily on e-bay.

If she plays with it then its worth it. There's no point in a variety of toys for the sake of it if they ignore half of it.

We can never have too much Lego in our house, I have to coordinate what relative buys what set.

Speaking as someone who is drowning under a sea of playmobil and MIL planning on getting ds the pyramid for xmas I can sympathise with the op's dh!!

I was naughty the other week, I could have phoned mil to let her know toys r us were selling the pyramid for half price, but i didn't want to encourage her, and am hoping the full price will put her off she was at a funeral so it didn't seem appropriate

The take a long house is brilliant. My dad got it for ds2 last year and ds2 absolutely loves it. What I love is that everything packs away inside and if you find any rogue bits once you've put it away they can go in the chimney to save you having to open the house back up.

We love Playmobil here too and have loads. It also has a very good resale value. Get your DD the house, it must be a bit disheartening for her to only be allowed to borrow her brothers playmobile rather than have her very own.

Actually, DD has the take along farm and it has been a really good present - can easily be taken on holiday too.

YANBU. You can never have too much . They had some good sets in Home Bargains this morning. Think there was something housey...didn't really look though - we have loads of girly stuff but not enough boy stuff so was concentrating on the pirates!

DS has got into Playmobil this year with encouragement from me. He is getting loads for Christmas because there are various things that he wants, although he does want ALL of it.

I am putting off getting DD a dollshouse house next year because I she would rather have the grand mansion. I also like the look of the holiday home. DS has asked for it but in between his police station, fire vehicles, camper and ferry I know he won't actually play with a house. Hopefully DD will want this too. She is only 21 months but she is showing signs of interest and often tries to play with DS's, although she isn't allowed.

The more Playmobil, and varieties, the better!

Please can anyone tell me if the Playmobil advent calenders are reusable each year? (I presume they are but have only seen them on Amazon)

yes, we have reused ours for about 10 years - really my DC are MUCH too old for them now but they love them - I just bought a hanging material Christmas embroidery with pockets for each day of December and put the pieces into those. We kept the background scene safely too.

DD2 is almost 12, there is still a bit of playmobil for her stocking.

She has played with it more than anything else.
Apart from SIMs on her lap top, which is bossing virtual people about rather than plastic people.
Tell your DH that DD says he must allow, prams, pushchairs, ambulance and camper van even if you are pushed for room for a house.

The old advent calendars were easier to reuse as you got lots of individual boxes, we are still using ours, not so sure about the new ones as you open a window like the chocolate advent calendars, but bigger!

And you can NEVER EVER have too much Playmobil.

I'll add my recommendation for the take-along house. Both DD and DS play with it a lot. It has acquired a few resident pirates along the way too . Posting things down the chimney is a whole game unto itself. It's sturdy, has lots of pieces, isn't too big and packs away beautifully.

The only drawbacks I can think of are the lack of decent kitchen furniture - it only has a old-fashioned chimney stove, no cooker, fridge etc. I'm on the look out for other playmobil kitchen stuff to add to it. Plus it would have been nice to have opening windows/doors - though that is probably difficult with the take-along aspect. The small pieces are REALLY small too (as with lots of playmobil).

Best of all we got it brand new for half-price in ToysRus, when it was selling for at least £10 more on ebay for second hand/bits missing. It just makes me appreciate it all the more.

DS is getting the camper van for this Xmas.

I LOVE the idea of nicking DH's pants . We've already got the camper and the pool, the hospital and the school as well as the others things i've listed, but they don't belong to her.
Talking about the playmobil advent calendars has made me think about buying the nativity scene which I want anyway and putting the bits into the pockets of our felt ones instead of having chocolate rubbish this year!! What a great idea.
